hi guys, I'm doing a research project on financial aid for undocumented college students. I thought I would post a thread on this and get a general scope of how everyone (college students) feel about this issue.

I'm going to go with "bad idea".

The tax dollars I pay/my family pays/American citizens pay should be used for contribution to American society, not to illegal immigrants. The money will therefore stay in the country in the end, find a better use such as furthering the education of citizens who ultimately contribute to the economy in the end, keeping education costs lower for those who reside in our country, and give less of an incentive to have illegal immigration.

On another point, other countries grant scholarships and whatnot for over-seas or getting an education in a foreign country, as well as student-exchange and sponsorship programs. Even though I am all for a global economy and the improvement of lives across the world, I don't think crippling the strongest nation in the world is going to be a good idea in both economy and quality of living.

I'm going to agree with the term "bad idea", but I think that the naturalization process for illegal immigrants that have attended school in the United States and successfully entered a college should be significantly relaxed.

Education is an investment in the future and investing in youth interested in pursuing further education, illegal immigrants or not, can only benefit the country in the long run.

I agree with everyone else, "Bad idea".

Like others said, our tax money shouldn't be spent on illegal immigrants. We shouldn't give illegal immigrants another incentive to come here..

OooO now I feel like I'm going to anger a few of you haha, but its fine because I like to speak my mind. Here's what I believe.

I think it is a good idea. If these students (graduating high school students) aren't helped in getting a higher education, the probability that the socioeconomic gap will increase, is there. In many cases these graduating students were brought to whatever country by their parents at an age where their decision wouldn't matter. It is when they are spoken of a higher education that they realize that they won’t have it easy. It will actually take a lot of support from their friends and family, and of course financial support. Now if we go into the financial support they need, we will know that their parents or family's main reason for staying in that country is because that country offered a better future for them (economically) and their children. Although they lead an economically better lifestyle, they aren't able to support their child like they would have liked to, why? Because they are a family with low income jobs, working as dishwashers, cashiers, etc. This is why they send their children to school, so that their children won’t spend their lives working in a place where the future looks bleak. If we decide to never give them a chance in having a better education, they will decide to look at other ways to make money, whether good or bad. Uneducated people result in higher crime rates; hence we will have to be paying more taxes for those in jail. Do we want that? No. We want a more educated work force. Now another thing I want to point out is that, as a tax preparer I have seen various amounts of illegal immigrants come in and pay taxes. They pay taxes, yet they never get the credit. If you still don't believe that look up the definition of an ITIN. It's the identification illegal immigrants use to pay their taxes, since obviously they do not have a social security.

To summarize what I have just said here are my basic main points:
1. Most of the undocumented immigrants trying to get an education are high school graduates, trying to accomplish a dream, because we all have dreams.
2. A massive amount of uneducated people result in higher crime rates, meaning more taxes for prison, welfare, food stamps, etc.
3. Undocumented immigrants (most) pay taxes.
4. Give them a chance; all they want is to become someone.

And yes, it does anger me that people think that undocumented immigrants just come because they want to. But honestly, they have to if they want their family to live. And if you think that they should fight their government, let me laugh at you. It's not as easy as it sounds, they die of hunger first.

In addition, it will be the country where the immigrants reside, that will have the advantage of helping them.

Geez, did I make sence. hahaha
