So I got rid of my dearest Honda Civic 1.5 LSI Coupe (it was on its last legs, bless) and replaced it with an Audi TT 1.8 Coupe - Quattro. Most of my mates were suprised that I went from Japanese to German but I've always wanted a TT. It was a difficult choice between:
- Audi TT Coupe (2001)
- Mini Cooper S
- Mazda RX8
The TT won me over with its all wheel drive, secure handling and grip esp in slippery/rainy conditions (rains alot in the UK). The ride can seem a little harsh due to the stiff suspension but that keeps it well controlled in the corners.
Even though its a 2001 TT it still turns heads, the body shape is just lush. It was also within my price range so it was a no brainer.
The only annoying thing about it was the car insurance - can't believe its a group 18 out of 20. Two ratings away from a Ferrari and Porsche category WTF.

^ditto. The new TT looks way better
also I know that the TT you're having I have a funny feeling you'll end up fixin it here and there in the future.. Why? I was thinking exactly the same thing like you 2 years ago..getting myself a TT. But then when I did some research online, I saw the price was AMaZINGLY loww.. Seriously like I can get one for 20k miles on it for $12k.. And I was like why that cheap? I did some research on it and I found out that those TT, you'll run into problems in the future.
Now that's why I decided not to get them because of that ): (you know how German parts are expensive, ie. Audi)
may I ask you how much did you get it for?

New TT is much better looking, but if that was your price range, I would've suggested you got a 3L V6 A4 instead.
I have an A4, and it's a beautiful car (same color as your TT), but the engine and model year have proved to be far more reliable than the older audis that have problems with ignition coils and whatnot.

Thanks for the comments guys. Totally agree with all of you that the 2nd gen TT is sexier no doubt. Who doesnt want that version, at the end of the day it was down to price. There was no way I was going to spend over £25k for the 2nd gen TT (I'm currently saving up for a deposit on a house so that was a no go.)
evoJDM pauL, you're prob talking about the first batch 1998 - 2000 models. It was well documented that both the coupe and roadster models were unreliable with reported crashes and related fatalities occurred at speeds in excess of 180 km/h (112 mph), during abrupt lane changes or sharp turns.
In the end Audi had no choice but to recall all models in 98/2000 and improve the quality - esp the car's handling at very high-speeds. Rear spoiler were added, along with suspension modifications on the improved TT's.
Luckily enough, I've managed to find a 2001 version at a bargain price, £5500 with the mileage at 80k. I'm not worried at all about this car. Two previous (one lady) owners with full service history from authorised Audi dealer/garage plus the timing belt was changed at 78k. It's been well looked after for 8 years.
German parts aren't expensive for us Brits prob cause we live close to Germany. The worst cars which I will never ever consider getting again is a French car, stay away from them. My very first car was a Renalt and lets just say I was nearly bankrupt trying to fix that up lol. Lesson learnt.
20k miles on it for $12k, thats cheap mate. You will never find a TT thats done 20k at such a low price.
SHARK, Audi A4 is smooth as you like on the motorway (my cousins got one) very nice indeed and he convinced me to look at Audi's in the first place. The coupe was my fav style so I went for it. One minor problem I've heard from the previous owner was the spark plugs, had to change every year but thats to be expected.
I find it really funny how they say its a 4 seater, no chance, its 2 seater - you have to be a midget to be able to sit in the back lol.

Nice car, but your steering wheel is on the wrong side
I wish parts and labor for European cars weren't so high over here. If so, I wouldn't mind sporting one.

Congratulations. I got excited for a second because I thought it was a new one. But as long as you like it, then it's all good.

I've always thought TT's looked like VW Beetles with a sportier look. Seriously, it's the rounded roof...
