I have this project that's like 60% of my grade. Since this website is pretty diverse, i'm asking you guys to help me out on answering a quick survey. It will be anonymous, but I would like to know your views on bilingualism. How do you guys feel about bilinguism within the US and why? I support bilingualism...heck I support multilingualism. You know children have a sensitive period to learn language. You can teach them as many languages and they can learn them flawlessly (Well how to talk like thier instructor flawlessly). Whey limit yourself?

If I could learn another language, I would learn Spanish because it is the second most used language other than English in USA. I regret that though. I chose to learn Khmer in High School.

I took Spanish in High School because it was mandatory but now I am learning Korean for fun. I used to be an English only person but now i'm open to all languages. I would like to learn as many as I can!!!!

Bilingualism is beneficial both socially and cognitively. It may help with self-esteem and enhance social skills.

Not necessarily here in California (or at least in the area where I'm from), but in other parts of the country, I feel like bilingualism isn't promoted as much because many bear the attitude that since you're in America, you should speak English. Why the hell waste time learning another language? Meh, it does help that many foreigners do speak English, but learning another language doesn't hurt. You may gain a better insight into English if you know a Romance language, for example. (:

I would like to learn Spanish just because it would be beneficial, but I am slowly learning Japanese for fun because I am fascinated by Japanese culture and the language itself.

Given the terrible analytical abilities of even most college grads, no one should attempt to learn a second without completely mastering their native.

I learned Spanish awhile back.
Then took Japanese the following year.
Now on Korean and planning to learn Chinese afterwards.
But that's mainly because my major is International Politics.
but it's a good idea at the same time.
It's helpful and better than just knowing English.

And i think bilinguism in the US is a very good thing because we have A LOT of tourists
who arent fluent in English...so there'll be ppl there to help & translate or whatsoever.
And ppl frm different backgrounds can communicate with eachother.
Or even do business together.
I mean imangine everyone just speaking English & when they go into another country
that doesn't speak English...what would they do?? when there's no translator?? no one who understands what they're saying??
