Let just make this quick.

Only got permit.
Ran red light on a right turn.
Got pulled over.
There was no car insurance proof in car.
Car got impounded. FCK!!!!!!!

Questions
How does ticket usually cost for the red light?
Will I have to pay for no proof of insurance?
Could I show proof of insurance when I appear in court and would that be dropped?
They're taking away my permit(I know) but approx. how long?
Do I have to pay a fee to since I don't have license?
How much does it cost to get car back?
Will insurance raise?
Will points be added?

I honestly didn't think it'd hit me this early,
and I know, I'm screwed.

You'll get a point

As for impound, every day it's in the pound, the more you'll pay. Best to get it out as soon as possible

missie_ko_ko
^ the cop dude said that i could go get it on monday.
Do you know how much it is each day?
2-300?

Questions
How does ticket usually cost for the red light?
-You will have to check your city for that.

Will I have to pay for no proof of insurance?
-Depends on the city.

Could I show proof of insurance when I appear in court and would that be dropped?
-Possible but I'd say no.

They're taking away my permit(I know) but approx. how long?
-They probably won't take it any longer than a year. But that's also depending on your city.

Do I have to pay a fee to since I don't have license?
-Fee for what? Obtaining a license, not having a license?

How much does it cost to get car back?
-There will be the original impound bill, say $100. For every day the car is still in impounded costs (for example) $15 a day for storage, including the first day. So if you left the car there for 10 days, it'd be $250.

Get it out ASAP or else you'd be looking at very expensive bill. You will most likely have to have the following, title to the car, proof of insurance, and ID. The person on the title must be present and present his/her ID when releasing the car.

Make sure you do it before their office closes, be very nice to the people who are releasing your car, if you decide to yell at them, they can add a fee for dealing with you.

Actual procedures, proving ownership, and cost may vary.

Wlll insurance raise?
-No.

Will points be added?
-Most likely not.

That's something you must find out from the company that impounded your car.

Why wouldn't they add a point since the person ran a red light?

As for insurance, if the OP didn't have insurance, and they were trying to get insured, they could see the point on their record (which would mean a much higher rate since driver is new) unless it was cleared through traffic school or dismissed by a judge.

I don't know if these rules apply to permit drivers as well, but I imagine that they should.

To the OP, impound rates vary by the company plus the city. They also charge a towing fee. Here's an example of a Los Angeles impound lot rates

Towing $107.50

Storage per day *
Vehicles $33.00
Trucks, Boats & Trailers Over 20 Feet $47.00
Motorcycles $10.00

City of Los Angeles Vehicle release fee **
$100.00

So as an example, you would be looking at $240.50 just for 1 day. Add $33 for every day it sits in the lot.

And also, from what I read, if you try to get your car out on the weekend, they may charge u an extra fee, just because.

my guess is first ticket so she'd be eligible for traffic school.

I'm gonna assume she got her car towed because she was alone with only a permit + a moving violation?

Am i Right? OP

Most states, by law, require each car to have insurance. Failure to comply will result in an impound.

Depending on the State traffic school can dismiss the ticket and help lessen the time taken to reduce points. But you have to go to court to see if youre eligible for traffic school. ( which is like 20-30 dollars)

-about 250~ new york
-not sure
-IF u were insured, and its legitimate, YES u can get the charge dropped. ONLY if u have proof.
-6mo-1year could be less i doubt more than a year
-why would u pay a fee for no insurance?
-about 160+
-if the car was under your name yes(if u get points), under your parents(no)
-yes but u can plead to a lesser charge get 0 points hopefully and no points, but pay like 70-100 more

side note, if they towed your car for lack of insurance, im pretty sure u dont have to pay towing costs if u have proof, and it was the police department that towed your car. not 100% positive

I'm quite certain thats not the case. It was not the City's fault the driver lacked proof of insurance. So driver will be held liable for all fee's occured during the process.

By law you are required to have insurance. There's no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Police department don't impound cars, they contract towing companies to do impounds. Unless the police department made a mistake on impounding your car, you will pay to get your car out or you don't get your car. Even if you had insurance and didn't have it on you when you were pulled over, you will still pay to get it out. It's a very expensive lesson to learn that, you should keep your insurance in your car.

I have prior experience with these sort of things.

ah, i was pulled over for seatbelt and handed my expire insurance (i never got around to throwing them out) but he didnt really care. even when i did show him my current insurance policy. I think its all dependent on the cop and if hes gonna ticket u for every single thing.

anothermixedfob is correct in regards to the traffic school online courses. usually you are eligible if you've not asked for prayer for judgetment (AKA PJC) within a 3 year period. Depending on which company you use, the price ranges from $30 to $50. Good luck.

How does ticket usually cost for the red light?
It depends, I'm sure if you googled it for your city, you can find out.

Will I have to pay for no proof of insurance?
I remember when my friends didnt have insurance, they all got fix-it tickets. So you either pay the fine, of not having insurance, or go get insurance, have proof of it, and pay a small fee. But it depends on your ticket.

Could I show proof of insurance when I appear in court and would that be dropped?
Not sure. google is your best friend.

They're taking away my permit(I know) but approx. how long?
For truants, they take away the permit till they're 18, but check DMV.

Do I have to pay a fee to since I don't have license?
Check DMV. But aren't you suppose to drive with a parent or something if you have a permit? O_o

How much does it cost to get car back?
Most impounds cost like $300 a day, so get your car out asap. The longer it sits in there, the more it will cost.

Will insurance raise?
Ask your insurance company. But I dont think it will.

Will points be added?
Maybe......But you can probably go to traffic school so that the point won't be added. There is online traffic school for my city, so try to opt for that so you don't have to waste your time going to a place and sitting there for a few hours.

There's a grace period on expired insurance. Even if it's expired, if you had partially paid towards the next premium, you'd be under a grace period until you pay the amount in full, so you'd technically still be insured despite being expired.
