Hi guys I'm interested in buying a Panasonic Lumix camera but can't
decide on which edition to get.
From your opinions in photography, which edition (version) of the Lumix
camera is the best and most affordable. Most favorably a camera that has
good picture quality when zooming in.
The max amount I'm planning to spend is $300 or $350.
Thanks for the help!!
I've been eyeing the Lumix DMC-ZS3. Is it one of the best Lumix cameras out there?

Thanks for asking this question! I want to know which Lumix camera is best too.
I been eyeing the Lumix DMC- ZS1, similar to the ZS3 but it doesnt have HD video. It is kinda chunky though.
Anyone have recommendations for Lumix cameras? It can be the one mentioned or some of the slimmer versions too, like the Lumix DMC - FX or FS series or any other one similar to it. Preferably with a wide angle lens, a good # for optical zoom, and decent low light pictures. Thanks for all the help guys!!

I think LX3 is really good; the lens is really nice 24-60mm f/2.0-2.8.

Thanks erure for the recommendation. I looked up the LX3 and it seems like a pretty good camera. It can also have lots of added on accessories like another lens adapter that makes it a super wide angle lens (18mm)!!! Overall, it is a nice camera, but I don't like the pop-up flash very much. I prefer flash that is on the front like most cameras.
Any more suggestions from anyone? Thanks.

OOo thanks for the suggestion!
Although the pricing is a bit D; LOL.
I'm trying to save money for a netbook as well. I will definitely consider
the LX3 though.

I own the LX3, and I wouldn't recommend it as just a walk-around camera, especially at the prices it's going at these days. It's more like a mini-DSLR, and the pop-up flash and larger size reflect that (it even has a lens cap! annoying at times..). Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with Lumix cameras beyond that, but I don't think you can really go wrong with most of them..

mmm the zs1// zs3 doesn't have a viewfinder. i used to have one, but i became rather annoyed, so i returned it and got
an fz28!
it's kind of big. okay, really big. almost DSLR-sized. but if you're looking to experiment with photography and you want a LOT of zoom, i think this is kind of the perfect camera. i love it dearly.
however, it is not so good with the portability. but there's always a tradeoff.
but man, does this beast take beautiful pictures.

The FZ28 is pretty big!! Looks like it is probably just a tad bit smaller than my DSLR. But with an 18x optical zoom, its pretty good.
I'm looking for something more portable that I can carry in my pocket and be able to take it out and snap pics easily.

I have the TZ5, which is the predecessor to the TZ7 (european ZS3) and I really like it. I got it because it was the smallest 10x optical zoom. The picture quality is great on it and the wide angle lens is really useful. The video recording is good too. It is a bit chunkier than the FS/FX series and it is a bit heavier, but the USP of the TZ is the optic zoom capabilities. you kinda get used to the size but i can't really put it in my pocket comfortably.

I've been searching for a few Lumix cameras and narrowed it down to a few. Since portability is important, I decided to go with either a FS and FX series.
The one I am eyeing now is the Lumix FX37. Anyone have any opinions on it? Or if you used it, any personal experience? Thanks a lot! I want to make sure that I am not blinded by all the good stuff that I've been reading about it and perhaps missed out something important. It is an older camera and not new, but as long as it is good, I'm fine with that.
(I'll be looking around for some more Lumix models . Basic wants : Preferably a wide angle lens, a good # for optical zoom, decent low light pictures, no pop-up flash, portability, and under $350 )

I came upon this article when I was looking at the Lumix cameras. It's a couple months old, but thought I'd share with other Soompi members.
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0906/09061701...rvicenotice.asphttp://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/info/dsc_battery.html (this is the one from the Panasonic site)
It's basically Panasonic came out with a new firmware that can detect their own batteries vs. third party batteries that sometimes people may get as a spare because its usually much cheaper.
I haven't decided which camera to get yet, but I am now between two of them....the Lumix DMC-FX48 (newer than the FX37 I was looking at before and it has a newer Venus processor.) and the Lumix DMC-ZR1. Any comments or input? Thanks.

I have the FZ28 which did a good job to cover all the range! It will fit in your budget. You may get some excellent deal if you're lucky!
