Full Version: Upgrading to window 7 via laptop

I have an Asus W7SG laptop (white)
it comes with vista home premium i believe and i decided to upgrade it to window 7 professional.
Apparently upgrade isn't comaptible since the versions are different (like vista home premium to 7 home premium is required).
My solution was to wipe install window 7 and then format the whole laptop. This was the only way possible because my laptop is one of those where it comes w/ a "preset list of program" within your hard drive or something. (like it comes w/ it so there's no window disc and etc...). I suspect a portion of the hard drive is locked/burned onto to hard drive so it can't be touch similar to the bios.

The upgrade is successful and all, however, i stumbled across this issue....

The function(fn) keys doesn't work anymore mainly because now that i lost all my preset- asus programs, they tend to cease function as well -.-". I have a sound button on the side of my laptop... well it's busted now.

I tried going back to asus and installing some back but i have no idea which program regulates power4gear, sound and Wifi/Bluetooth (and driver necessary)... and basically every fn key... (is there a program that regulates the fn key?).

Would be very happy if anyone can solve this issue thanks ^^"

Did your laptop come with two disks? My Asus came with the Asus recovery disk and M51 (my laptop model) Driver & Utility disk. The latter should have all the necessary drivers to get your Fn keys working again.

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling your keyboard from device manager and letting windows automatically reinstall.

Other than that I'm not sure about any other method. I'll keep searching cos I might need to fix it too after Windows 7 clean install. x3

the funny thing is ... my recovery disc and asus disc is crap lol.
I tried running it and it doesn't like me.

I solved the "fn key issue" but not the power 4 gear one... it's really hate the one. lol
I did it by searching asus's website and dling a bunch of stuff
