good man! I'm sure its not much different to 7RC, which is finally a very good OS since the crappyness of Vista sleep.gif
blah.
I'm not a subscriber so it's October 22nd for me. =( BTW, how many times can you install the program (when it comes out)? I have a laptop, netbook, and desktop that I would like Windows 7 on and if I can only use it once then I'm not sure about getting it.
lordbordem
Its once per a cd key.

My Uni doesn't seem to have gotten the memo yet, and they don't seem to have the keys on their MSDNAA portal yet sad.gif

Oh well i guess ill just keep using RC till then

Yeah, it's not different to any significant degree compared to the RC. I'm just excited that this is final release. smile.gif

Thanks for answering my question. Maybe I'll just wait until my school offers it. We're able to order the Vista Upgrade for $12 so hopefully Windows 7 will be as cheap too. smile.gif

If you get Home Premium, it will allow installation on three computers though, right?

Windows 7 is amazing...all the features of Vista w/the memory usage of a good ol' XP. Perfect combo.

Windows 7 is pretty awesome. Its better than vista and almost on par with compatibily with XP stuff. The eye candy is a plus too.
My school have a partner ship with MS so we can get new OS for real cheap. Vista used to sell for 45 i think

I've been working with multiple windows (20-30 avg) open at any given time since forever. Aero Peek is like godsend in terms of finally a worthwhile solution to open window management.
Danni3
currently have windows 7, xp, and ubuntu installed on partitions and i must say, it's like vista finally got past puberty xD
saranghae!
I've just installed it and I have to say it's quite nice. A lot faster than Vista which is always great. C:

i'm waiting for ACM to validate so I can get my 7!

maninwhitecoat
Just found out my university offers both Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate on the MSDNAA. given that i'm registered at 2 unis, score for 4! haha

I just found out my school offers Win 7. But I am so comfortable with my Vista right now.. I don't know if I really want to upgrade or dual boot. I know if I dual boot and its stable I will probably never use vista again.

Anyone know if dual booting Win 7 x64 + Vista x86 will be more difficult to undo if I were to go that path?

Shouldn't be too difficult to undo. You'd essentially just wipe out the partition that you wouldn't use, I'm assuming Vista, and remerge the remaining space back to the main partition (Windows 7).

awdark, how do CSULA students get Win 7?! Since I'll be a student there soon.
awdark
Its from the MSDNAA for computer science students smile.gif if you need more info about that just ask

Windows 7 <3 pretty snazzy ohmy.gif even though i only use it for homework & studying
awdark
Hm, just installed it. It doesn't really feel like "home" to me. I do like the new taskbar but I got so accustomed to my Vista, and all my programs are installed there.

I am amused that the CPU doesn't spike as often so I guess that's good. I am a little irked by the drivers because I went 64bit but I don't know if its an illusion but my laptop seems to run cooler now.
RiderKamen
I would upgrade but I don't like going through the whole hassle like I did this past summer by reinstalling vista.

On top of that, vista has only been out since 06 07? Its a little too soon lol.

You sure? Right Click My Computer and check at the bottom. Doesn't say activation required in X days (usually 30 days).

Where did you download this copy... dry.gif

I am still deciding whether or not I should give my laptop to my brother to take it to the University of Houston because apparently they are selling it or are going to sell it for only 14 bucks

windows 7 has a much better support for laptops than vista. like my laptop runs longer

I did a speedfan comparison... its not super accurate but
Win7
GPU averages 135F
HDD 124
core 113/120

Vista
GPU 136f
HDD 122
Core 111/118

I think its about the same. For most people I think they will notice a bump because I have been undervolting my cpu for a while now and I am just used to the processor running under volted and with RMclock managing the speed and all that. I know my fan doesnt go crazy quite as often with WIn7

But I am still not used to the new taskbar. Sometimes I want to just punch my laptop ><

I just got the Evaluation Copy put on my laptop and I am loving it, so when I get a chance I am gonna give my brother my laptop and get him to put the actual copy on my laptop.

awdark: I love the new task bar it has a more "high tech" feel to it.

Is Windows 7 worth downloading? I have Vista ultimate, i don't wanna go through the hassle of installing a new OS if it's not that different from Vista.

To me, it's night and day. 7 feels refreshing and snappy compared to Vista. I personally would only do 7 if you're willing to do a clean install. If you're going to do an upgrade, I'd prolly wait it off.
steph3n
Cleaned installed it from MSNDAA 32 bit on my Lenovo X200, boot times are amazing
All the drivers for Vista work on it, it's awesome

I never bothered using Vista because it was so bad, so quite a lot of things are new to me in windows 7

So I sent an email to the Program Administrator who oversees the CSULA program of it. He said Comp Science majors are not qualified, only IS (Information Studies?).

WTF, anyways, I went to the Comp Science dept. and wrote my info down on their "Software" form which asks what software you need. Hopefully I get an email with a key from them.

Yeah when you sign up for software you will be given access to the msdn thing so you can just get the keys and download the programs you need. Win7 just happens to be on the list

I'm taking engineering and have been given access to MSDNAA site. I've downloaded the windows 7 professional iso file, do i need to mount it using daemon tools or something and just install it? I want to keep all my old files as well

I love windows 7 I am using it now and it feels great much better than vista.
Its like vista matured and their is less crash and more of a better feel!
I just got down installing windows 7 ultimate build 7600

huh.gif You burn it to a DVD... then install it with the custom option so that you can multi boot.

After using Win7 for a few weeks... I rolleyes.gif can't see why its so special. Ok the taskbar is slightly enhanced, I like how wifi is shown in bars rather than blinking computers, and clicking it reveals wifi points you can connect to. And the task bar is slightly enhanced... But I don't notice any speed or battery benefits.

Wow really? That is a perfect combo, cause I hated the whole Window Vista concept idea. I think that's why I didn't buy new computers because of it dry.gif Since lots of reviews about Windows Vista, about way too much crash and errors, I was so scared to use it!!!! -__- Thank goodness for something different, and like what some people said, ~better than vista~ phew.

I'm taking computer science and access msdnaa from my school's portal, but the prog admin didn't allow windows 7 to be installed, jerk. I checked stonybrook's comp science page to see if they had it available and they do sleep.gif. Lame... there's only like 5 things available to dl for me.
unholydaemon
I recently upgraded to win 7. Not too many changes, a bit faster, that's it.
siliconrex
so far windows 7 is amazing compared to vista. vista would crash any program that made an open/save file box, and 7 doesn't, so that's a great improvement. one little issue i have is that you can't move windows under the taskbar, but other than that, everything works better than before. it's like vista 5.0
whoami
Upgraded my notebook from vista to windows 7 and the new windows version is suprising good. It runs more smoother and better, windows 7 is compared to vista miles ahead.

Actually I was told that as long as your computer was fast enough to handle it vista would run great, my brother is running vista on his xps and he says it runs fine. Vista was a problem for me because my sisters who are not very techy people didn't know how to choose and got me a super slow computer that couldn't handle vista so it sucked big time. I ended up switching it to XP and I am now on windows 7
j00n
It's nice (i hope we can forget about VISTA quickly) but you need a good computer and lots of RAM to run it well.
chiho
just installed it:

overview: looks real nice (side bar a big too thick though)

Issue: really hard for me to get used to it (I've been using XP and Vista since forever and my neck kinda died using 7)

and XP is still faster lol but i must admit it's better than vista~ (can't do a technical comparison since my desktop never used vista but its speed is pretty good on 7 via desktop)

EDIT: it did got me back using IE though surprisingly
oh.. not to mention.. installation waas stupid -.-" (especially those who does a transitition from XP to 7)

but yeah Windows 7 is better than Vista! ^^

Cool, I heard that it is much stable than Windows Vista, because of its advance and more polished version of Vista
