I know I do! It makes me feel better than having an awkward silence around the group of people I don't know that well... Unless I'm with just a friend.. Then I'd feel like a jerk for pulling out my phone in the first place...

HAHA OMG YES.
I used to sit on this bench after school, surrounded by a bunch of outgoing dance crew people. I was kind of an outcast, so I just pretended to text all the time ): such a fail..
im glad i found a better place to hang out now. LOL.

Oct 30 2009, 05:32 AM

Oct 30 2009, 07:50 AM
haha i just joined that group.
i don't actually pretend to text, though. i DO text - usually my best friend telling her how awkward things are

Oct 30 2009, 07:52 AM
I rarely do that... I usually find other things more creative to do (or to say, if I'm with someone).
But I realize that a lot of people rely on their cellphones, not only in awkward situations. Even if they're bored or something. (Some just wanna show off their new cellphones or their new wallpaper or applications or something).
A lot of people would rather play with their cellphone while waiting or while on the bus rather than staring around unless they go to *sleep mode* <--- That's me sometimes.
The most common would be... while eating... hahaha... A lot of people would rather even hold a giant burger with one hand and use their cellphone with the other hand like a pro...

Because they don't wanna be seen as eating and staring around and admiring/focusing on the foods they're eating. Similar to when you take a poop except that no one can see you...

LOL!! in awkward situations??.......i guess so but when i'm walking by myself and i see a group of guys who look suspicious i pretend i'm talkin to someone on the phone >.<....but when i told my friend about this she said what if it rings?? haha xD

Oct 30 2009, 08:30 AM
when I walk past a group of guys, I tend to look at my phone and have this really puzzled look on my face to show them "hey look! I'm so engrossed in my message that you guys don't even exist! so don't even try to disturb me!"

I pretend to talk on my cell : P
only if I don't want to talk to someone and I'm with a group of people
but if it's one on one, I think its rude so, I don't
I just cough or I start a new convo ( :

Oct 31 2009, 11:29 AM
ALL THE TIME HAHA.
sometimes i really do, but most of the time i'm too lazy to actually start a text haha.
yeah... it really does help to avoid the awkwardness since you look like you're not paying attention -.-
i do it a lot when my friend goes off to hug this guy she likes for like 5 minutes if no one else is around XD
either that, or i start looking for something in my bag as if it's so important at that moment XD

Oct 31 2009, 01:11 PM
I don't pretend, I just start texting random friends about totally irrelevant things.

But yeah, I do it A LOT when I'm stuck in awkward situations.

Oct 31 2009, 01:18 PM
ROFLMAO! Yes. I joined that group on FB too! xD
I tend to do that when it's just reeeeeally awkward. It makes me feel sad though. xD
There was this one time that actually got me sad.
My friend told me that she was going out w/ my ex. I knew already but I pretended like it never happened.
She was staring @ me & I was really hurt inside so I grabbed my phone & pretended to text.
I just said, "Yeah. Cool." & stared at my phone pretending to text & tried to hold back the tears.
But I'm totally over him. I even told my friend that & she couldn't help but laugh.
I guess this is a good way to hide the awkwardness? (=

Oct 31 2009, 01:24 PM
yup, when apparently i'm just pressing a bunch of buttons on my phone.
I'm trying not to do it so much because it reads as of "don't talk to me" look. Well that's what I think.

No, but I carry around earbuds with me even if I don't have an iPod or whatever. Usually I don't like it when strangers talk to me. =(

Oct 31 2009, 03:59 PM
Yes. Sometimes when I wait alone and people pass by...I don't know what to do and standing around doing nothing is kinda weird so I whip out my phone and start pressing random buttons trying to make it look like I'm texting someone.
It works.

Nov 1 2009, 08:10 AM
Yeah, I do. But I try not to. LOL

Especially if there are a lot of people, and I'm the only one. Like if I'm waiting for someone to arrive -- I hate waiting. Ugh. So yeah, I guess it's one of the pros in owning a cellphone because I'm not so fond of texting.
