HONG KONG : Actress Michelle Reis has decided to undergo artificial insemination in a bid to keep her business tycoon husband Julian Hui, said Hong Kong media reports.
The 39-year-old reportedly promised her mother-in-law that once she finishes her current work obligations, she plans to have a baby by no later than 2010, giving the Hui family their very first grandchild.
The couple who have been married for almost 11 months, have yet to have any children, prompting rumours that Reis is infertile. With Hui’s mother longing for a grandson causing additional tension, the pressure has been on for the former beauty queen to have a baby as soon as possible.
Afraid that her husband might take on a mistress to bear his offspring and in a bid to maintain her status within the Hui family, Reis has decided to become a mother.
An insider disclosed that although Hui is devoted to Reis, if she was unable to get pregnant, there is nothing to stop him from seeking a child with another woman.
“Even if Michelle did not want children, she has little choice now if she wants to salvage her marriage.”
With Reis’ biological clock ticking away and after discussions with her doctors, Reis has been advised to proceed with the artificial insemination procedure in America as soon as possible in order to ensure a smooth pregnancy.
Besides having more advanced artificial insemination technology, having the procedure done overseas will enable Reis to recuperate fully in peace without being under the watchful eye of the paparazzi.

What kind of husband is he? A rich one. Why do you think she's going through so much pain to keep such a jackass?

Having a baby is a great thing.. but not when you are pressured like the way she has been. I hope it all goes well. Her husband is a douche!

^LOL.
I don't get why everyone's calling her husband a douche; I doubt he actually TOLD the media that he would go find a mistress if she can't get pregnant - I bet the article just added some info in there just to support their stance.

A child to hold a marriage together?
I wonder what lead her to believe he would search else where if she was to not rush into pregnancy.
Either she is paranoid, having trust issues, or there must be some evidence that he is more than willing to depart from her.

well, she souldnt marry him if she doesn't want to be a mother , b/c that's exactly what they expect her to do.
She married him, is DUhh, becuse he's uberrr uberr rich,
n he marry her b/c she's super pretty and want his kids to inherit her genes..lolzzz
But she needs to give birth in order to maintian her status in the family, and it has to be a BOY. yes a boy, a girl means nothing, really. cuz wealthy family always want a boy to carry on their bloodline, the thousands year old Asian mentality.
How sad.

it's expected from a traditional, rich family like that, hope she is going to have a boy or else she's really going to feel the family's disappointment

How harsh and sad her life must be right now. I hope she gets pregnant quickly! It must be devasting to know that your body can't become pregnant on it's own. Every woman hopes to have children when she is older and to find out that you might be infertile sounds quite devastating. Good luck to her and her family.

He's the one that doesn't look very fertile.
But the article does sound like it's adding more colorful adjectives to make the situation more interesting than it realistically is. Far too often, people believe that by having a baby it'll salvage their marriage or make them more domestically happy. If this is truly her situation, poor woman. That's not the kind of life I would wish for myself, to have babies in order to please a man and his family.
Editt: "He's the one that doesn't look very fertile." That was just my comment; however way you want to interpret that is your choice, and no I did not mean he's ugly.

When you are a rich man who has mother with traditional values, you have no choice. If your wife can't give birth, you opt for another way to produce a child to please your elders. That is the way it goes for traditional Chinese people.
And yes, being a rich man he is, if he can't get impregnate his wife, he'll impregnate another woman for that matter.

hey, isn't she the one where she came from a poor family and latched onto the guy because he was richer than the other men she dated, where were also rich? i forget, but i think that's her. and the parents of the dude doesn't like her because of her profession and station. when you marry that high up, you would need to secure an heir as soon as possible. this is kind of like the japan dynasty, princess masako in which she had so much pressure to secure an heir.

It'll probably take several attempts before a successful pregnancy. I'm not sure a year will be enough. Some couples go through this process for several years before becoming successful. Also the chances of having multiple births increases with this method.

so many assumptions are being thrown around in this thread. None of us know the situation that she is in or the circumstances under which she decided to undergo this process, let's not make up elaborate stories to satisfy our curiosity. It sounds like the writer took the liberty of adding in a few bits to make it more interesting, but that doesn't mean it's fact.
anyway, I wish her luck.

NOTHING TO STOP HIM?!?!?! That really sucks. Those traditional really sucks. My grandma is just like that grandma. I think it only happens to most to the Dad's mom the most... I don't know why it's like that -__-, I guess like they say "It's Traditional" I feel like it's more like superstitions to me. That's why I didn't want to live in Korea, so many traditions you have to keep up with, it's painful.
That is a lot of pressure for her. What's worse if she gets a daughter instead and not a son. Why can a daughter be the leader for the company, why does it always have to be a son? huhuhu.

She is so gorgeous and he's bleh but he's super rich so that cancels out his unattractiveness.
^^^ Yeah, why is she the one to blame when he could be the one with the "problem"? And what happens when she does get pregnant and out pops a girl. More blame coming her way eh?

He makes her economically stable and her children (if she does have any) will have a secure future. Well compared to Isabella Leong's Husband he is far better, but she is very very beautiful and tall.
I thought she was considering surrogacy but because of chinese tradition, its believed to be better for the mother to bare the child rather than another woman. If she has a girl, that means she is still able to have babies, therefore pregnant again! Its not like they can't afford it.

Just another unproven theory since everyone seems to be having so much fun.
When my mom and I heard about this like a while ago on the radio, it sounded nothing like this article. It sounded more like she wanted to have a kid, but she didn't want to be pregnant. And immediately my mom said, probably didn't want to get fat and lose her perfect body. She said a lot of chinese celeb did that, but i'm not sure who else. But I mean it's a possibility, maybe she really doesn't want to put her body through the labour. They are rich, why not get someone else or pay someone else to have their child.

Because she's not the rich one, he is. If he was going to pay another woman to have his baby, he may as well ditch Michelle (like he did with his ex-wife) and find some other gold digger to have a baby with.

contrary to the majority I seriously don't find her that attractive and to have a baby just to maintain her status isn't too healthy...would she really love and care for the baby or just see it as a "life saver"/ " money maker"? Besides I wouldnt be suprised if they find out it isn't her that's infertile rather it's the john tesher she calls a husband. I'd laugh my ass off.
