i honestly believe that, in my opinion, not a single funny girl exists in the universe- ha. im not tring to be sexist but i discussed this theory with some guys and the funniest humor to a guy is racist/sexist/crass/rude humor. when a guy does it - hilarious. when a girl does it - awkward and unfunny.

and im not talking about "cute funny" or laughing at a girl because shes hot and u want to seem interested in her. a good example of a funny cute girl because shes just a goofy character is Erin from the office. that girl can make me laugh because shes so awkwardly funny.

Sorry, I noticed this too. And I'm a girl. And it's not just with comedians either, it's in school for example. What a male classmate says that's funny, people would not laugh if a girl said the same thing.

I LOVE stand up comedy, but I haven't found one female comedian that I find very funny. Maybe crack a smile. Not much more than that though.

Well it's kind of vice versa for us. Some girls don't find guy humor funny at all, just immature. I think it's better put this way guys make guys laugh, girls make girls laugh. But of course there are exceptions too, but I'm talking about rude/sexual humor in general.

men are naturally more charismatic after several millenia of being given more freedom to express themselves. you wouldn't really consciously think it, but more often than not the male making a joke is sorta more inherently socially acceptable so that people would laugh, rather than make an awkward point out of it if it was a girl who'd said it.

In my country, a lot of well-known comedians are women.
Not ellen degeneres scripted knock-knock funny, but laugh out loud, not afraid to make fun of themselves, definitely NOt slapstick funny.
I aslo went to an all girls high school, and people there are crazy. Since we're all girls, people didn't care how they look, what they say and how they act, hence everyone is just carefee and fun.
But I agree, in hollywood guys are funnier.
I think it depends on what kind of joke it is though. Some guys are too green, which is not funny at all.

Despite the fact that I'm a girl, I have to agree with you on this. Male comedians have all kinds of things to talk about but female comedians tend to have a very limited amount of subjects. Body image, men, other women are probably it. When a female comedian talks about politics, sex, or make dirty/racist/rude jokes, I'm not sure why, but it's just not funny. But when Chris Rock does it, I fall off my chair laughing. I think it's just the ancient mentality that girls are supposed to be inconspicuous.

It may have something to do with the fact that men, back in the ancient cavemen times the men after hunting down prey/meat for the family, always sat around the campfire and make jokes to keep themselves entertained while the females would be busy preparing the rest of the food (which they had gathered during the day) and look after the children. They didn't need to be funny or make people laugh because they were preoccupied with their motherly role.
So men have been doing it for centuries, therefore are much better at being funny than women.
That's what I think.

I just find mens humour more funny ~ just becuse... it seems effortless for them ~ girl comedians seem like they are trying to hard and they just dont have the flow in their voice like men do ~ the timing etc...

well all to their own. i don't think chris rock or any of those lame male comedians funny at all. i think their humor is immature and vulgar. it all depends on what you find funny. if you're talking about crude humor then yeah i agree that only males can pull it off because if a girl comedian said that same things guy comedians said it would just sound inappropriate. but again, i don't find the jokes male comedians say amusing. i remember when my brother showed me a stand up comedy clip of some black guy (totally forgot his name but he's famous) and my brother was cracking up over all his vulgar remarks and i didn't even budge a smirk.

There are plenty of comedians who don't use vulgarity at all and are hilarious. Brian Regan, Jim Gaffigan, and Mike Birbiglia to name a few of my favourites.



On topic, I don't think the reason for this is all that ancient. I think it's more that nowadays, women are supposed to be more intelligent and composed and men are stereotyped as stupid or goofy. Think of it this way: how many times in movies are WOMEN the comic relief? More often than not, the man is the one who makes a dumb mistake and the woman ends up showing him up with her brains.
I think men are generally funnier because with society's views it just seems to "fit" their personalities better.

You must not have alot of female friends (The type that you used to like or used to like you doesn't count). And to girls who think girls aren't funny I think it might be also because of the way you interact. IMO, most girls act very different around different sexes. I'm alot more careful with what I say around girls because girls can be easily offended while guys could care less and I can say/do whatever I want. And there are funny girls out there, just not alot of them because they want to seem cute/innocent so that guys would like them

I actually kinda agree. There aren't any female comedians for actresses that I find funny and I AM a girl. I was just thinking about this not too long ago.

I'm a girl, and people tell me ALL THE TIME that I make them crack up. Yes, girls and guys say that.

Don't get me wrong, some guys are hilarious. I'm not saying that guys AREN'T funny, but that it's preposterous to say that girls can't be funny too. Some of my girl friends make me laugh so much. I'm shocked that a lot of people think otherwise.

Just to clear up a few things. No one (to my knowledge) said that NO girls are funny EVER. No one said under all circumstances it's impossible for girls to be funny. I laugh when I hang out with my girlfriends too, because we do funny things. But that's all PERSONAL, between close people. When we talk about comedians or class clowns or something, usually girls aren't as funny. And I watched all the links that people posted and suggested and I'm sorry but I just didn't laugh.

I've actually talked about this with my best friend before too, before this topic ever existed and she agreed in the sense that I've been talking about.

I am definitely exaggerating when I say there are no funny girls. like i said earlier on this thread, there are certain things that crack me up... usually when girls do something unintentionally or when they make it awkward like in "The Office"... love that show and all the ladies on there.

But at the same time, when they purposely TRY to be funny... no. not funny.

In general girls aren't that funny, 9/10 guys are just funnier ..

Humor is something that just comes naturally. There's just more styles of humor available to men than women anyway.

I forgot to add, Aussie commedian/writer Judith Lucy is really funny. I always find myself having tears in my eyes.

being a girl, and seeing women comedians, the funniest thing they can talk about is PMSing or some kind of issue that all women have.
i saw this girl comedian once. she sucked donkey balls. i swear.. she was so bad. i wanted to slap my computer screen off.

Have you heard of Fiona O'Loughlin? She's the Irish woman who lives in Alice Springs, Aus. I think she's also pretty funny.

There are some hilarious female comedian out there, but yeah, not as much as the male ones, imo. I think, unlike men, most females are only funny if she's in her familiar zone. I have some very hilarious female friends, but most of them tends to be "less funny" when they're joking in front of 'strangers'...

I believe this too, and I'm a girl. Never found females funny.

However, I make people laugh every day....people tell me I'm hilarious and I believe I am too.

what determines if someone is funny? stand-up, telling jokes, hanging with friends and leaving random comments here and now? if it's just stand-up, then yes, i do agree. i don't laugh when a female comedian comes up on stage and cracks jokes. but that isn't the only way to decide if a person is funny.

from personal experience, my friends, who are girls, are pretty funny. they drop some random comments take make me laugh. and i don't laugh just cause i want to get with them. they are literally funny.

overall, i do agree guys are funnier than girls (just from my own experience). but to say girls aren't funny, that's pretty sexist. girls are funny in their own way. just because guys don't laugh doesn't mean a girls' not funny. and i understand that you made that point because girls laugh at both female and male comedians while guys only laugh at males. but then again, girls laugh at everything. they crack up so easily, you don't even need to try. that's not to say, girls don't count then, and guys are the only way to measure what's funny. it says that girls laugh at both guys' and girls' sides because they find both funny. and a guy only finds guys funny because maybe they don't understand the girl's point of view.
