As you all know (or haven't), Vicki Zhao Wei, a mainland chinese actress/singer, will be portraying Mulan. The movie is going to be based on the chinese story legend and not the disney Mulan.

this is really great news...i think zhao wei is going to make a great Mulan, she's pretty, talented, acts well, and chen kun is in this movie also, so more eye candy, anyone knows when this is gonna be released in theaters?

i got that rush of feelings, sorta made me wanna fight as well, made my blood and adrenaline rush.

i think zhao wei would portray mulan very nicely.
although i havnt seen her acting in big movies (except that princess show), i think the clip already showed the feelings that she put into the character.

That random Caucasian guy in the movie seems incredibly random too, and can Jaycee Chan even act? He's probably only in this because he's got connections since his father is huge and all, but yeah, I doubt his acting skills.

Can't wait to see this movie though. Zhao Wei's masculine-ish voice makes me convinced that she'll do a convincing job as Mulan.

i have confidence that zhao wei could pull it off. she did a pretty convincing job in red cliff.

dude, i'm sorry but when that guy sings, i get totally creeped out--he hits notes higher than most women can hit. and this is a totally shallow observation, but i saw this one clip of him singing, and he kinda looks like a douche.

but yeah, this is looking good. zhao wei has come a long way since princess huan zhu.

^The only thing they share is the source story. The Disney one was aimed towards kids, and the live action one...well, isn't.

The live action one is probably more bloody and aimed at adults...I don't think it's meant to be humorous in any way like the Disney one. Zhao Wei's voice sounded so forced, but I guess she has to pretend to be a man...so I that's probably why she was using that tone.

When I read the topic title, my mind went "noooo way..." and thought it'd probably be a Chinese ghost movie or something! I am beyond speechless! MULAN IN LIVE ACTION?! It does look intriguing! I would totally go to theaters to watch this.

Oh and I'm also glad Ziyi Zhang isn't playing Mulan, ugh. Vicki Zhao Wei FTW!<3

IDK, but I bet they will, since it's Mulan.

IF Jaycee Chan is who I think he is (the name change is confusing the crap out of me) then we don't have to worry because he CAN act.

It would be interesting if they did release in the states, it would give Disney reason enough to re-release the cartoon alongside it. Hopefully there will be a better trailer out in the coming months. Who is Vitas supposed to be playing in the movie?

I wish people wouldn't get their hopes up for this movie just because it's Vicky Zhao Wei.

An actress can only do so much. The quality of the movie really resides on the director.

And in case the director is Jingle Ma. Not the best director in the world, and he did a horrid job with Butterfly Lovers. I was pissed when I learned he would be the one directing the live-adaptation of Mulan.

There is a strong likelyhood this movie will bomb. Not to be a downer, but there are upcoming Chinese movies with way more potential out there.


There isn't one person in the cast I don't like though. Vicky, Chen Kun, Jaycee Chan, Hu Jun, Xu Jiao and Guo Jiaming all can act. I just think the director will screw it up big time.

Yeah, I was kinda worried about the director thingy too. When I saw Butterfly Lovers, I felt the movie went by rather quickly and that the movie skipped a lot of parts from the original story/movie. I just hope Mulan isn't gonna do the same.
