Softbank is the telecommunications company, but the phones are made by Samsung. That's like saying Verizon makes all their own phones sleep.gif

Wow the Sh906i is lovely & it takes really nice pics! I have the P906i in white, but I wished I got the pink one instead. I'm also planning to purchase IonNuke's hypersim and putting it under Tmo.

Here's a couple of photos taken w/ my P906i

Here are some photos of my keitai! tongue.gif

^
^ the p906i is like ridiculously sexy in pink D: if it were me, i would've gotten pink or silver. but white is always classy.

Handily, I have this pic from testing out a new camera last month. It's ye olde Samsung/Softbank 707SCII that I bought a couple of years ago... The two annoying things are that it has no predictive texting and net/email only works on Japanese networks. Also, the phone was released before there was widespread use of Windows Vista and last time I checked there were no drivers/software for Vista, let alone the English version of Vista.

May I ask whether T9 input or internet works on the docomo phones? I'm looking for a new phone in a similar light/slim folding style though I'd really like better functionality. I've just ordered Windows 7 too so I hope history doesn't repeat itself with the new phone not playing well with the new OS.
kerpao
so far there hasn't been a docomo phone with t9 released. the closest thing you got is a full qwerty keyboard =\ (sh-04a)

Unfortunately, to my knowledge T9 capabilities are lost in unlocking pretty much every Japanese phone. I mean, I don't mind, I absolutely adore that phone, but it keeps a lot of people away.
stere0xide
actually almost all if not all NEC phones on Docomo and Toshiba in Softbank have english T9 capability..

NEC: n905i/n905iu/n906i/n906iu/N-01a/N-02a/N-03a/N-06a/N-08a/N-09a and a big plus is some of these phones come software unlocked so you dont need a hypersim or you can use 3G on AT&T for the US or Rogers/Fido, Telus and Bell in Canada (no for T-mobile)..

yeap.. I got my SH-06a so far I love it biggrin.gif
I'll post pics soon..

(if i'm remembering correctly, you're currently residing in japan? or was it someone else......)

just wondering,
does anyone have any news of the winter collection of keitais? lol... wishlist time :>
stere0xide
docomo's winter line up which is this the the B line (SH-01B and so on) is pretty disappointing, the designs arent as nice and none of the sharp phones have gsm..

Majorly informative posts! Thanks kerpao, PristineNyte, stere0xide.

Damnit... why must the local phones look so... unusual, in general unsure.gif ...

Alright, I'm off to browse the docomo/softbank websites.
PristineNyte
^^ That's how I felt! But with the budget I'm on, I could really only afford the 707SC II. I wish I could have gotten a cute Docomo like people have posted here :| So jealous!!

Now I'm curious. Where do you buy these phones?
I'm afraid of getting one while I use Verizon & not
having it work. xD I don't know how this using foreign
phones in USA thing works... call me dumb, hah.
PristineNyte
Does Verizon still not use SIM cards? Because if they don't then you can't use a Japanese phone, gotta have a SIM card.
I bought mine off of Ebay, already unlocked.
inconnu!*
I'm actually planning to buy a Keitai, but then I realized you need a hypersim.

Can anyone tell me what good hypersim out there that is relatively cheap and
easy to use without too much complications? I'm actually confused about hypersims
in general. xD
deeism
first you need to do a bit of research on your desired phone... research which hypersim is compatible with the phone and your sim card.

there's going to be some complication with hypersims for sure... though if you find a good one, then it'll just be less of a hassle. most people use i-nex, i-smartphone, etc
Ah^Junx
Does anyone have the 'Sharp SH9110C'?
pure.sophiestication
I'm selling the white sh906i if anyone wants it in my shop.

Sadly none of these phones work with verizon.
Verizon isn't a GSM network, it's a CDMA.
I'd trade my phone in asap if it wasn't :3

Some networks are partially compatible, like T-Mobile.
Which is a GSM Network.
While some of the features may not all work,
a majority of the phone would.

It all depends on the network/carrier.
Hope that helps.

Well, things like internet and whatnot will never work, regardless of the carrier over here. I think it's kind of misleading to say that the majority of the features would work, when Japanese phones for example have TV, radio, internet, and we wouldn't be able to use any of that.
deeism
hello softbank's winter collection!

some comes with wifi! i wonder if wifi would work outside of japan.. hmm.

I apologize.
I meant as in main features phones over here have.
Which, in general is lacking.
I do not own a "keitai" phone,
just a comical verizon phone.

Things like calling, texting, uploading music, the camera,
would still work mostly. {depending upon network tech setup}

But until the US has caught up technologically,
it's to me, a big waste of money,
buying an expensive phone that you can't even use the main features of.

I think it depends on the person. For me, I didn't buy my 707SC because I wanted to use all the snazzy features. In fact, I have no interest in smartphones with added features like the iphone or Blackberry. My interest in keitai's are for the aesthetic appeal (lol I'm so shallow). I purchased mine because I thought it was drop dead sexy and I got what I wanted. A phone no one else had that I could use to call people/text since that's the only thing I use it for.

Plus the phone culture in North America is very different in Japan. Even if I could use the features like radio, TV etc I don't know if I would. For example, I'd rather watch TV on my big TV screen or even download onto my laptop. A phone screen doesn't really suit that purpose lol.

I'm currently in the market for a new keitai, sold my old one to a friend and I've been toting around a plain SE phone for 2 years. I'm just hesitant about using hypersims so I prefer to buy phones that are unlocked.

So for me, the money I'm paying is for a one of a kind phone that looks amazing, not for the phone's actual capabilities =D

941sh!!! Omggg it's beautiful @___@
SH-03B is hella sexy... I love white phones

I'm exactly like you, that's why I got the 707SC II. If I could have afforded a fancier Docomo phone, I would have gotten that, but I just prefer Japanese phones when it comes to looks. Come on, I went from a Sidekick to this phone, I don't need features haha.

EDIT: Holy crap, I was just browsing Ebay to further my being depressed because I can't afford a Docomo phone, and I ran across this gem

They all need a hypersim unless you have an old phone or have a factory unlocked/china version of it. Yes, they are easy to figure out.. but it'd be smart to do some research before you actually buy one. Just because it looks nice doesn't mean it's the best phone for you. (Not really you but in general)
