Initial investment for me was around AUD 1k, 40D + 17-70mm lens
Currently have spent over 10k on photography gear in a span of less than 1yr...wtf hahaha
Next purchase...probs gonna be 17-55mm 2.8 IS for the 40D...another 1.2k down the drain...
Photography is such a $$$ sink

same with me..
i have purchased acouple of nikon bodies
some of my nikkor glasses are 2-4k of grand each...

and recently purchased sony a900 with all the cz lenses for landscape and some portrait
soon thinking of upgrading my canon gear with the 50mm f1.0 and the 85mm f1.2
and a new body is would help too

Rich guy here.
How do you find the A900? Worth the upgrade?
I'm going to mug you for your Zeiss telephoto lens and 85mm.

Hello from ocau

Nikon D60 kit: AUD$800
Yum Cha branded tripod: AUD$20
A few SD cards: AUD$50-ish.
Currently I'm saving to invest some money isn't a SB-600 flash which should set me back another AUD$480.

I think my dad wasted around $900 or $1000 for our 10.1mpx canon rebel.
That we take about 5 pictures with per year.
WHAT A WASTE. We should have gotten the super mega sexy red sony cybershot I wanted =____=
WOULD HAVE AT LEAST BEEN PUT IN USE!! *screaming in my head*

plumerias should go wild with the camera and have some fun with it!
That's why sometimes used camera isn't bad. You lower the initial cost so you can do more later. Of course if you get a super deal, my brother's friend got a XSi on clearance for like $330 then by all means get it. I think my total is...
$400 > XT + 50 f1.8
$130 > 18-55is
$230 > 28-135is
~$100 > 2gb + 4gb + 4gb + 4gb + 8gb = 22gb compact flash

Mine was:
Nikon D80 second owner - $550 CAD last summer
Nikkor 50mm F1.4 second owner - $260 CAD during winter
Tokina 12-24mm F4 second owner - $420 USD
I had a Nikkor 18-200mm VR, D40 and its kits lens but I sold them back out for the same price I got them for so it evens out.

spent around $180 for the canon 450d with kit lens.
my mom paid the other $600. xD
then around $100 for a 50mm f/1.8. so yeah, i haven't spent that much yet.
i'm currently saving up for a 430ex II, and after that i'm buying a telephoto and wide-angle.
and that's all i'm ever gonna spend for gear. xD

How much have I spent? It's nowhere near 6k or whatever, but to me it's definitely an arm, a leg, and then some.
Oly E510 w/ 14-42mm lens - $300
Oly 40-150 - $90
Oly 25mm ZD - $250
Oly 35mm ZD - $225
Oly 50mm ZD - $450
OM 50mm 1.8 - $50
OM 50mm 1.4 - $75
Nikon 35mm 1.8G - $225
Total: $1665
What's left of my gear?
Oly e510; 40-150; 25mm
(The OM 50mm 1.8 is on my OM2, but that doesn't count as a DSLR.)
After funneling most of my cash down the toilet, I honestly believe that the best investments in photography are the books to learn basic composition and painting. (Also the time invested to actually learn it.)
