I have already posted a topic asking about insurance companies and such!
I will explain my accident more in detail!

I was carpooling after school so I was not the only one in the vehicle! i was the driver.
After stopping by at a local dairy queen to try the new pumpkin blizzard (omg sooo good i wait all year for these) I started to go on my regular route to drop my friends off home. I was in a playground zone/residence area so i was going a solid 30, turning off into the main road. Now i live in a small town so I pretty much have all the signs and roads memorized! As i was increasing to 50, i see this big red 4 runner SPEEDING through the yield sign which i KNEW was there. Since i knew it was there when i was turning into the road, i obviously had no intentions of stopping! However when i saw him going that fast, i automatically knew he wasn't going to stop. It was a moment where i said to myself "your going to get hit, timing's a b*tch, there's nothing you can do, make this accident less dangerous then it can be" I reacted and slammed my brakes. He was going so fast then he hit my bumper off, rolled IN the air, rolled twice onto the ground and luckily landed with the car on its wheels.
Immediately I started crying making sure everyone in my car was okay, everyone was fine, my friend called 911 as i called my dad. Watching my friends parents come pick them up was painful. i felt AWFUL but they were being so supportive and assuring me it wasn't my fault and that their not mad at me! The man was telling his wife on the phone that I had hit HIM , and i lost my mind at him and was like "YOU HAD THE YIELD SIGN" and such. ugh so stupid!

Luckily, I had many witnesses even pedestrians! I was recorded as 0% at fault, HIS insurance company paid for my chiropractor sessions and my friend in the passenger seat got a minor concussion and needed physio. They covered for that as well. My car got written off, but its okay because I am getting a nicer car hahahahaha smile.gif

I'm emotionally scarred from this accident. I could barely drive my mom's car last week!
EVERY NIGHT i close my eyes, i replay the 4 runner rolling in the air with a man inside of it.. it was actually
one of the most gruesome things i have witnessed. I have dreams about it, and I constantly think "If i hadn't stopped, he would have hit my door" then think of the possibilities from that! I'm just scared to even drive, I am getting my new car in about 4 days and i'm nervous!

Has anyone been through what i'm going through?
How was coping with the accident and how long did it take you to go back on the road?

this is my car at the scene. sad.gif my poor car sad.gif it's written off now. hahaa you can even see the yield sign that he blew in it lol! can you see the pumpkin blizzard just kickin it beside the car as well?

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your replies! It's been a bit over a month since the accident and i got my new car 2 weeks ago. Driving at first was difficult and scary but I'm getting comfortable with it day by day. I'm looking at this accident as good karma smile.gif I am more defensive and I now understand my parents when they don't want me to drive into the city. They know i'm a good driver, it's the others. I also got a nicer car hahaha. Thanks everyone!

You just gotta let things go. It'll take some time, but after awhile, you'll be okay. Thank god that you and your friends are alright. Just be more aware of your surroundings for now on. Especially with a new car coming in. Just drive like you normally do (except going on 50mph on a 30 speed limit street). Overall, just be more aware. If you don't feel comfortable driving just yet, then you can have your parents drive you or a friend drive you until you feel safe going back on the road again. Good luck. smile.gif

Glad you guys are safe and out with minimal injuries. Must have been scary. First major accidents will have a long term drama effect so just do whatever to take it off your mind and relax.

She said she was turning into a main road? Which its speed limit could have been higher or why else would she be traveling that fast in a 30 zone right?
Some people are idiots when they are at fault they make the most ridiculous comments to the other party. How would you be at fault when you got hit and rolled...

go and ride some roller coasters. fight fire with fire!

Jeez that sucks, but as said before, you gotta shake it off or the incident will influence the rest of your life. If it helps any, ride shotgun with parents and friends to "make friends with the road again", for lack of a better description.

This is one of those instances where some SUV drivers think they're Jesus because they have the bigger car, and therefore, priority over everyone else on the road.

Good thing you're okay!
Be very glad that you escaped from this accident with no major injuries. Just try and let this situation go.
Or try to not drive for a while!

Gosh it's just a pumpkin blizzard, all this for a dessert?

lolol jk

Accidents happen, get over it. It's just part of growing up. Yeah they are scary! After a accident I get creeped out driving afterwords, especially if its the same car. But eh, I tell myself "im eventually going to die anyway, so get over it and move along". After a few month's you'll get over it. The guy who hit you, he got pwned. Good thing you had witnesses.

What car you getting next?

thank you everyone for your input!

haha i know right.. stupid pumpkin blizzard if only i had resisted this wouldn't have happened!!

Yeah you are right, i think its just because I wasn't at fault for it, i am now going to be sketched out for every other driver which could be a good thing?? Driving feels like a chore now..

Another honda civic smile.gif lol! i love civics, but now i have a 2004 civic blue coupe. I hate to say the accident has resulted with me getting a better and nicer car tongue.gif

Yap, just keep motoring. Accidents are scary and they'll stick with ya, but not at least you have your own car accident story.

Just be alert at all times, maintain speed limit or keep up with traffic. Speed up on on-ramps. Don't text or talk on the phone while driving and always wear you're seat belt.

You'll be alright. Sorry to hear about the accident, be tough and move forward.

I just wanna tell you that YOU ARE SMART, AMAZING AND BRAVE!

im really old... most likely older then u..and i still have my L (purposely) cuz im way too scared to drive.

I absolutely hate driving. I just wanna say i understand your situation... i (not being the driver) was ina car with a group of friends and something similar happened.. my friend was having a hard time cuz she really thought everyone in the car could have been killed and what would have happened. With her smart quick thinking (just like u) everything is fine.. i think one of the girls strained her neck but everyone was okay.

Thank u for standing up for yourself as well... (the part where he was telling his wife it was your fault) i think i would have been to shaken up and upset to even try to say anything and stand up for myself. Also cuz they say Asian drivers are bad.. but im glad it showed stupid truck driver=bad driver. Actually it was VERY SIMILAR to what happen to me and my friends.. (it was like 4 yrs ago) u know.. big cars always try to intimidate smaller cars and act like they can rule the road.

Im glad your okay.. use this not as a negative thing to worry about, but more like "Today is a new day" even if its not your fault.. always use a negative to make it a benefit and positive thing.. u know what? Its ACTUALLY EVEN BETTER if u look at it as a "close death call" when this happen to me.. i tried harder in school, was nicer to my parents/boyfriend and was able to finish cleaning my room and keep it clean (i know random eh?)

awe thank you!! smile.gif
i'm really glad to hear you and everyone was okay.. to think about what could have happened was probably the worst part..

oh i HAD to! i was getting so mad because everyone who had came AFTER the accident happened, looked down upon ME because I was the asian teenager and the stereotyping kicked in. I was yelling what happened to everyone. Eventually my dad was like "you don't have to prove yourself to everyone. Just calm down, it wasn't your fault we know!"

awe thank you for your advice! it really made me feel better smile.gif

The reason you're dreaming about it is because you're probably constantly thinking about it. I remember in a movie, it was based off something that happened in real life so I'm not BS-ing you. In the movie, the dad was trying to figure out a way to help his son cure his disease, he spent so much time thinking about it, and was so absorbed into it, he dreamt about it. I'm not sure if it's ever happened to you, like say theres a big exam coming up, and it's a toughy and you've been studying for days straight, when you go to sleep at night, you even dream about the material. Because it's something that's constantly in your mind, then I dont know how it works, I'm guessing your brain thinks it's something very important so it plays it back to you. So, don't think about it, of course it takes time, but don't think about it. Accidents unfortunately, happen everyday to alot of people. It's bad to say, but it's normal. And think of it this way, you're alive, and that's what matters. Don't think about what could have happened or what would have happened. Think about how you are alive at this very moment and that is what's important. Hope you feel better.

My mom got involved in a car accident months ago. She was the only one who survived while her two companions died on the spot. I saw some changes in my mom, she seems very scared all the time. She can't sleep alone, with the lights out or the door closed. She won't ride any vehicle unless it's driven by my dad. For months she took sleeping pills because she can't sleep at night and she had nightmares. Now, nine months has passed and she seems back to normal although there are times when she's in the blues.

The thing about accidents is (that I learned from this ordeal) it can happen to anyone at anytime no matter how cautious you are (my mom's driver who died was a very cautious one but the truck that hit the car was driven by a drunk driver). Surviving from such accidents makes one stronger and hopefully appreciate life better. Just give it some time and you'll be back on track

i hope youre okay now. in that kind of situation you should try to avoid the car even if they had the yield sign - when youre in a position like that its not about who has right of way, but about how to stay safe. heres a tip for the next time you're in a situation like this - youre best bet is to look off to the side where there is open road or grass. when youre about to get in a crash, you end up whatever youre looking at. so if youre looking at this rude driver running a yield sign, you will hit him.

as for getting over it, you never know how long it will take you. i had a bad accident over 5 years ago in my 350z and my rsx-s, both accidents because someone else was being stupid. i still have nightmares about them sometimes - but its easy to ignore it because i keep telling myself its not my fault. after my accidents i made sure i reviewed the driving rules in my state, and i never go over speed limit or make sharp turns/lane changes without signals. if someone happens to do that to me, i just wave to let them know its okay and try to spread the love on the road smile.gif

cheer up, feel better, and dont be afraid to drive. its now my favorite-est thing in the world biggrin.gif
