i am currently using internet explorer 7. im wondering if should upgrade to internet explorer 8 or try something different. i would need something easy to use.

IE7 and 8 are fairly similar. There was a bigger change from 6 to 7 when they added tabs and those extra features.

If you like, you can try out Firefox... all browsers are pretty similar but IE is probably the least secure so you're more likely to get viruses and spyware.

hmm ok a ? involving firefox. will websites and stuff look different in firefox and will my icons look different.

Icons for what?
For the most part sites will look the same. There are a few incompatible sites but otherwise should not be a problem. You can always install it, and not set it as the default browser. That way you can play with it but it wont change any of your default settings.

The site has a lot of useful info. I been using IE 8 since it was released, and I am very pleased with it.
