So I always get these comments

"You're a first year?! no way I though you're like a second year. You look mature but in a good way"
or they say "you're cute in a mature way"...but lots of people think I am only 14-15 when I am really 19.

opinions on what it means?

What is a mature look? Clearly it's based on stereotypes of whom the user perceives to be "mature"

Saying that could mean "You're cute in a grandma way"... I dunno, everyone has their own perception...
Cute without being agitated like a kid maybe?

LOL I have no idea about those comments... I get them alot too. People will ask me which college I go to or people will think I'm legal age. Oh gosh, I still have a couple years to go. I know I'm close but I hate thinking that I might look older than I really am ;;

I've also gotten the polar opposite of those comments, that I'm "cute and young"? WHUT. SOMEONE TELL ME LOL.
I think some people take looking "mature" (whatever that may be or mean) as a compliment because it means you look like you're put together or something?

I'd rather look young... lol

not long ago, like last week..i was waiting in the casino bcoz there's also buses there going to new york. and this random guy, around the age of 40 and above sitting 2 chairs away from me in the waiting area, made a little convo then said to me "are u gambling?"...i said "(hell) no" then he said, "are u 21?", i said "NO", he then said "well, u look 21".... O_o?

gosh, and mind u, i'm wearing green hoodie, with white shirt under, skinny and tan ugg boots...hmmm...maybe i dress mature? i don't think so, alot of highschoolers dress like that. sigh.
i'll always be mistaken as 3-5 years older than what i really am.

I was told once at a party that I looked so laid back and in control that everyone thought I was a fourth year instead of a first year. But that was a long time ago. Most people think I look younger than my age.

I get that a lot. I was mistaken for being 21 while I was 17.

My friend said too that I look mature in 'a good way', in which she indicated that from her point of view I looked more 'womanly' and 'independent' than most people of the same age. According to her, my behavior and personality also plays a big part in this whole thing.
