Anyone here want to major in Psychology?
If you have helpful resources with information about psychology you are more than free to post them! ^^

Fire away!! This was my original question, ask your own as well! :

I'm not sure if this could work out but this is what I heard that I can do... But since I'm too lazy to ask a counselor I ask you guys...

Can my major be Psychology and minor be Education, so that I can get a teaching degree and teach Psychology to High school students?
What should I do if that is not the best path to take?

-I will come back and tell you what my counselor said when I get off my lazy butt and ask her/him
.

Resources:::

1. Find colleges with Psychology Majors from around the world at College Board
2. Learn more about Psychology at American Psychological Association

I don't think Education can really be minored...
However you can definitely major in Psychology and then work towards a Certificate of Education which will enable you to teach in whichever grade level that you want.

I wanted to go for that too but I don't have enough time with my B.S. and I-O Concentrations in Psychology.

But Psych majors for the win!

Good luck wink.gif.

Thank you. I thought nobody would answer my question, but that really helped.

I was also thinking about criminal psychology, where you use psychology to solve cases or to reinforce the law. That would be very fun. ^^
Theres so many things you could do with psychology!! ^^

Is that like a criminal profiler? Like Dayle Hinman who "gets into the mind of the criminal"? I've always been interested in the forensic files show and such, that sounds cool :]

I know right? I think it is something like that. You get to take pictures and examine the crime area and then make a hypothesis of what happened just by looking at the crimes. It is fun thats why Im thinking about either that or becoming a high school psychology teacher. ^^ Im excited now.

I am not sure about that yet because I just started college this fall... and I took the time to pick out what major I wanted, so Im going to be majoring n psychology this spring as well. But my brother had taken some psychology classes in the same college, and its the same thing I learned in high school. Its really fun though, but im going to find out about it as well. hahaha!! I know I wasnt any good help.

I'm on the Sciences path, I want to become a Clinical Psychologist. It's usually best to get a B.S. if you want to get into a Ph.D. program but B.A. is good too.

My first year was awesome, I enjoyed all my classes and I still do. I'm a 3rd year psych major now and classes are getting harder and more specific. I love how many choices we have in deciding which psych classes to take because there is always a class for every interest. When I started Psych, I thought I would never have to write a paper again but I was wrong, DEAD WRONG. I have a paper in every Psych class but they're actually pretty fun to write. I became a Research Assistant and I still am one, it's enjoyable and what's better than earning credits and a recommendation without having to take any exams! Psychology is an awesome major smile.gif

besides the different class choices, theres different career choices. If you like to work with children then you can become a child psychologist like the ones that you find roaming around in elementaries. Or if you like to work with the community theres psychologists that work with the community. Theres also industrial psychology or something like that were you have to use psychology to attract peoples attention to a product. Its all very interesting. ^^
I really cant wait to get started on my psychology classes.

I have another question? What are some things that make psychology classes hard?

I'm planning on becoming a Clinical Child Psychologist, I want to help children with mental disorders, etc. Industrial-Organizational psychologists earn the most money because businesses are willing to pay a lot to improve their employees' abilities at work, I've thought about it before but nahhhhh lol.

What I think makes some psychology classes hard is the amount of detail the students need to know. In 101, it's all the basics, once going into a class like Clinical Psychology, it gets in a lot of depth that studying gets more difficult with each exam. The questions also become more applied instead of definition based, really tests your knowledge. What is also hard is the psychology classes with a lot of focus on biology and I am not good with biology. Biopsychology was one of the hardest classes I ever took, it was all details and the professor likes to ask questions on exams when the answer is only found in ONE SENTENCE in the whole textbook sleep.gif. Also, the papers get more difficult to write, especially in Advanced Research Methods where I have to design a new experiment that is different from the ones in the field right now >_<.

Oh, it sounds hard, but it doesnt sound like my tax classes. oi, those... literally are killing me. So much to remember, you have to apply everything to real life, and see what is best for who blah blah blah. Maybe because im not interested in taxes, but psychology. I love it... I think I will do good. ^^ If I have questions... can I ask you? hahaha. I dont know if I want to be a high school teacher, that teaches psychology, or a criminal psychologist something like that. hahaha. ^^

Oh gosh taxes classes?! Ugh, taxes/economics/accounting, courses like that scares me away!

As long as you love what you do, it's all that matters and if you have any questions feel free to PM me smile.gif. I don't know everything about Psychology courses/careers/etc but I'll try my best to answer any questions and I love talking to Psych majors! There's so many paths to take in Psych, I have a feeling I'll continue to change my mind every semester tongue.gif

I'm a psychology major and I'm positive I want to work with children.
I love the whole neurological stuff, but I don't think I can be a researcher.
I am currently taking psy stats lab and that is all based on research xD.
I find it hard, but I'm happy that I'm understanding it a little more.

I don't know if everyone's school provides a class that is solely lecturing the
opportunities psychology can offer with or without grad school in mind.
The class clears up the differences between a PhD and PsyD.

If anyone is interested, I can send you the title of the books we use with all
the useful information or I can give you my professor's notes..idk if that's allowed xD
but I'm willing to help out :]
