I've always been puzzled by how the researchers came up with the idea that the consumers in the US pay $3.33/mbps for Internet connection.

(From this month-old article: http://gizmodo.com/5390014/internet-speeds...-shown-visually)

This is what I've been stuck with over the years. (The costs are listed as dollars per month).

Late-1990s, Bay Area: $30 for a 3mbps cable line ($10/mbps)
Early 2000s, Bay Area: $45 for a 3mbps cable line ($15/mbps)
2004-2008, San Diego: $25 for 1.5mbps DSL ($17/mbps) and $50 for 3 mbps cable ($17/mbps)
2008+, Bay Area: $15 for 768kbps DSL ($20/mbps), $20 for 1.5mbps DSL ($13/mbps)

At my company: $5000/month for a guaranteed 6mbps line. ($833/mbps)

-------------------------------------------------

Apparently, I've been overcharged my entire life for internet service. If everyone I know has been paying $10+/mbps, there must be a whole crowd somewhere out there getting > $3.33/mbps Internet service. Could someone please show me where I can find these ridiculous-good deals? Or everyone using NetZero?

i think it's because of the less populated areas that get counted into the average? kind of like the average price of oil in the US but in densely populated cities its like more than the national average?

but yeah if i was paying 3.33$/mbps then i'd be paying 9.99 instead of 29$/month
hard to find good deals, especially if there's only 2 providers for broadband like where i live HUHU
