just checkin' in before I go to bed. Almost Friday --- then Saturday --- then Sunday! I can't wait for 1N2D. I TOTALLY watch old episodes of 1N2D all the time, so I guess we can talk about various episodes whenever! I'll chime in with my thoughts as I watch the episodes since the subbed versions are going to come out a few weeks later anyway right?

o51029 - hiiiiiiiiieeeee. the caption on the pic with the donuts says that the treats were sent to the radio station by LSG's fans, and the people at the radio station really enjoyed them. All the other pics there say nothing really - stuff like, 'performing live is LSG and Yangpa" blah blah blah.

pic 1 of MCM/LSG says, "Seung Giya!!! Next time, visit the radio station for 1N2D - hyung will be waiting here for you."

I just watched a show called CHANGE - and MCM was the special guest this week. A girl from a tiny village wrote MCM a letter. She goes to a school where there are only FIVE STUDENTS - INCLUDING HER. She wrote a sweet letter about her love for the younger students so MCM and the radio station gifted them a trip to a theme park. MCM disguised himself as a theme park character and then in the end, revealed to that girl (and the other kids) that he was MCM in disguise... I'm just rambling sorry. If you guys can watch it, please do. It was so heartwarming. I'm still crying waaaAHHHH!!!!

got home and thought I'd watch a little bit of the subbed episodes, and I have to say, I'm a tiny bit disappointed in just how much is lost in the translation... I also have to question the word choices in a lot of the lines... Also, the subbed episodes are trimmed for time I think. For instance, in the beginning of the 1st subbed episode, they cut out the part where KHD mentions that KimC had a family emergency in the middle of the night so he won't be coming along for this trip, then says how they'll move forward bravely without him. They also mention how they've been hearing about how kids who are also named SangGeun have been getting teased a lot, so they all bow down to the camera and ask viewers to stop the teasing --- two very sweet moments that were cut out.
Now the Korea Sings episode hasn't aired on my TV yet so I will know come this weekend, but watching the episode that was uploaded on youtube, they totally cut out the part where MCM helps LSG wash his hair - that was such a great scene!

I'm not trying to be a downer here. I'm just a little disappointed with the subbing effort put forth by KBS and also upset with the trimming that they've done. HMMMPH!!!

I realize that this is post should have been on the 1N2D thread...but it seems like the show is discussed more here than there so blah blah blah.

It’s nighttime here, so I put on some K-music and pop in to check on the thread. First off, yay Epik High! “Umbrella” is on my iPod replay like forever.

eequeezee, I was afraid that it would be as you said. The LA channels here are infamous for their liberal editing of the original shows. I’m not sure why I was hoping for it to be different. I get that the reason is timeslot constraint. Korean shows cannot fit into the half-hourly or hourly time limit that befalls US shows. So I do see the need for editing the original versions. BUT still, editing sometimes seemed so random and purposeless. Like they’re not taking in consideration the original work. I cringe whenever I see K-dramas on channel 44LA. Not only are crucial scenes getting omitted (literally affecting the storyline) but the translations are not even close. Mind that they are not Engrish and often are grammatically correct, they are still different from the translated versions that I’ve seen. So to this day, I still watch dramas relying on the good-hearted effort of fan-subbing groups. I can TOTALLY feel what you’re saying. That’s just too bad.

On the other hand, I’m grateful that KBS-W actually provides subbed 1N2D over not doing it at all. Variety shows are incredibly hard to sub given the amount of info and dialogues. I take whatever I can get I guess. Make no qualms about it, your inputs are still critical and indispensable. Even if with good translations, I would still benefit from all the cultural references that you’ve been tossing out. Thanks for pointing out the missed scenes (cuz I had no idea that they were absent. I really have to stop laughing and pay more attention to what’s on the screen). Seriously, 1N2D is just a wonderful show. It has the right mix of comedy and humanity. I laughed heartily from all the wackiness and silliness. I also was touched by its genuineness and sweetness. There’s just something about this group of (physically) grown men setting out on a road trip. What they see and learn along the way sometimes are truly heartwarming. It’s a reality show with a heart. And so funny to boot!

BTW, just realized that there is already a thread formed in the drama section for LSG’s Iljimae. One of the posters is a member of the B.O.N. FunSubs group. I’m crossing my fingers that they will pick up the project. That’s another thread for us to check out when his drama comes along. Ahh, the joy of following a multi-entertainer! Kekeke.

Happy Monday to you all, and hope that you guys have a great week.

I watched 1N2D, and in thinking about what to write about, there really isn't much. The 1st part was pretty much this:
The guys were given a picture of a school that only has 8 students. If they were to locate the school in under a hour and a half, then they would be able to eat lunch. SO they go around asking people and the only thing LSG to mention is when they get to the final crossroad and decide which way to go. LSG suggests going one way and the guys decide to go opposite of LSG's suggestion --- KimC says that none of LSG's suggestions ever pan out, and sure enough, he was right haha.

As the guys hit the road to look for the school, LSG opens up MCM's CD and says, "Mongy-hyung, can we listen to this CD on the way?" MCM plays modest and says, "Gosh, why are you going that?" but the subtitle on the screen reads "Thanks (for the plug) LSG" Then as they drive off we hear MCM's hype-man intro-ing the song: LSGeun says, "wow Mong you speak English really well." and MCM says, "hyung that's not me." (funny)

They get to the school and KHD tells the kids "......instead of studying tomorrow....we're going on a field trip!!!!" And the kids are like, "OKAYYYY......" EJW tries to stir up excitement and goes, "FIELD TRIP!!!" And the little girl fakes a big, "YAY..." It was so cute. Then LSG asks the kids, "do you guys like watching us on TV? or do you like that we're here live?" The kids all say "Live." and LSG goes, "Well then it would be nice if you guys can show that to us" haha. Then MCM says, "who do you guys think is the best looking?" and we hear EJW say, "why are you asking that to these kids?!" The girl says "LSG" and KHD then asks the girl, "so if LSG waits for you and you grow up, are you going to marry LSG?" and the girl says, "No." KHD says, "you're going to marry someone else?" and she says, "yes." (because she knows that LSG is going to marry someone already! her name happens to start with an E, and ends in an E, and in between there's an EQUEEZE).

My heart just melted when the guys started interacting with the kids. The kids are all well behaved --- I bet the kids would have been all rowdy and stuff had the guys gone to a school in the city (I'm generalizing but still). MCM makes a friend with a kid and asks how long it takes for him to walk to school and he says TWO HOURS! Water fight happens and MCM gives one of the kids sunglasses - so cute. I HEART MCM!

They play the capital of countries game later and the wackiness is SO SILLY. The producer asks what the capital of Egypt is and LSGeun says PYRAMID!!! OMG the guys were HILARIOUS!!!

That's pretty much it.

Does anyone know what happened after the MCM/Epik High Music Bank fiasco? It was so awkward. I also wonder if they were shooting 1N2D at Music Bank that day since the whole crew was there...

Ahh, isn't live TV great? I actually feel bad for BOTH MCM and Epik High. For Epik High because of the obvious screw-up. For MCM because I hope the fiasco does not take away his achievement. He earned it but everyone seems to overlook and focus only on the miscue. Granted it probably will be only for a week. My take is that Epik High probably will stay up there for a while so give the other guy the recognition. Congrats MCM.

o51029; You know, when I thought that I've figured life out; that I have accepted life's many mysteries (i.e.: why Seung Gi is so into his patterned clothing), life throws me yet another curve ball. BTW, Japanese customs offer sweet treats (Chimaki and mochi) on Children's Day. They also hang lanterns (is it Koi-nobori?) and put out warrior dolls on this day. Supposedly by parents wishing their sons growing up in good health. (Hmm, what about us females?) Was wondering if Koreans have similar traditions?

I enjoyed the episode that you've described. It was low-key as compared to the last one. Still sweet. The kids are so unfazed at these TV stars' appearance. Good. That grounded these guys. hehehe. I love MCM and his alter-ego. Kid is so cute (especially when he imitates his gestures). The capital games were funny. Speed-walking is the silliest. Sorry to say, I didn't know the capital of Canada. I blanked out (OMG, such bad neighbor I am *--*).

Hello all, haven't been here much in the last week due to work and friends. But I thought I'd drop in and catch up today on my lunch break. Thanks o51029 for the new pic thread! Love it. It's pretty neat to see all the changes he's had over the years, well to be honest, I dont' think he's changed that much. He's matured and grown up, but still the same cute face. Thanks for the links to the YDH radio show - it didn't offer any new insights than his other radio visits --- I thought it would be a little different since it's YDH... Only thing eyebrow-raising was YDH asked if he watches porn and LSG embarrassingly said that he delightfully does hahaha.

The 1N2D article you found translates to this:
1N2D brought heartwarming joy to kids by way of a food truck, as KBS2's 1N2D went to a remote school in Gangwondo and took the kids on a Spring field trip to a pretty grassy field.

LSG's response was very endearing actually - very LSG. I don't think it will stir up controversy in any way, or affect his image negatively at all, AND as YDH says, he's a 23 year old guy now and no a kid anymore...
the part is in part 3/5 at around the 7:40 mark.
YDH reads a question sent from a fan - "Seung Giya, I'm a nuna...do you watch porn and stuff?"
LSG questions whether it's a real question from a fan or a planted question by the producer.
YDH actually jokes at around the 8:33 mark and says that this is newsworthy stuff and that he can see the headline in the tabloids already: LSG watches porn...even asks YDH to watch it together...

I got a couple of PMs asking to translate the WHOLE broadcast (?!?!?!?!) --- I'm sorry but that's a REALLY big ask. Please kindly be a little more mindful. I feel very burdened to say no, especially because I know a lot of us here in the thread don't understand Korean, so please ask me for translations that are on a MUCH MORE REALISTIC scale, and I'll do my best to oblige... Hello everyone. Thank you eequeezee for all your translations and thoughts. Luv them. Going by my limited knowledge of K-dramas, the 20% TNS rating is often the benchmark for gauging how popular a show is. Most dramas use that number as the indicator on how "successful" they are- which i think is not true since a lot of my cult-favorites/wonderful dramas may not be very successful commercially but are great nevertheless. I think 35.6% is absolutely astounding for a variety show. (It's not the number for the whole Happy Sunday slot, right?) tiki, can you possibly clarify?

Oh.my.god people, what kind of soju are Seung Gi’s stylists drinking? I dunno, not feeling the outfit in this perf either. Yes, I know… it’s not a perfect performance. There were a few unstable notes. However, I just love perfs where the singers earnestly work the songs. It’s the only track in the album that really brings out his large voice. He did a good job with this song in the album. The original rock version is a couple of octaves higher. I like that he even attempts this challenge cause it is sooo not easy to sing it live. He somewhat falls a bit short; but he did it gloriously. (Maybe I’m the only one who thinks like this. You may all love it, no matter what.) You can feel the power and the emotion in this clip.


Seung Gi-ahhhhhh, you’re hilarious. Ha. Going on these variety shows really do a number on his wholesome image. Who needs that boring image, right? We want a guy whom we can relate to. For a while, I was a bit uneasy with his metrosexual high-maintenance image. Nice to see him talking about stuffs the same way all the other guys that I know do. Get a haircut, fine tune the wardrobe and I think maybe … maybe he’s good enough hubby material for our eequeezee.

Hee hee, you know me so well. Ack...my eyes hurt and my head hurts. What in the world is Mr. Best dress Gassoo thinking. What is his people smokin?! A bow tie? Good grief, that is NOT an improvement over the scarf and I can't see how that would be cool for anyone his age. He looked part teenage skater/casual prep/ and part priest? Sigh...I really thought that this boy had good fashion sense, but it seems for this album it's turned around 180 degrees. I think it's even affecting his duds for 1n2d. I wonder if he's thinking too much about how he looks and what he wears, it just doesn't seem natural lately. Ah well, let's hope for the best next time. But if this continues I'm just listening to his vocals and closing my eyes Oh and I have noticed he's gotten a bit gaunt too. Maybe the lack of sleep and nutrition from 1n2d along with promos and drama prep is getting to him. Dear boy, you must keep healthy to show your best for your big drama role. A hero can't be too scrawny!
