Hello all, first I'd like to say thank you so much for all the links, news, and translations that are up. I've had a frustrating week largely due to my computer's hard drive crashing. Yes, my baby, my one material possesion that I could not live without, decided to go kaput on me. Now I'm in the painstaking process of downloading programs and refiguring my computer to the way it was. Oh what fun...But coming back here and seeing all of Seung Gi's new radio performances and translations is definitely making me feel a whole lot better.

Vanny, glad to see you post again and especially thanks for bringing us those interview translations. Given so many of us can't understand Korrean, anytime we can hear Seung Gi's words is wonderfull and as bedifferent says shows us he's real. It's one thing to get to know him through action and facial expression, but to actually understand him sheds so much more light. I love how he describes himself as honest. It's hard to believe any entertainer can truly be 'honest' but I actually believe Seung Gi is sincere when he says it. It shows in his smile and eyes =). I think this ties along with some of the comments above about who his true self is vs. TV self vs. singer self. I think the way Seung Gi presents himself as an artist is about as 'real' or honest as an artist can get. As Vanny says even if a part of who he presents himself to be is 'manufactured' it's because it's part of his job as an entertainer. There's a time and place for everything. Entertainers have to sell themselves and in particular singers have to correlate with an image to market albums and music. I think we're lucky that Koreans are really into promoting on variety shows and such because most countries don't do that. We get to know and see our favorites artists to such an insane degree sometimes. We're trying to disect his persona here, I mean how well do people know huge stars like Madonna? And she's been around forever! I sometimes think about this and it amuses me. Liking an artist should be fun and enjoyable, not stressful and worrisome. I love Seung Gi as he is now and I think I will even as he grows and makes decisions I dont' agree. He's cute, adorable, and an overall great kid with tons of talent. Maybe sometimes it's because we see so much talent and potential when we don't see it realized it's frustrating and disheartening. Honestly, I don't want to see it like that. I just want to enjoy Seung Gi and not fret over him as much as possible.

Before I end the nite I want to say how much I LOVED "Because your my girl" from LSG, MBC radio. I can't stop listening to it! I was worried he would never sing this song again with the old Seung Gi feel, but I was glad I was wrong. It may be the 2008 version, but I had a smile from ear to ear listening to it becuase I could feel Seung Gi's passion and enjoyment. I missed the loud, booming voiced Seung Gi. The last 30 seconds was just fantastic, let it out boy! =) Thank you o51029 for keeping up with all his shows!

I laughed at your comment about being a lot more jaded than me. I think it's easy to be jaded about the world of entertainment, where so much of it is indeed smoke and mirrors, but I hope that you're not jaded about the rest of the stuff that make up your life

I saw YDHLL yesterday, and YDH asked LSG who was the most popular cast member on 1N2D, and the crowd started shouting out that it was him. LSG said that Kang Ho Dong was the most popular (which was definitely the kind and political thing to do) and then when asked who the second most popular cast member was, LSG chuckled and acquiesced to the notion of it in fact being him. He handled his celebrity and popularity SO well I thought: in that moment (and in the interview in general), he showed that he was definitely conscious of his popularity and being a bigger "star" than the other cast members, but managed to do so with maintaining his great sense of humility, which is rare to see in celebrities (in any country).

ivey79 - I too loved LSG's radio perf of Nuna You're My Girl. It felt kinda strange hearing the whole song without the huskiness of the voice he debuted with, but I enjoyed the new voice treatment equally. I hope he finds an older girl and marries her so that the song can resonate with him forever, but that's going to be a problem considering he's going to marry someone 4 years, 7 months and 12 days younger than him! It's funny cuz it's TRUE!

Random thought from the Korea Sings episode of 1N2D:
LSG wants to wash his hair but is having a tough time because of his fiinger, so he askes MC Mong for help.
MC Mong says sure, but then says to him "hey if you wash your hair with this freezing water you're going to catch a cold," but LSG insists to do it quickly. As the wackiness ensues, and MC Mong starts shampooing LSG's hair, LSG mentions how his scalp itches, and MC Mongs starts scrubbing his scalp, asking "where does it itch? here? here?"
And while MC Mong is doing this, he also cries out about how his freezing hands are going to crack, and then says, "I'm not the one who's washing his hair, but I'm having a way more difficult time than you!"
This scene was SO funny and SO cute wasn't it?!?!?!

One more random thought from that epsode:
When the guys got called up for the 3rd place "special" award and just SHOT out of the tent in excitement, and then relayed the medal over to each other, wasn't that the SWEETEST?! I totally cried. Their bond is so awesome. LSG said in YDHLL that the group dynamic is truly special, and that's why the show is so great. Ahhh so happy!

First I want to thank everyone that's contributing to this thread. I've been out of KPOP for a while but recently got back in. I've been watching the really old Xman shows with Seung Gi and Chae Yeon. Please don't flame me if this is old news...I tried to do a search on this board but was unsuccessful.

Was there ever a romance between the two of them? Or was it done just for ratings? The singing between them was awesome. I see lots of Giyeon couple talk but I don't know if it's just fanvids or what.

Also, is there anywhere that I can d/l the mp3 of Seung Gi singing "My Love" from the Bi OST? I find the clip easily on youtube but I'm looking for the mp3. It reminds me of the whole Xman episodes between them.

Lastly, thanks to everyone for all the info. And Vanny, your youtube fanvids and translations are the best.

I will post more 1N2D comments here - and mainly keep it to parts that are LSG related of course. Hope noone tells me to go to the 1N2D thread Oh wait, but KBS is going to start subbing the show so I won't need to explain the scenes. I'll just mention the scenes and why I loved them so much...

The comments about 1N2D will be a week late in reference to the episodes - because my cable system seems to air the episodes one week later than everyone else. I know I can watch the "LSG cell phone" episode on youtube, but I don't like watching the show on such a small screen, so I wait ...

I love the Seung Gi YaAH! too. It's so random but at the same time, it's endearing. I know I've expressed how much I heart Kang Ho Dong here, but I just love that man - after all, he created "Seung Gi YaAH!!!" haha. He's such a caring man, and I think since LSG is also a very caring person, they naturally gravitate toward each other (birds of a feather, ya know?). I remember this one episode where Eun Ji Won got sick from fatigue and had to go to the hospital during the 1N2D shoot (EJW had gone straight to 1N2D right after exhausting himself at a performance/concert). Anyway, in that scene, you could totally feel KHD's love for EJW. KHD also is just the best at laughing at himself to make others laugh. Okay I'll go back to LSG before someone tells me to go to the KHD thread hehe.

Random 1N2D moment from the George Washington/quiz episode:
At the beginning of the episode, KHD tells the guys that they're going to a town that is known for its strawberries. Everyone gets excited then LSG asks if strawberries are picked from trees or pulled from the ground. The guys are like, "are you serious???" LSG goes, "I've never seen strawberries (in their natural state). EJW goes, "wow...you've never seen strawberries...???" LSG replies - I've only seen them at supermarkets haha. Then KHD asks him, "So you've always thought strawberries were plucked off trees like apples?" LSG thinks about it and then says, "I've never really thought about it (how they are raised)...I just ate them." Ahhh our wonderfully Huh-Dang LSG!!!

Thank you for the translation. Seung Gi has a special way about him. His answers are always honest and humble, but he also shows a bit of wit at the same time with his words. I love how his recent popularity hasn't gone to his head and changed how he handles himself. He always seems so down to earth. And thanks eequeezee for all your translations. I read every one those at least twice just because it is so amusing to actually KNOW what they are talking about. That strawberry bit was just too cute for words. He's a city boy all the way thru isn't he?

Thanks so much for your thoughts on 1N2D. All I can say is: I DON’T have KBS World. Damn Direct TV. I get MBC, SBS, NBC, ABC, USC, TUV, XYZ… any combination but KBS. Argghhhh! I love the extra ever-so-insightful tidbits that you add to the scenes. They’re the lost-in-translation stuffs that we all missed. And yes, Seung Gi… Boy needs to go out more. He’s oblivious to the ways of the world. In general, I find happy people so attractive. Happy people who can laugh at themselves (like LSG) are even a notch cooler in my eyes.


o51029: I appreciate the time and effort that you put into all the uploads. Thank you. Can I just say that I feel your pain also? For me, it’s not the wait for the next LSG-promotion. It's for any song other than another ballad. Please, Seung Gi, can you just give me something upbeat? Anything that is toe-tapping-happy-feet fun. Anything this girl can bounce around the house with. I miss those songs.

Watching these radio clips, it struck me how much Seung Gi still enjoys singing. (BTW, the MBC-R DJ is hilarious. She killed me in that clip. Ha.) Although he is beginning to pursue other interests, it appeared that singing is still a very big part of him. Kinda like his first love I guess. I don't sense that he is just going through the motion of an album promotion. He puts as much effort into singing an older song as a new one. Plus, he seems no less happy doing a radio promotion than a TV one. I find his sincere effort quite refreshing. What's more surprising is how much the radio DJs and even your YT viewers, o51029, like his radio perfs. You figure, for a low key radio clip, the artist wouldn't receive a lot of attention. Last glanced, your post of his "You Inside My Memories" radio clip has 7000+ hits (granted it benefited from 1N2D's exposure). That's amazing. IMHO, that aspect probably is as important to an artist as any music charting, awards or album sales. Perhaps even more.

Uhh, my last thought before I sign off: it must be really fun to go karaoking with Seung Gi. I'd totally volunteer if given the chance ...

tiqi_sq: thanks so much for the poll. Quite interesting actually. I think Seung Gi is one of those artists that everyone likes, but just may not be there favorite. Probably partly explains his popularity on charts but low album sales.

bedifferent: heehee sorry if I sounded a little preachy back there. I sometimes get carried a way with expressing my feelings, but in no way shape or form would I ever want you to hold back on yours. I'm always game for a good debate and what good is a forum anyways if you can't share ideas and opinions right? Your insight along with everyone else's is what makes this forum fun. And by the way I'd put my money on it that I'm probably way older than you =)

Ok on a different note, since it was mentioned how much a city boy Seung Gi (I believe he is from Seoul) I was wondering if anyone knows what his family background. My sister and I were having a discussion on how family background (ie: economic situation, single parent) has a lot to do with a person's presence and attitude. Seung Gi seems to be a rather well adjusted kid with a positive attitude, good manners, sort of a free spirit type. I get the vibe he comes from a rather normal, loving, middle class (or better) family.

Oops… my mistake … thanks o51029 for the correction. I guess it still counts as exposure, right? There’s no such publicity as bad publicity.


That’s an interesting point that you brought up. I think LSG’s low album sales are also indicative of the rise in digital albums and the decline of the antiquated CDs in general. There have been lots of discussions regarding music piracy and file sharing but honestly, I don’t think they're the sole culprits. (I’ll try to make this discussion at least LSG-related and less off-topic as possible).

It’s true that LSG enjoyed moderate success – his songs often placed high in the music charts. Yet somehow this did not translate to high album sales. I think people do like his songs, but maybe not all in the album. Thus, the lack of interest in purchasing the whole album. I confess that I know practically zilch about the Korean music industry, but I couldn’t help but wonder whether he should consider going all digital with his albums. Sadly these days, people don’t buy the physical albums like they used to. It’s just the sign of the time. In fact, I myself prefer to just get one or two or even three songs that I like. Remake #2 is a good example for selective purchasing since the whole album may not appeal to all. In the US, there appeared to be a slight shift in promoting singles instead of albums. Mostly due to lack of resources and time. Good or bad, i don't know. IMHO, digital single sales actually are more reflective of the album success than the actual physical album sales. Digital album allows better international sales. Seriously, it is so hard to locate his older albums (especially Vol. 1) these days. I think Vol.2 is on iTunes, but the rest I'm not sure if are available via MP3 purchasing in the US. We still rely on buying and waiting for the physical albums. In theory, it's hard to know if digitalizing music will turn more fans toward legal downloading sites. That’s still moot at this point. And then there's the controversy of the lack of cohesiveness - the loss of a comprehensive body of work. The idea of just producing singles for sales instead of focusing on forming a complete body of work (an album) is controversial in itself. Even with all these talks, I don’t know how I would feel if the CDs become archaic and dispensable. There’s still a lot to be said about holding something physically beautiful in your hand. It’s still an art form that should not be dismissed.

Re: his family background - I have not a clue. If I'm not mistaken, he lives at home with his parents? That alone takes a lot of patience, compromise and maturity. On both sides, parents and child. So I guess this fact also reflects the kind of person LSG is.

Hi Everyone~~~
just watched 1N2D. So much fun - I can't wait for next week when they actually build the house and stuff! At the end, when MC Mong and LSGeun were doing the dance from the Korea Sings episode, Kim C was following them and saying, "what's this?! what's this?!!" You guys probably saw that TODAY huh???

Oh well --- here are some thoughts on today's (last week's) episode:

Each cast member was given a camera to shoot whatever they wanted before going off to shoot 1N2D...
The cast was told to meet at Wando at 8am in the morning. Considering Wando is at least 5 hours from Seoul, the cast would have to leave no later than 3am to make it in time for the start of shooting. SO, the castmembers are upset since they're leaving at night (Kim C leaves at 12:18am - so happy to see him back!) and getting to Wando in the middle of the night and sleeping in their cars and what not --- 2N3D, not 1N2D. As you saw, our LSG leaves right after his concert, and so he gets to Wando first.

They cut together a funny scene where KHD, LSGeun, KimC, all try EJW but he has his phone off because he's busy eating (EJW said he's going to eat as much as KHD before the trip because the show never feeds him well). LSG shows off all the clothes he has in his touring van, and wonders if the others are on the road as well, so he decides to call KHD - where they have a nice exchange: KHD says hi to LSG and then the cameraman to move toward the car headlights so that he can come out on screen better, which puzzles LSG because he has no idea what KHD is talking about...in the end KHD tells LSG - let's do a 1N2D shoutout over the phone - I loved that part!

MCMong shot all this fun stuff but the audio was off! They dubbed over the stuff but I was sad because I love MCMong's voice!

LSG HOTEL SCENE -
The woman at the hotel says that she's seen LSG before. He asks her, "Oh you know who I am?" (so cute) Then when the light bulb goes off he says, "You know KHD right? Well he's on his way right now and should be here any minute. Is it okay if I go to the room and have KHD handle the payment? Thank you!" He then says, "KHD said that he's going to pay you DOUBLE the rate!" (funny) Later when KHD/EJW/LSGeun get to the hotel KHD asks the woman if LSG took care of the payment and she says no (funny).
Then of course there was the moment where the three all had their cameras on LSG --- KHD asked him to sing some of the title song --- LSG tells us that this is live at 3am in the morning, then sings a bit (I loved his goofiness here! ADORKABLE!!! - who do I credit for this word?)

MCMONG WAKING THE GUYS UP -
When we see KHD and LSG sleeping, MCMong says that they look like two shrimps (HAHAHAHA!). They they move the camera to show LSGeun sleeping and the sub says "Here's another sleeping shrimp!" (haha).

ROCK/PAPER/SCISSOR SCENE WITH GIRLS -
It's pretty self explanatory but just in case - KHD says to the girl, if you beat me you get to hug LSG. (The girl screaming and running to LSG was so cute) Then he goes to the next girl and then EJW says, "why are you playing this game and selling out LSG as the prize!?!?!" So KHD asks the girl who she wants to hug and she says EJW and they start to play as EJW says, "I should be playing her (rocks/paper/scissors not you!)!"
THEN KHD asks the last girl who she wants to hug and the first girl says KHD. So LSG comes in and BEATS THE GIRL so she can't hug KHD! (I loved this scene! So funny)

That's all I can think of at the moment. Off to study --- I'll check in before I go to bed if I can remember more stuff.

That reminds me - how funny was the scene when KHD and LSG were telling each other to get off the boat first, and then LSGeun just steps off first - ah everyone is so funnEE!) and everyone else who loves LSG!

Hey, good news first. I get KBS World on my Direct TV. Now, gotta figure out the schedule, which definitely requires a PhD degree to decipher... Would appreciate if anyone can give me tips on channel 44LA's scheduling of 1N2D. I think the channel is (in)famously known for liberal editing of their programs so hopefully i'll get the full version.

Aren't those music chartings like the most confusing things ever? There's no way to accurately gauge an artist's success with no standard one chart-for-all system. I think the most accurate one is probably the soompi's chart which takes in account most (if not all) music rankings out there. Yes, LSG is at #4 after 2 weeks. Though it would be a challenge to reach the top with his absence from a lot of music shows. Not impossible, but is a tough task. Good luck next week, Seung Gi! His biggest challenge probably is Nell whose single (must give credit where credit is due) is equally as amazing. Incidentally, "Time to Walk Memories" was playing on Tablo's cellphone when LSG called him in the Sang Sang Plus episode. I love that song.

EDIT: BTW, I looove the radio perf of "I'll give you all" on SBS-R. It was very nicely sung. I love the control he has with his voice. Ya know, he keeps in reign the power, but the vibrato in his voice is still awesome.

eequeezee, I finally got the chance to watch the LSG-YDH chit-chat on Love Letter, translated of course. Seung Gi was utterly charming there. He has just the right mix of poise, boyish charm and quick wit. You're right, LSG is conscious and appreciative of the attention he's getting. Yet, he does not seem to loose perspective of his fame. He's so matured for his age. I hope that he'll find someone soon to share his love of travel. (And NO, you may not volunteer! Boyfriend may not approve, yah?) Many of my friends who are avid adventurers are also some of the most open-minded and forward-thinking people that I know. I'm hoping that LSG might not be different.

The scene where LS Geun stepped off the boat while the two guys were deciding between themselves just tickled my funny bone so much I cannot get over how much EJW can chow down (the spread of Pho in front of him did look really good). Hello all it's Sunday again which is 1n2d day! Thanks bedifferent and o5029 for the links. I too laughed from start to finish with this one. The games were fun and the challenges had worthy prizes, but I must admit I could see how tough this episode was for them to film. Not only did they ALL have to sleep outside, but they had to make their own shelter! hee hee, why is watching other people suffer so funny sometimes? It was priceless watching Seung Gi fumble with the saw. It really seemed like he had no clue or prior experience with this sort of stuff. You really love have to love his fighting spirit though. No matter what the challenge, what they ask of him, he never gives up and always gives it his all. He takes even the most trivial request seriuosly. Remember the tickle challenge on the boat? LOL I've NEVER seen anyone with such determination on their face just trying to resist a tickle dare. It was the same today with the soccer challenge and the part where he tries to catch food into his mouth from MC Mong. And when he does succeed his reaction is the same as if he's won the lottery. So so enduring...=)

Today's ep seemed to pay extra attention to Seung Gi today with multiple close ups and playbacks of his reactions and antics. The part where they showed him being fed over and over again was very amusing. Don't want to starve the little brother of the group right? I really wonder what they were saying since Seung looked so embarrased (if he's not, he will be when he sees the playbacks of him with a piece food stuck on his face ) I also about died when Seung Gi tripped and fell over on the "shower" tent with the water pail in hand. Oh and of course, my favorite part of the whole show is the wake up scenes. I've noticed he likes to sleep facing up and then rolls to the side when they try to wake him. Seung Gi was so cute when he sat up and fell back over onto Ho Dong's lap to sleep.The look on their faces today was particularly pittifull and sleep deprived though. You could really tell what a hard nite they had. Eeequeezee, thank you so much for your translations of last weeks ep. As you must know they are PRICELESS =) If you happen to have the time to translate this one too I can't wait to read it there's just so much going on in this ep! Mzsmiley, thank you for the subbed Loveletter link. I've always liked YDH and his interactions with guests and he seems to really like Seung Gi (well who doesn't? )cause he always asks questions that show him off or lmake him ook good in front of the audience. Maybe it's part of his job to do that, but nonetheless their banter was so funny and cute. And about his maturity, I too have a hard time believing he's just 21 years old when seeing how he presents himself on shows and programs. I sometimes wonder if he even realizes he can be a kid if he wants to. Maybe it's because he started at such a young age and everyone around him was always much older, he kind of got used to acting more mature to match. But I also think Seung Gi is one of those rare types that has no boundaries with age, meaning he gets along with everyone from age 3 to 80 and he seems to be able to do it on their level. I think this is part of the reason he fits in with the cast of 1n2d so well even with the next member closest in age to him is like 8-9 years older. If you notice on old programs like xman and heroine 6, Seung Gi was always very comfortable and friendly with older cast members and hung around them even if their were younger singers and actors on at the same time. He's such an interesting boy isn't he?

Love how LSG got all excited counting the number of times KHD managed to kick the ball, and when they were playing the guess-how-many-will-stand-up game to get their picnic baskets. The way he sidestepped KHD and EJW to get the egg was sooo cute!~ it totally left the two of them speechless. Ahh, should be studying for my finals but i still ended up watching LSG and 1D2N videos. this is addiction!

To answer your question, what happened was --- the producers told the two teams that they can simply eat whatever the production crew prepared for them, or they can take 15 dollars (5 for each person) and buy whatever they want to eat. MCM, LSGeun, and KC decided to buy food so that they can eat some of it now, and also have food to eat during their trip. Oh my gosh this reminds me - when MCM and LSGeun were at the store, they were $1.20 short, so they handed the cashier the big sausage and told him that he can WACK the two of them to make up the difference! That was SO funny! But the cashier just took out $1.20 worth of eggs...

Bedifferent!!! Hiiieeee Okay so you get KBS World? They don't show you the program listings? You will have to tivo all of Sunday's broadcast. This is exciting news!

Hi ivey79 - Thanks for your kind words and thanks for reminding us about the tickle scene. For those that didn't get the full context of that scene: the guys were talking about a tickle game to see who would get to drink the little bottles that are for helping sea-sickness (there were three bottles). LSG says that he REALLY cannot handle tickling well AT ALL. So KHD nudges LSGeun (who isn't ticklish at all), to pretend like he is SUPER-ticklish (it's easy to miss KHD nudging LSGeun but it's there). So LSGeun steps up and gets tickled for 15 seconds. The guys are like, "Look, LSGeun is super-ticklish and he withstood it for 15 seconds..." So LSG gets up... MCM and EJW tell him that he can do it, that 15 seconds is nothing, and to win this for his fans. They tell him, "just think about how much your fans will love you knowing that you won for them." LSG of course goes into it with all his heart, but gives up as soon as the tickling starts. MCM and EJW are like, "That's all the effort you can give for your fans???" Then they play the part of LSG's song White Lie, where the words are, "I'm sorry/for loving someone like me...) ---- SO FUNEEEEE!

Bedifferent! Your spidey sense is impressive! A 25 yr old by the name of Yoon Jin Suh has been cast as the female opposite LSG in MBC's fantasy/action drama Iljimae.
Super-popular singer LSG, who is also garnering immense popularity as "Huh-Dang" on 1N2D, has already been cast.
The PD comments about how the casting's on-going and how he's glad about this girl's casting.
This drama will be a 24 part (70min episodes?) mini-series, and will air in November.

o51029: That Ent Relay Celebrity Health segment is something else. The Korean entertainment industry is just so unhealthy. Pushing all these stars to the limit, physically and emotionally **sigh** It's a wonder that we don't see more stars collapsed under sheer stress and physical abuse. The amount of car crashes and hospital admissions are just obscene. Didn't a couple of the Shinhwa men recently had to be admitted to the hospital for exhaustion? I agree, I hope Seung Gi can take a rest before filming his new drama. His look in 2006 (around the concert and Remake #1) was most healthy for me. I don't see how he can continue with both 1N2D and Iljimae. It's a 24-episode physically-demanding drama.

eequeezee: TY for the translation. Glad that the Iljimae project is on. They're still casting and scouting for locations. Hm, so you see the drama being described as a fantasy/action one? Well, that's a bit different than the Lee Jun Ki version (which I think is more faithful as a historical/folklore drama). That one is still slated for late May/early June start. So maybe, the story treatment is not the same after all. The PD (aka: the Goong guy) once again follows his own tradition of casting a singer and a relatively unknown for the leads. He did it with Yoon Eun Hye/JooJi Hoon and Se7en/Heo Yi Jae in Goong/Goong S. (You must remember Heo Yi Jae? Dirty Carnival?) Anyway, hope that Seung Gi's acting career will get a boost like YEH.
