Can anyone give me a rough idea what might be wrong with my computer, first i was working on it normally then suddenly it just turned off. Everytime I turn it on it goes to the page that says the computer was not shut down properly, it gives me the option of starting it up with safe mode, last known configuration mode or start normally mode no matter what i choose or even if i leave it to run alone it'll just keep restarting and comin back to that page. Please help anyone!!!

Are you using a laptop? If so, it might be over heating. If it's not over heating, did any bluescreen or messages occur on screen every time it restarts?
Also, what OS are you using?

ah thanks for replying so fast. Its actually a desktop computer, there was no bluescreen or messages except for the "u didnt shut down ur computer properly" one that no matter wat option u selected to open with (like safe mode) it just restarted agen and came back to the same thing the "u didnt shut down ur bla bla"
The OS its windows XP that is wat u mean by OS right?

Yeah OS is XP
I can't think of a situation where a crash can cause THAT many problems. Normally if windows crashes, just restart and its all good right? But your case is so strange. Have you given the computer a break, like leave it off for a few hours before trying again.
So even if you select safe mode it doesn't help you? End up back at that screen?
If thats the case, the only solution I can think of right now is to do a XP repair install. Normally it wont mess up any of your files and programs if done properly but you will need the disk.

Yeah, whats the temperature? you could download a free tool like Speedfan or go in the bios to check for the temperature.
Also, no virus and such?

I've already tried installing windows 7 instead of the repair install, it would load then freeze and thats about how far i got, just before the instuctions. My brother's saying that its probably a hardware failure, can any of u suggest a way of finding out what component might be failing, he's guessing its the ram or motherboard. thanks for the replies keep them comin

Very hard to say, you should make sure the fans are clean. That is the cheapest and easiest thing to fix. It would make a lot of sense because it freezes while after the computer has run for a while (during your install).
If I were to guess in terms of computer part failures, I would say hard drive damage (explains why you can't boot with files being corrupted), power supply issues because the computer loads drivers and kicks some of the stuff into full power at start up, or video card because that tends to run quite hot and does switch modes from text mode into graphics mode for the windows desktop.
Motherboard is possible, and I had plenty of issues like that before but those are the easiest to swap out and test.

Awdark ur a genius!!! It turns out it was the hard drive overheating, we took it to a computer repair shop wen we realised it wasn't as simple as a problem we thought it was. Fanx for all the help guys! very appreciated
