i was wondering, how long did you guys study for the SATs? i'm starting to get freaked out now, lol. i haven't started studying at all. i was actually planning to cram all my studying in the last week or two before i take it. that's what my dad TOLD me to do, surprisingly enough.
and i was honestly never that scared of the SATs. but i'm starting to freak out a bit now because some of my friends are like, already attending their 3rd SAT prep class or something, they've been studying for 5 months already now, doing stuff like memorizing 100 words a day.

and they still don't even plan to take it soon. they're planning to study hardcore for 2-3 months more!!
and i'm thinking, do i need to be doing this too?!
how long did you guys study for? how did you study for it?
what was your score in the end?i want to calm myself down...because if i get too anxious and nervous, i feel i'll do even worse on the SATs...D:

I took one practice test the week before the test and got a 1850 ... bleh
For the October exam, I studied the math and writing/grammar sections only by taking a few practice tests in those sections.. still awaiting the score

For my first one (March 2009), I studied quite alot, attending SAT prep classes, but then again I fooled around as well thinking it wasn't so important, so my scores were low.
Then I took it in May, which was pretty much right after the March one, I studied, but my score only went up 10 points. So I realized it is very difficult trying to raise your score in a month's time.
Then I took the October one (scores are coming out this Thursday! Yikes), I did take SATclasses in the summer, but mostly, I went to B&N everyday with my friend and did many practice sections, till it got dark outside and my brain/eyes were on the verge of exploding. The whole process gave me a huge headache, but I feel it was worth it, and now I am more confident that my score has raised for this final one.
Please, don't cram everything last minute, not only is that completely stupid, it's pointless. Just do a few sections every day or maybe 1-2 whole tests a week and that's enough practicing up till your REAL test day.
and as for vocab. I know what its like being forced to memorize 100 words a day. I think it's one of the WORST teaching methods a teacher could teach at a SATprep class. 1/2 of the damn words will most likely not be on it.

lol expect to get a lot of replies tomorrow cause that's when the scores for the october SAT are released...
so i don't know my score yet, but i did take a testmasters course in the summer. i was also able to cram all of the 300 vocab words i needed to know the night before the test.
i think i did alright. probably around 2100 and hoping for a 2200

it depends on your memory and learning style.
If you're the type that has a really memory, cramming might just work, but not in one day.
Or if you're the type that needs some time to learn and understand stuff, then months ahead will just be good enough.
Take a lot of practice tests and just learn some new vocabulary every week. Cramming does no good since it makes your brain all worked up.

When I took it as junior in March 2009, I received a 1670. Didn't study. Nada.
Then I took it in October, a second time. Same thing, didn't study. Didn't prepare. Received an 1800 flat.
Kind of sad, because I was aiming for a 1900. But yeah. It would be recommended for you to take practice tests! Hahaha, I regret not doing that.
Good luck!

if you study hard enough for the first time you take it, and then you get a certain score, that's most likely the range of score you'll end up getting time and time again. in other words, no giant increases or decreases in score. that's what the sat is all about, it's about APTITUDE. and honestly, i don't think your aptitude can change between a month or two. so once you get a certain score, you can keep studying (unless you do something totally rigorous and beyond this world is not up to me..) but most likely your score will not fluctuate that much. that being said, i worked my BUTT OFF studying for the october sat... and i only went up 30 points. i am still in no proximity of my goal.

^WOAH, how is 2370 not high enough.... my god... crazy @.@ GJ though

I took my first one in March 2009 (Junior Year) and I didn't really study much. I didn't go to prep classes and I just bought a Barron's book and kinda skimmed it. I never took a full length practice in one sitting and I never wrote a practice essay. I kinda walked into the test without knowing what I was doing. On the Scantron there are 40 questions on each section and I freaked out because I thought that was how many questions were in one section... turns out you don't end up filling all of them in haha. I did pretty bad: Math 660, Reading 610, Writing 650. So yea I thought I did pretty bad... compared to my average this was pretty pathetic. A lot of my friends went to tons of prep and did worse than me so idk if prep would have helped me.
I took it again this October and I studied even less than last time. This time I just wanted it to be over so I walked in and told myself to be relaxed. This one felt a lot easier and the math was remarkably simple. I improved a decent amount from not really studying and prepping. Math: 750, Reading 670, Writing 620 [I dropped in writing because the essay question was really hard this time around. It was basically impossible to use text or historical evidence.] Yea so I improved a lot in my score out of 1600 and I'm satisfied. Could have done better in writing and English but w.e.
Relax and don't stress so much.

FINALLY DONE WITH SATs woohoo~

took it 10/2008 after a 8 week "bootcamp" course that was a pain in the butt. it was everyday, one practice test a day, 1 day to correct it, and the 3 remaining days to learn lessons on what was usually on the test., got a 2060.
then took it in january again w/o studying, got a 2000.
then over the summer and for 2ish months? i just went to barnes everyday, sat down, and took practice test after practice test. i finished like 2 and a half books.
that was seriously the best way to study, my practice scores started improving, and 10/2009 i took it again and i got a 2180
