I'm thinking of buying a car, which car is faster?

Audi R8 or GTR?

Do not flame, answer the question.
hayabusa01
The question's vague and open to interpretation. Are you asking for concrete figures or just people's opinion?

What do you mean by faster? Do you mean 0-60 MPH? 0-100? 0-150? 1/8th mile? 1/4 mile? Top speed? Lap time around a track (and what type of track)? Faster to get a girl's attention?

If you're asking about solid data, you're better off reading magazines like Road & Track and comparing results. Though it differs from publication to publication since each publication looks at different things (emphasizing more luxury, performance or gee-whiz tech). I wouldn't trust the results of Top Gear: while the show is entertaining to watch, their testing and reviewing practices make them out to be a bunch of hacks (they're less about actual journalism than they are about sensationalism and showboating).

Me personally, I'd go for the Audi R8. I prefer it's mid-engine layout, lower weight, and I prefer either the V8 or V10 engine as opposed to the GT-R's turbocharged V6. But that's just going off of paper specs... I've never driven either (and I suspect most others in this forum haven't either). But the C6 Z06's raw design specs has more appeal to me.
90th.degree
In terms of the Nurburgring lap times, the R8 is a hell of a lot slower than the GT-R (almost 40 seconds slower), even slower than the Porsche GT-R run when they accused Nissan of Lying about their time, and even then STILL slower than the Cadillac CTS-V, and that's a SEDAN.

I can appreciate the R8 for what it's worth, but the GT-R is quicker, and much cheaper to buy,
hayabusa01
Holy crap, I didn't know the CTS-V was that badass.
JJ no Baka
GTR is definitely cheaper. But looks wise, I say the r8 looks way sexier than the GTR.

That's the advice I can give. I don't know much about the speed of the cars. tongue.gif
z0mghii
I'm looking for: speeds from 0-60, and also lap times around a track.

What kind of tracks?
Just general tracks that are oval shaped.

I know the GTR is cheaper, but i think the r8's looks are worth the extra money.
JASH
wait uh i know the numbers uh cts-v 0-60 in 3.9 lol. I think i see that in the magazines a lot
SHARK
I believe the GT-R is faster than the R8 in 0-60. But also remember the GT-R has to get Turbochargers to kick, whereas the R8 does not.
jakex1
i would take a gt-r over a r8 any day but turn off that traction control and byebye warranty + transmission
boost
usually when people buy these types of cars... they already know how to do research themselves

Ever try google?
It would help a lot more and would provide much more information about both cars. Plus you were very vague on your question.
I'd pick the R8 because it's more of a luxury car compared to the GT-R tho i love them both equally. But the Gtr does have a backseat so it would also be tempting.
mikez
I dont think this guy is for real lol.

GTR is faster in every single way, no matter how you compare it.... unless you want to see how fast you can make shallow girls drop their panties for you, in which R8 will win hands down.

Speaking of which, R8 for me. biggrin.gif
OMGHIyori2U
Which R8? The V8 one or the V10?

The V10 will smoke the GTR in a straight line, and the GTR will smoke the V8 in a straight line

Plus you're comparing a $115-150k car to an $85k car.

and u are comparing straight line races like it really matters. Still, get the R8 atleast u can have fun with it without voiding warranty.

if straightline doesnt matter he can get a GTR and avoid using the launch control and have a better handling car

regardless, chances are hes not gonna track it, probably not buy it (lack of replies + no prior research?), then again... someone who doesnt track it, is only going to show off on roads and in that case, yes straight line is all that matters lol.
kuku
GTR. My friend drives one.

FusionGT2
Obviously performance wise, the GTR takes the cake. But in terms of looks, I honestly think the R8 wins that category. Of course, if I were given a choice I'd ttake the R8 cuz I've always been a fan of it.
Gofishus
So, you gonna race those cars or what? Why else would you buy a car solely based upon it's speed?

haha yea.. most people lack the money, not car knowledge.

anyway, against all reasons concerning speed, i would go for the R8. i simply like it for what it is...
chicanerist
wonder if the op just has the money to spend and lacks the knowledge

i'd say get the r8. zac efron drove one in 17 again. and zac efron gets all the girls.

Yes i did try googling, i also watched a dozen videos comparing the 2 cars on youtube, but i didn't find the information i was looking for and that is the reason why i posted here. Why else would i waste my time waiting for answers?

Yeah, but Zac Efron is also gay.
weee: )
i'd say the r8. they're coming out with the spyder which looks pretty cool, so you might want to look into that
YoMi~
It's down to personal taste really..

R8 ~ better build quality + more classy

GTR ~ better performance + cheaper

I'd go with the GTR because it's cheaper and has better performance, you could always fix the interior up a bit with the $$ left over ^^
jakex1
You are going to be spending 85-130k for a car,
How about:
1.call up a dealer.
2.schedule a test drive.
3.???
4. profit.

because everyone has different tastes.

it's because he's an attentionwhore. you can tell by the first post in this thread. There's more important things to ask about both cars, yet all he asks about is which car is faster. (somthing a 16 year old would do, lol).

and like I said earlier, those who have the money to buy these types of cars usually does their research themselves. (ie a Nissan or Audi forum, not soompi)

^ Relax. The kid thinks fast car = bigger penis size = gets more girls. So he's asking which car he can pick up most chicks with.

just do what I did. Contact Pagani Automibili, order all the components for a Zonda F and pay Bill Gates to assemble it for you. Cuz you know, if you were nearly as baller as I were that's what you'd do.

Seriously though, If you want the attention of your "home boys" get a GT-R. If you want the attention of girls get an R8. You probably won't be able to drive either car to its limit so it doesn't matter what you buy.

i dont think daddy will let him touch the car LOL and i jsut realized u are comparing a 75k car to a 115k car
j00n
If you're going to get an R8 don't be a pansy and go for the $115K model. Do it right and get the R8 5.2 for the extra $35K...but we all doubt the OP is buying his own R8.
HakuTheDog
I am not a huge fan of the R8 soley, because it's "slow" (for it's class). If you're going to spend $110k or so on a car and you want a fast and great handling car - Corvette ZR1.

I am an import guy myself, but no matter how much you dislike domestics for whatever reason, the ZR1 will stomp both cars listed. GTR will put up a good fight though. But the whole purpose of the GTR is it being "Godzilla" (an affordable supercar). And I'd still say the ZR1, because obviously you have the money, why worry about maintenance?

boost
might as well get a 2009 viper acr and smash all 3 cars in the performance category

Well isnt the maybach supposed to focus on luxury while the cts-v does both? Because in that case, im pretty sure a CTS-V will take a rolls royce out any day, but i would still drive a rolls royce :/

GTR is not an affordable supercar. I've been looking around for 70k cars and GTR still sells for around 100k at dealer, the lease rate for the GTR is about as much as a Gallardo SL.

#2

GT3 RS is different from ZR1, personally I would not drive a ZR1 mainly cuz I like my money for show tongue.gif so GT3 RS for me.

#3

Viper ACR is 105k MSRP.... cheaper than both ZR1 and what you can get a GTR for.

GTR disappoint me the most because its suppose to be an affordable supercar but its not. I've worked my ass off and save up enough money to buy a car of my dreams, ain't no way in hell I'll get a Nissan when I get a Gallardo or an Aston for the same price.

The SL is same as a GTR? wow thats crazy.

yea id rather get a gallardo/vantage without losing warranty for everything
mikez
Yeah in this state of economy almost all of the exotic pricing are dropping like mad. The GTR isn't because the dealer are still keeping their marke ups.

From my search, there are a lot of ore owned 2007 DB9, GT3 RS, Ford GT that cost as much as a 2009 new GTR. There are a lot of 2007 Gallardo, V8 Vantages and Porsche 997 TT out there that are cheaper than a 2009 new GTR.

I was also at the Porsche dealer 2 weeks ago and they sold a brand new GT2 for as much as the Nissan dealer charged for a GTR.

If I was buying now, there is no reason to spend the same money and skip out on cars that are more rare and respected across the globe. Would you want to join the gentlemen's club, or hang out with your adolescences cool kids club? lol
uraha
Get both, that way you can show off the looks of the R8 and drive fast on a straight line with the GT-R
