My brother's laptop has been kind of crappy ever since we got it. Or maybe he did something to it, I don't know..
Anyways, probably about two-three months or so ago, the sound just suddenly stopped working. The volume icon in the icon tray has the speaker with a red x right next to it. I started the laptop up today to use it and I noticed that the volume button on the laptop was "muted" so I pressed it and the volume worked again..

But then when I restarted the laptop, the volume stopped working again. The volume icon suddenly had that red x next to it again. I thought maybe if I restarted it again, it would work, but it didn't >_>.

Is there something wrong with the sound card or something? What can I do to get the sound working again?

Much appreciated.

Can go to the laptop's manufacture's site and look up the laptop model. You can download updated drivers for the sound card and hope it works.

I've tried that before. the problem is when I have to restart the laptop to complete the installation, the laptop just shuts off. Then I have to wait a couple minutes before I can turn the laptop back on.. o_O And it doesn't work.

Haha
hm you have a interesting one there. It is possible your laptop has a different sound card, like rather than using the Conextant HD 221 it uses a Realtek or something instead. And It might be giving you problems. Otherwise... call up the laptop maker, they might have advice or search for the series of laptop and see if its a common problem with a fix.
