So... the other day I had to pick up my Chinese food and well there was no street parking... so me being stupid parked behind a car with the hazards on thinking it'd be o.k. since it would only take me a few min to get my Chinese food and walk out.. I come to see an officer writing a ticket.. doh... so i walk up to him and he tells me he's writing me a ticket for parking withing 25ft of a cross walk.... he tells me i can sit in the car and wait and was real nice about it but still gave me a ticket..and said it's between $30-$40... but when i checked online.. it says $54!!!!!!!! sad.gif

now.. i've never gotten a ticket or anything and had a clean driving record since i started driving 3 years ago.. should i go to court and see if the judge will either reduce the fine (its $54 ><) or completely drop it?? what are my chances??

the statute no. is 39. 4-138E Parking within 25ft of crosswalk..
and yes i know i was stupid should've looked around for spots etc. and yes i know i broke the law so if your just gonna bash.. just gtfo haha rolleyes.gif

any suggestions or help is appreciated!

Your record should remain clean, but you should just pay the fine. I don't think you'll get anywhere for contesting it.

At the scene, you pretty much just gave in and let him give you the ticket - there wasn't anything you could've done. So just don't even bother going to court (You'd end up losing, almost 100% positive on it), and at most, the only thing you could do was just beg on your knees and I doubt the judge would care...

Cough up that $54!

If you have a job, just pay for it. It's not worth taking a day off work for $54 and might not even win. Your record will be clean and your insurance will not raise since it's a non-moving violation.

Next time pop your hood when you park with emergency lights.

I thought only tickets that go on your driving record is speeding? and anything else that you get caught by from the cops?
Street Cleaning, Parking, those kinds of tickets only goes against your car not you right?

No point fighting for it, most likely your gonna loose especially since were in a recession.

I got a street cleaning tickets once, but it was on purpose. Working on election day and coincidentally the street outside i parked had street cleaning the same day but I was too lazy to move it. Had a permit displayed on dash so it was ok. Meter Maid still gave me a ticket, figured he couldnt read for crap as it says i was allowed to park in street cleaning zones. Sent a complaint and it got cleared.

You can always try to make a convincing enough story to make the fine drop but that is time and money for just $54. Finally I see someone think of a clever solution. This is exactly what I do if I am forced to, if you are going to break the law and don't want to get caught, at least make it believable. Sure it doesn't always work but most people tend to trust and more so if you drive a older model car.

In NYC, when you hit the appeal button on the website for your ticket, you'll automatically get a reduced fine.
