Hey, so I've been using a Canon Powershot A80, which is sooo old and very bulky. It's like over 6 years old and I want to get a new camera. I bought the Canon powershot SD1100 IS, that has a lot of good reviews, but I wasn't to happy about the picture quality of it in comparison to my old canon.
Anyone of recommendations on a good point and shoot camera. If possible, could you post pictures using that camera?

I don't really care about MP, because that's only important if I'm going to print pictures and get them blown up and stuff.

Ahh! I'll be lurking around here too for I need a new camera as well!

Wow! Really?! You weren't satisfied with the quality from the SD1100?! I really like it!
I think its nice. . but I would recommend another SD or Powershot "A".
My P&S camera is an older SD and still takes beautiful pictures.

I dunno, I found when I took pictures inside, my skintone looked really unnatural and shiny in comparison to when I took it with my other canon. I looked really yellow :S. Since I'm a major selfcammer, that's really important to me smile.gif Maybe I just have to play with settings and stuff.

^You probably need to adjust the white balance. Did you read the manual?... It's just that Canon point and shoots are arguably one of the better brands, so whatever you get next is probably going to be even worse than what you already have.

lol no I didn't read the manual, maybe I should.
Oh another thing...sometimes, actually a lot of times I press the button but it doesn't take a picture, it can take me up to 3-4 times to get it to actually work. Does anyone know why? or what I`m doing wrong? I always hold it down half way to focus, then press it all the way..but still :S

erure is right, regarding the skintone looking a bit too yellow, it has to do with the white balance settings.
My guess is that you may have unknowingly switched WB to a tungsten or indoor/lowlight setting which is causing a yellow hue. Most of the time, the auto white balance (AWB) option will get it right, but there's several WB options depending on what kind of lighting you're in.

As for the other issue, maybe you have the camera to close to whatever you're shooting. Unless you put it in macro mode, there's a minimum distance where the camera cannot focus. It's not just specific to Canon, but all other brands, even including DSLRs. When the camera cannot focus, it refuses to take the shot until the autofocus locks onto something.

These are just suggestions, I'm not exactly sure what may be wrong with your camera, but the SD1100 is a great P&S, from what I've heard. I don't have the exact model, but I do have the SD870IS and a Canon DSLR with a few lenses.

I don't know if you have courage to try this, but they have something called CHDK which basically is a firmware modification for canon cameras. Yours is this one http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SD1100IS I think they have it for your old one too... you can do a lot of neat little thing with it including taking pictures in RAW and after you convert it, you can have all the raw goodness the DSLR people love!

O_o and it also lets you do like time lapse and stuff... made me want to buy a point and shoot for that reason! lol

I don't know if extra processing will give you that quality you are looking for but it might be a neat option for you.
