should i be worried?

how are some people so goal oriented

snot in my natural nature

i'm like a leaf in the wind

and tadpole in a stream

a turd in a flushed toilet

lost in a dream

a burp in a scream

a particle in a laser beam

h in Hakeem

yup

i spent too long on my poem

meh

how is you feeling?

goal in sight!

vs

the things in my poem

i'm so old

I think a lot of people in their early 20s can identify with how you're feeling. It seems a lot of people feel a bit lost and do a lot of soul-searching at this stage in life. Don't worry, you'll figure it all out sooner or later, and it's no big deal if you don't. Some people are happy to just go wherever life takes them instead of swimming upstream.

Maybe you can just write poems for living...

the solution to your aimlessness is to go experiment! Volunteer for stuff, take on different jobs, do courses, that sort of thing. At your age, I was back in uni doing a masters, but by then I'd volunteered for the olympic games, washed cars, worked at as mechanic, office admin, logistics, tutor for high school kids, tutor for first year uni students, did a short course on japanese swordsmanship, etc etc

There's plenty of things to do out there

I agree with this totally! When you feel hopeless and lost the best thing to do is find yourself and what you like to do. How do you know whether you like them or not, experiment! You have all the time in the world. And by the time you find your place, it will probably be the perfect time for you. Like me, I was lost for so many years. Didn't know what to do, didn't know how to go about things. Then I went to see what I would like and who I was. Now I have a purpose and it's not too late because if I had found out what I wanted to do back then as opposed to now I wouldn't be ready.

I guess my romantic notion is, that things will come for you when you're ready for them. Things will come for a reason I suppose.

yes yes yes!

listen to these two. dont put yourself down cause it'll only make yourself miserable.
go explore.

Exploration is the only way to figure out what you want to do. I teach ESL in Asia. I never planned on even going to Asia when I was your age, but I wanted to live overseas and took a chance on teaching in China. I've been teaching for six years and I love it. I'll probably go back for my masters next year so I can have more opportunities to teach in more exotic places. Try something new. You never know how it will turn out.
