I met up with my tennis teammates for lunch today --- I can feel school getting closer and closer. SIGH. At least it's my last year. Sarang-unnie, you already started school huh?

o51029 - I have a lot of relatives on my dad's side who live in Vancouver. I've been there once after I graduated from elementary school. I hope to go visit again. It's on my must-visit list. Along with San Fran (Hi Bee-unnEE!) and Singapore (Hi Sarang-unnie). I'm going to draw up a contract for my mom to sign stipulating that I go to all these places next Summer before we settle down in LA. I know I'll be in Korea for about a month so o51029, save up and maybe you can go visit your cousin at the same time! I must start visualizing all this happening.

btw - My relatives all are crazy about 1N2D - they tell me that it's really THEE show over there. My 10 and 11 year old relatives love MCMong the best, and the older peeps love LSGeun, which I thought was interesting. And they all love LSG --- they have a tough time believing just how well-mannered he is.

Glitzyglam-unnie - I think you're in Korea as I write this right??? Did you meet him? I hope so, cuz if you don't/didn't, SeungGi oppa nekkuh!~~

Dugi I have no idea what song he was singing. But it looked like a blast. My country's waited 48 years for an Olympic medal of any colour, so its really important to all of us. I cried while watching the match, it was so nerve wrecking! They were matched point for point so many times! But the girls did well, and we are promised at least a silver in the bag now. Don't think we will get the gold, China is really too strong in table tennis. But I'm so proud of them that they got this far. My mom was funny, she was like, hohum, now isn't our little girl here in the midst of a divided loyalties dilemma? (since we were playing against south korea, LOL) Funny. Hey, our boy is going to play table tennis in one of the coming episodes too, isn't he? Anticipating it so much!

Thanks sarangaia for posting the pics. He does look terrific in the dark suit and tie. SO happy that he’s keeping it up. Yay, anytime he stays away from the geometric patterns (may it be striped –horizontal/vertical, checkered, plaid or plain zebra), I’m like totally for it. Hmm, just have to do something about the hair. I actually think the light blue jacket/white shirt J-Crewish look fits him well. The cut is not the greatest but the color is thumbs up. He looks his age, casual but polished. Kinda feel bad for him having to wear all of this in the middle of what probably is 100% humid weather. DuGi, exert some self control, would ya? Congratulations to Singapore for winning the match. Nice to see the Olympics spirit alive and well. Same thoughts for Korea’s Park Tae Hwan. Amazing job. It’s ashamed that the US coverage is so Michael Phelps-centric. I mean he’s inhumanly amazing and totally deserved of praise; but our Olympics coverage here in the US is too limited. There’s a whole world out there. Hello!! BTW, it’s ok for your heart to be divided between pure national pride and pure fangirl fantasies. We all are entitled to our escapism.

So here’s my freshman attempt at subbing music. I’m trying to get most of the songs in the Love Concert translated. We’ll see how far I can go. I’ll try to sub those that have not been translated first. Here’s You, Inside of Me (or maybe Inside Me, There’s You, something like that…). Melodies may not be as memorable as others but lyrics are not too bad. Sounding a little borderline needy, but kinda nice in a few places. People, these ballad lyrics are totally depressing. Seriously. Ever heard of we-can-be-friends and leave it at that.

o51029, wow. That is some list you got there. How long did that take to compile? But that is sooo cool to have so many of his perfmances and shows all on one page. I do have one question though. Bedifferent, great job on the subbing vid!!! Sucess! It's amazing how understanding the lyrics can add that much more to an already great performance. Very sad and touching. Gosh, his was awesome during his concert days wasn't it? Just beautiful and rich. I seriously need to go buy his concert cd. Seriously, I really need to.

Sarangaia, congrats to you and your country!! It must of have a very proud and emotional moment. Nationlism has never been a strong point in American culture, but Olympics is the exception. When it comes down to it you can't help but feel and honor and proud when someone representing your homeland achieves greatness. Yes Michael Phelps is awesome and I am proud too But I do agree with bedifferent, I wish NBC could be a little more broad in their coverage of their olympics. We get a microscopic view of what goes on at the games. Its ALL about America and well a little China too, but seriously we see mainly Volleyball, track, basketball, gymnastics, and swimming. What else goes on? Heck if I know. Ah well, thank goodness for the internet.

Oh and thanks for the pics. Singing in the rain, very nice. =) Not sure which suit I liked better. The light blue suit was more casual and fun, although the texture was a little odd. Classic black suits always look great on him and I do agree the skinny tie was a nice touch, but I wouldn't have minded either if he ditched the tied and loosened his collar to expose some skin , I've always liked that look. Great suit with open collar.

And I agree with the sentiment of 1n2d being a little unorganized these days. I miss the old format of showing up, playing games, washing up, going to bed, and annoying waking them up. These days it feels scattered and bit rushed. Ah well, still love those guys and their moments. Looking forward to ping pong this week!!

dosirak 하이틴 스타에서 드디어 ‘성년’ 가수가 되었습니다. 주위의 환경이라든지 개인적인 심리 등에 있어서 변화한 것이 있다면요.
이승기 그때나 지금이나 마음가짐은 똑같은 것 같아요. 난 하이틴 스타다 뭐 그런걸 생각해본 적은 없고. 전 그냥 항상 '가수 이승기'라고 생각을 했기 때문에 뭔가를 구분 짓지는 않았어요. 항상 저희 선생님(이선희)을 목표로 하면서 달려왔기 때문에... 예전 마음이랑 지금 마음이랑 조금 달라진 게 있다면 욕심이 좀 더 많이 생겼고 배포도 좀 는 것 같고.. 뭘 해도 좀 더 잘하고 싶은 그런 의욕이 많이 충만해졌어요.
dosirak 락 ‘발라드’ 가수로 많이 알려져 있는데 좀 더 강하고 비트가 있는 밴드 지향적 록음악을 본격적으로 해 보실 생각은 없으신가요? 예컨대 Crazy For You 같은…
이승기 네. 사실 Crazy For You같은 곡은 아주 이국적인 락이에요. 작곡해주신 분도 미국에 계시는 분이고. 곡을 처음 받았을 때. 한국에서 그런 락을 하시는 분은 없는 것 같아요. 이국적인 느낌이 강하고... 또 솔직히 말해서 기타 코드나 주법, 악곡의 세세한 부분 같은 게 외국 거랑 거의 비슷해요. 외국 곡은 기승전결이 그렇게 뚜렷하지가 않거든요. 그런 곡이어서 사실 좀 힘들었어요. 제가 하던 음악도 아니고, 또 처음으로 그런 비트를 접해봐서 녹음하는데 있어서 애도 많이 먹었죠. 또 작곡가분이 연습을 통한 향상을 강조하셔서… 그렇게 Crazy For You 같은 경우 정말 연습을 통해서 만들어진 곡입니다.
dosirak 그럼 본격적으로 그런 식의 음악을 해보고 싶은 생각은 없는 거구요?
이승기 아, 기회가 되면요. 밴드와 같이 해보고 싶어요.


dosirak 2월 스케줄 표가 아주 빡빡하던데요. 방송활동 중에 오는 피로 같은 건 주로 어떤 방법을 통해 푸시나요?
이승기 음...피로..를 잘 안 느껴요. 하하하... 사실 피로를 안 느끼려고 해요.(기침) 지금 걸린 감기 같은 것도 사실 라이브 때 굉장히 불안했던 적이 많은데요. 이 목소리로 부를 수 있을까 하고 주위에서 걱정해줄 정도인 경우도 있는데. 아직 데뷔한지도 얼마 안됐고 해서 그저 어떻게든 불러야겠다 하는 생각이 강해요. ‘이 노래 못 부르면 죽는구나’ 뭐 이런. 어쨌든 그렇게 불러야겠다는 생각이 있으니까 정말 본 방송 때는 확 하고 불러지더라구요?(웃음) 아무리 힘들어도. 그렇게 하고싶어서 한다는 의지가 일단 있으니깐 뭔가 피로함을 피부로 느끼는 수준까진 안가게 되더라구요.


dosirak 새 앨범이 전작에 비해 파워풀해지고 남성적으로 변했다는 반응이 많습니다. 신작을 제작하면서 나름대로 세워둔 주안점 같은 게 있다면요.
이승기 모든 면에서, 뭐랄까… 사실 1집이 정말 과분한 사랑을 많이 받았어요. 그래서 2집을 준비하면서는 뭔가 달라진 모습을 보여드려야겠다고 생각을 했는데 그렇게 처음으로 생각을 했던 게 이제 1집 때의 어린 목소리를 벗어야겠다는 거. 그래서 발성 연습부터 다시 했구요. 가장 핵심적인 포인트는 ‘많이 성숙해졌구나’ 하는 느낌이 들도록 하는 것이었죠. 음악적으로나 목소리로나 감정 표현으로나 그렇게. 그리고 노래를 부르면서 가장 생각을 많이 했던 것은 노래를 '진심으로' 부르자 하는 것. 사실 노래를 부르다 보면...'녹음'을 한다는 거는 몇 시간 동안 한 곡만 부르는 거잖아요. 그러다 보면 한 구절 한 구절 부를 때 불필요한 테크닉이 무의식적으로 들어가버리는 경우가 있어요. 그래서 그런걸 가급적 버리고 가능하면 순수하게 내 안에서 느껴지는 감정을 끄집어내자…이렇게 생각하면서 임했습니다.





dosirak 모델, 탤런트 활동을 병행하고 계십니다. 가수 활동 하는 데 별다른 지장 같은 건없나요?
이승기 뭔가 다양한 걸 한다는 건 일단 좋은 일인 것 같아요. 철저한 준비 없이 섣불리 했다간 이도 저도 아니게 되는 수가 있거든요. 사실 연기는, 아직은 진짜진짜 많이 부족하지만 기회가 되면 진지하게 정말 해보고 싶어요. 어쨌든 그렇게 기회가 된다면 가수를 하면서도 드라마나 영화를 하고 싶고. 연기자 활동이 가수 활동에 꼭 지장이 된다고는 생각하지 않아요. 뭘 하든 그 순간순간에 집중해서 하면 반드시 좋은 결과가 있을 거라 생각하거든요.

dosirak 그래도 그룹사운드 경험이 있으니 음악쪽에 더 애정이 크지 않을까 하고 생각되는데. 실제론 어떠세요?
이승기 네. 아직까지는 음악에 대한 욕심이 더 많죠. 올라가야 될 부분도 너무 많고. 제가 지금까지는 노래만 보여줬기 때문에, 뭐 악기나 작곡, 그리고 음악성 측면에서 더 완성도 있는 모습을 보여드리고 싶고...네. 굳이 욕심으로 따지자면 제가 가수로 데뷔를 했으니까 아무래도 음악에 좀 더 애정이 가죠. 근데 연기를 하는 것도 경험적인 측면에서 음악 하는 데 도움이 많이 되는 것 같아요. 단지 음악만 해서 뮤지션이 되는 것보다… 연기도 해보고 그렇게 뭔가를 두루 해본 사람이 음악을 하는 것과 또 음악만 해왔던 사람들도 그들만의 장점이 있겠지만 여러 가지로 실제적인 감정을 많이 느껴본 사람이 만드는 음악도 꽤 좋을 거라는 생각을 해요.

dosirak 본인이 연기자이기도 한데, 스크린 쿼터 축소 문제에 관해선 어떻게 생각하시나요?
이승기 저도 영화를 되게 좋아해요. 시간 나면 극장가서 영화를 보는데. 스크린 쿼터 축소에 대해서는..저도 어느 정도 반대에요. 지금처럼 한국영화가 많이 성장을 했으면 좋겠고. 그렇기 때문에 어떻게 보면 외국영화가 무수히 들어오는데도 <왕의남자> 같은 게 천만 명 끌고 막 이런 게 그 쪽 종사자들에게는 굉장히 힘이 나는 일이잖아요. 그래서 이런 게 그분들이 더 열정적으로 일할 계기가 될 수도 있는 건데 여기서 딱 하고 흐름을 끊어버리면 좀 그렇죠. 또 스크린 쿼터를 늘린 것도 제가 알기론 얼마 지나지 않은 일이거든요. 제가 고등학교 다닐 때 논술문제로 나오구 막 그랬었는데. 어쨌든 그렇게 길어야 한 3년? 이정도 인데 벌써 또 축소한다 이래 버리면, 자리가 확실히 잡히지 않은 상태에서 그런 결정을 내려버리면 좀 위험해지지 않나 그렇게 생각합니다.


dosirak 시트콤 논스톱에서 팬들에게 아주 좋은 인상을 남겨주셨는데요. 연기자로서 그때의 활동을 잠시 뒤돌아본다면 어떤 생각이 드시나요.
이승기 많이 배웠어요. 정말 많이 배웠고. 시트콤을 하면서 제가 갖고 있던 많은 선입견이나 편견, 혹은 몸의 자세 같은 데서 경직적인 부분이 많이 풀렸었고.. 또 연기를 한다는 건 사람의 감정을 표현하는 거니까..제가 부족했던, 감정 표현하는 것도 많이 배웠구요. 항상 가수는 무대에 혼자 올라가서 자기 안의 것만 보여주잖아요. 반면 연기는 일곱 명 여덟 명이서 한 호흡을 맞춰서.. 욕심을 부리면 안 되는 거니까. 또 나만 잘한다고 되는 게 아니니까. 그런걸 많이 배웠죠. 호흡하는 장면이나 뭐 그런.



dosirak 좋아하는 음악 장르와 즐겨 듣는 앨범(뮤지션)이 있다면?
이승기 모던락 계열을 되게 좋아해요. 사실 제가 보컬이니까 보컬 사운드가 좀 강한 쪽을 선호하기도 하구요.


dosirak 예를 들면요?
이승기 예전에는 브라이언 아담스(Bryan Adams)를 되게 좋아했었구요. 스팅(Sting)은 정말 너무 좋아해요. 공연도 가봤었는데 너무 좋았어요. 그렇게 스팅은 정말 특별한 존재고. 또 버티컬 호라이즌(Vertical Horizon). 이번에 작곡가 분이 추천해주시기도 한 그룹인데 그 친구들도 아주 좋아요. 또..미국의 후바스탱크(Hoobastank). 그런 류의 음악도 괜찮구요.


dosirak 어제 오아시스(Oasis)가 내한 공연을 했었는데 혹시 가보셨나요?
이승기 어...저런. 못 가봤어요.(웃음) 제가 작년인가 영국에서 오아시스랑 마룬 파이브(Maroon 5)랑 함께 공연을 한다 이래 가지고 한번 가보고 싶었어요. 사실 영국 자체도 꼭 한번 가보고 싶었거든요. 하여튼 오아시스를 굉장히 좋아하는데, 이런…어제 왔었군요.


dosirak 가장 닮고 싶은 사람이 있다면요. 존경할만한 사람 같은..
이승기 스팅! 뮤지션들에게 존경 받는 뮤지션 같은 그런 사람요. 그리고 다양성 있는 음악을 하는 사람, 그러니까 단순히 가수라는 이미지를 떠나서 자신만의 자연스런 ‘포스’ 같은 게 있는 사람. 그런 사람들이 존경스럽죠.


dosirak 자신이 생각하는 라이벌이 있다면요?
이승기 라이벌은 없어요. 라이벌은 없고. 왜 없냐면 무대에 서면 어떤 가수가 서든지 간에 일반인은 못 느끼는 저마다의 장점 같은 게 나타나거든요. 누구나 다 다른. 이효리씨도 그렇고 테이씨도 그렇고. 그렇게 ‘라이벌’이라기보다는 그 사람들만이 가지고 있는 카리스마나 개성 있는 장점들을 많이 보려고 해요. 그래서 뭐 라이벌은, 제가 아직 라이벌이 있을 군번도 못되고.(웃음)




dosirak 한 인터넷 포털 사이트에서 주관하는 책 읽기 캠페인에 자발적으로 참여한 것으로 알고 있습니다. 평소에 독서를 즐기는 편이신가요.
이승기 지금은 가끔 밖에 못하구요. 사실 제가 책이 되게 읽고 싶어요.(웃음) 이게 표현이 맞는지는 모르겠는데 하여튼 읽고 싶어하는 사람이에요. 시간이 안 되서라기보다 제가 게을러서 안 읽는 거라고 해야 되는데(웃음). 책을, 좋은 책을 많이 사요. 시간을 내서 한번에 몽땅 다 읽어버리고 그런 건 아닌데 제가 서점가서 직접 보면서 책 사는걸 되게 좋아하거든요. 내가 정말 좋아하는 작가들을 찾아보기도 하고.


dosirak 도시락에 십대 이용자 분들이 많습니다. 청소년기에 감명 깊게 읽었던 책을 한 권 정도만 추천해 주신다면.
이승기 음…하퍼 리(Harper Lee)의 앵무새 죽이기(To Kill a Mockingbird)를 인상 깊게 읽었던 기억이 있습니다.


dosirak 혹시 다룰 줄 아는 악기가 있으신가요.
이승기 뭐 잘 다룬다고 할만한 악기는 아직 없구요. 제가 좋아해서 취미로 배우고 있는 악기는 일렉기타. 외국 공연들을 보면서, 제가 사실 춤을 출 줄 모르기 때문에 나는 그것 말고 뭘 해야 할까 생각하다가 그렇게 잡게 됐습니다. 제가 언젠가 뭐 그게 조만간 되든 한참 뒤가 되든 꼭 한번 무대 위에서 악기를 다뤄봤으면 하는 꿈은 있어요.


dosirak 고교시절 밴드활동을 하신 것으로 아는데요. 당시 포지션은 무엇이었고 주로 어떤 장르의 음악을 연주했나요.
이승기 포지션은 물론 보컬이었구요. 장르는 하드 락적인 것을 많이 했어요. 스키드 로우(Skid Row)나 스트라이퍼(Stryper), 혹은 반 헤일런(Van Halen) 같은..지금도 그런 음악들을 많이 들어요. 그때로선..사실 이게 좀 올드한 음악이잖아요. 그래서 지금은 모던락이나 얼터너티브 음악을 많이 듣기도 하구요.


dosirak 당시 멤버들하고는 지금도 연락을 하고 지내는지.
이승기 네. 다는 못하고, 그때 베이스 치던 친구를 얼마 전에 방송국에서 봤어요. 봐서 '어, 너..' 그러면서 놀랬는데 이수영 선배 베이스 세션으로 있다고 그러더라구요.(웃음) 그렇게..당시 멤버들 지금 다 음악쪽으로 잘 해나가고 있는 걸고 알고 있습니다.


dosirak 와~ 그 정도면 당시 밴드 실력이 굉장히 좋았을 것 같은데요.
이승기 하하…뭐 저희 동네에선 유명했죠.

이승기 하하. 뭐 대응이랄 게 있겠나요. 현영씨가 제 노래에 대한 답가를 해주신다고 하면 저야 고맙죠. 그만큼 제 노래가 많이 알려졌다는 얘기일테니까 그런 건 참 고맙고. 그리고 현영씨는 만능 엔터테이너시니까. 가수라는 게 또 새로운 도전이니만큼 전 기쁘게 생각하고 또 격려를 해드리고 싶죠.

이승기 (웃음) 아..네. 그게 한 토크쇼에서였는데요. 거기서 이승기와 연기한 여자 분들이 사진으로 나온 거에요. 한 다섯분 정도 나왔는데 거기서 막 이상형, 결혼상대 이렇게 뽑으래니까.(웃음) 어쩔 수가 없잖아요. 그래서 그때는 뭐 진지한 분위기로 했던 건 아니었어요. 그리고 동료 연기자로서 남상미씨와 구혜선씨는 정말 존경할 만큼 좋은 분들이시죠.


dosirak 반항적이고 남성적인 캐릭터를 연기해보고 싶다고 밝힌 바 있습니다. 평소에도 남성적인 코드를 좋아하는 편인가요.
이승기 네. 남성적인 것 좋아요. <달콤한 인생>같은 느와르 장르의 영화를 되게 좋아하거든요. 그에 반해서 <러브 액츄얼리>같은 휴먼 코메디 장르를 또 좋아하기도 하구요. 그런 따뜻한 것들도 좋아하는데, ‘연기를 해보고싶다’는 걸로 친다면 제가 사실 그 동안 해왔던 게 조금은 모범생적인 이미지, 착한 이미지였는데 이제는 그런 걸 좀 벗어나서 반항아적이고 마초적인 연기도 한번 해보고 싶다… 뭐 그래서 그런 말이 나오게 된 것 같습니다.

이승기 김종국씨나.. 종국이 형은 제가 되게 좋아하는 형이에요. 남자답고 잘 챙겨주시고..최근 활동하는 사람들 중엔 플라이 투 더 스카이(Fly To The Sky) 형들...이 정도요.


dosirak 1집에서 결정적 역할을 해 준 싸이, 신해철씨 하고는 지금도 자주 연락하시는지?
이승기 아니 그게… 제가 휴대폰이 없어요.(웃음) 휴대폰이 없어서. 싸이 형하고는 가끔씩 다른 전화 같은 걸로 연락을 주고받고 해요. 예전에 신인상 받고 할 때 그때 고맙다고 인사도 자주 드리고 그랬는데. 최근엔 그분들도 개인적인 앨범 작업하고 바쁘시고 해서… 예전만큼 활발하게 연락을 하고 지내지는 못해요.


dosirak 그래도 이승기씨만의 개인적인 사생활이란 게 있을 텐데 핸드폰이 없으면 불편하지 않나요.
이승기 네... 많은 분들이 그렇게 생각을 하실건데. 그게 휴대폰이 없어서 편한 경우가 되게 많아요. 항상 있는걸 없애기가 겁이 나는 부분이 있어서 그렇지 막상 없어 보면 되게 편하거든요? 뭐 대부분 생활이 불가능할 거다 이렇게 생각할텐데. 뭐 그런 불편함 같은 건 전혀 느끼지를 못합니다. 물론 언젠가는 만들어야겠죠. 근데 1집부터 쭉 없어왔기 때문에(웃음) 사실 또 특별히 만들 계기 같은 것도 없었구요.




이승기 사실 처음에는 MP3라는 그런 게 나왔을 때 제 몸으로 실감을 하지를 못했어요. 음반시장이 얼마나 불황인가 하는 뭐 그런. 왜냐하면 1집 때는 가수 활동 자체를 처음 하는 게 되가지구 모든 게 어수선해서 음반시장에 대한 흐름이랄까 뭐 그런걸 파악할 정황이 없었어요. 근데 2집에 와서..앨범 판매보다 불법 다운이나 이런 게 많아지는 현상을 보니 되게..답답하긴 해요 사실. 왜냐면 가수는 정말 힘들게 만들잖아요. 녹음하는 매 순간순간 자신의 한계를 계속 뛰어넘어 가야 되고. 또 녹음실 앞에선 항상 긴장된 자세로 있을 수 밖에 없고..그렇게 1년 혹은 1년 6개월을 충분히 준비하고 또 고생해서 13곡이라는 결과물이 나오는 거거든요. 그런데 그런 앨범의 가치가 불법적인 형식으로 훼손되버리면 저희들로서도 좀 답답하죠. MP3든 CD든 형태는 상관없지만 최근처럼 무방비로, 불법적이고 광범위하게 다운로드가 된다는 건 좀... 그렇죠. 저도 MP3플레이어를 사용을 하는데. 일단 가수 CD를 사서 그걸 리핑한 걸로 듣거든요. 그리고 또 MP3랑 앨범은 분명히 차이가 있어요. 앨범을 사게 되면 그 앨범에 대한 심층적인 정보 같은 걸 많이 알 수가 있거든요. 음악 하나를 들어도 가사나 악기 세션이라든가 뭐 그런 걸 볼 수가 있으니까... 외국 뮤지션의 앨범 같은 경우는 항상 평론지가 한 장 실리더라구요. 그런 것도 도움이 되게 많이 되구.




이승기 대한민국에 있는 가수 한명한명, 하나의 곡을 만들기 위해서 팬들, 그리고 자신을 위해 많은 노력을 하니까 도시락 유저 여러분들도 음악 들으시면서 그런 점을 조금씩이나마 헤아려주시면 고맙겠어요. 뭘 들으시든 상관없으니까 우리 가요 많이 사랑해주시구요. 그럼 몸 건강하시고 신학기 준비 잘 하시길 빕니다

o51029-unnie, I had to pick my jaw up from the floor after seeing the list you compiled. WOW WOW WOW. And yeah I was 12 when I was in Vancouver and Vancouver Island. I have such fond memories of Vancouver, especially because that's where I started watching X-Man, and it was that trip where my relatives introduced me to Koyote --- hence my love for Kim Jong Min.

Bee-UnNeE - yes it IS a promissary note! I had such HIGH HOPES for how I was going to spend this Summer until all my expectations got shattered. I miss our house in LA so much...
I don't want to be filled with regret again, so all I'm going to say is --- o51029 and B-unnee, do save up for a possible trip to Korea and if the stars align, where we can all be there at the same time, then.......then.......THEN...... Just save up okay?!

Sarang-unnie, YAY to Malaysia winning the medal! I think it's always so wonderful whenever smaller countries bring home a medal(s). I'm amazed at how that website you get pictures from gets such great and NEW pics of LSG constantly. I'm so glad! And thanks for posting them! There was one gif that you posted where LSG is in the canoe with EJW and he's moving back and forth - that was TOO FUNNEEE!!!

Apparently, LSG is working on his 5th album quite diligently, and HOOK was contemplating a November (Holiday) release (too early wouldn't you say?). This is just speculation that my cousin in Korea had heard (she works in the entertainment industry over there so she's a pretty good resource). And apparently, this was mentioned in some article a while back, but 1N2D was intending on going to Japan (did anyone hear about this?). I'm guessing it may have been to visit LSG at Iljimae, but now that Iljimae is scratched, I wonder if they will still go. That would be JJAHNG!.

Can't wait to watch the latest 1N2D. About two more hours to go!

A round of applause!! So much good stuff going on in this forum. I feel as if everyone here has given so much to share and spread Seung Gi love. Well, except me. Eeqeuzee, 5th album? yes?! Oh gosh, that would be tooo awesome. Yeah, october might be a little soon for a really good album though. Hate to see anything rushed. But more than the album, I was hoping he might be taking vocal lessons or working on strengthening his voice back up again. If he's going to do another album I can wait until everything is just right. The songs, the style, his voice. But either way, just knowing he's working on something makes me really excited!! And a Japan trip possibly? Hmm... that would be interesting. Wonder what the PDs can conjure up to torture them with. Hee hee.

eequeezee Haha dear, slight mistake there, its Singapore that picked up the silver medal. And its our first one in 48 years, the first medal we've achieved since independence. I think the Chinese were rather puzzled as to why we were so happy even though we only got silver, LOL. The great thing about the Olympics is that you have the greats creating amazing records that will go down in history (think Phelps! The guy is AMAZING.) but at the same time you have small countries achieving little miracles and upset wins here and there. Everyone gets a shot at creating his/her own mircale at the Olypmics, and there's been so many touching stories that I've read on the news. Man, I'm a real sap, I tear up at these stories every time without fail. Yea, the girls on leeseunggi.ifensi are real fast when it comes to pictures and screenshots! It seems they visit us here to, I was quite surprised to see my post from soompi quoted there when I visited them today, LOL. We're all connected by one thing!

If LSG really is going to release his album October/November, it'll be the best birthday present I can wish for this year! But like most of you guys have pointed out, its probably a little too soon, preparations wise. He's after all only wrapped up the remake album not too long ago. Then again, it'd be the best time for him to release a new album, market wise. The show is wildly popular (and it should remain so if the new PDs get things on track), it boosts his popularity, he benefits from the publicity on the show (since we all know their songs are used at every opportune moment), vice versa. Sounds like a dream come true for the company. While I'd love for his album to be out in October/November, I wouldn't mind waiting a few more months for him to produce an album with a more diverse range of genres. He's a great ballad singer, but I really do think that he handles other genres just as well. That voice still has lots of potential to be tapped into.

pink-ki Thank you for the links!~ It was a great start to my day. I was laughing so hard at them waking up! Omo, LSG is really easily startled. The SEUNG GI YAH!~~ trick has been used sooo many times and he STILL falls for it and wakes up with a great big start. I love how he just smiles when he wakes up, he looks really sweet and good tempered when he does that (ok, so its all on screen, but I still believe he's like that to a certain extent off screen ) So adorable. Ergh, now I sound like a swooning fangirl again. It was funny when they mentioned ghosts again when they were going to sleep, with KHD making a slight attempt to scare LSG (which he was, a little). I can't believe how they didn't even get a single point for badminton, when ALL of them were on the court!!! The badminton guy looked so casual and hardly worked up a sweat, whereas the other 6 guys were... well, chaotic

I've been doing some translations of the two eppies whenever I get some free time, now what's left is to find some time to gather them and post on my blog, which I will in a few days time. I kinda love school but kinda hate it too. I love the intellectual stimulation, but I hate the lack of time for everything else. glitzyglam, thanks for the caps. Looks like their heading back to basics? I hope? Camping and games looks to be the case. Not taht I didnt like the soccer and sports and all, but when they started doing that for the olympic special it kinda felt a little like other variety shows. Understood it was only as a special, but heading out to the locals or seeing Koreas great landscape was what appealed most about the show. Sarangaia, interesting comparison. The badminton boy is a cutie I have to admit, but our "talented" Seung Gi is still better look wise I think. Hats off to the kid though. Just can't imagine achieving greatness at such a young age. It really boggles my mind sometimes. The dedication and focus you need to get to that level is no joke. And Korea has done amazingly well at these games. Great job. Regarding the actual article itself, I hate Popseoul. Their just rude and biased to people who are popular and getting a lot of press. Rarely are they ever subjective or complimentary. Always a rude remark here and there and like this time, Seung Gi really had nothing to do with them except he happens to have a slight resemblence to an olympic athlete. Hence the need to chop him off a block cause they want to compare their "talent"? Which have nothing to do with eachother. Haters, thats what they are haters. Bleh..

Well, ending on a positive note. Good luck with school everyone who's started already. Enjoy it while lasts, cause school is one of those rare oppurtunities for your mind, soul, and body to grow. I really miss my school days and remisce all the time about how I use to study and cram with friends into all hours of the nigt, of how we would sneak pizza into the library and have a party (not a good example), or I just miss the whole routine of it all. I had not other stressors in life other than my next exam. It was awesome and I loved every bit of it. So good luck to all you girls this year and keep focus on what your goals are, but enjoy the process along the way. Yo may feel its hard to manage time, but it's all worth it in the end.

o51029: I think remakes are considered 0.5 of an album so he did have 4 albums (3 original and 2 remakes). The next one is Vol. 4 (please let it be a non-remake), but in total a career 5th album. eequeezee: November release is sooner than expected. If that's true, LSG would have released 2 albums and a digital single within one year. That sounds like a lot coming from an artist by US standards. I can only hope that the new album has the same depth, creativity and spirit as Volume 2. Still arguably the best of all his albums. I also hope that he goes back to his musical roots and be a bit more fearless in choosing the materials. Sing some rock songs perhaps. Mix up the song choices. Show us what that voice can do. I'm just hoping that it's not another album released (or released too soon) because his management wants to capitalize on his popularity. Aside from 1N2D, LSG needs to think about elevating his musical talent and career to the next level. We all know his potential; what he is capable of. We're just waiting for it to be fully realized. Ohh, I did remember reading about the Japan trip that 1N2D was contemplating back when. I think it was linked to Iljimae. So I'm not sure if it's still on.

eequeezee & sarangaia: Help. I need your opinions regarding the 2 subbed LSG concert songs that I posted. 1) Are the lyrics faithful (or at least close)? and 2) how’s my timing? Music lyrics are incredibly hard to translate and time unlike conversational piece. There are lots of manipulation to the verses so it was a challenge for me. I hope I didn’t mess up too much. You have to be brutally honest now.

But looks from the pics that they're back at it - WHEW and YAY! I think it's good that they did an episode like this considering the Olympics is on. Yesterday's episode seems to have been another episode just like the soccer one, so that's cool.

Oh by the way - the "rocking the baby" celebration in honor of LSGeun after the first goal was so cute! And then he actually got the call about his wife giving birth! And also, how funny and cool is it that the baby's name is EELBAK!?!?!?!

Well, 2006 was also the year he released a remake and album (minus digital single) so it's possible he'll do the same this year. Although in 2005 he didn't release anything whereas he did in 2007. I really hope its a labour of love and is not rushed. Do you know when he started the process of recording? I thought he said something about it on YDH's radio show.

이승기: 그때나 지금이나 마음가짐은 똑같은 것 같아요. 난 하이틴 스타다 뭐 그런걸 생각해본 적은 없고. 전 그냥 항상 '가수 이승기'라고 생각을 했기 때문에 뭔가를 구분 짓지는 않았어요. 항상 저희 선생님(이선희)을 목표로 하면서 달려왔기 때문에... 예전 마음이랑 지금 마음이랑 조금 달라진 게 있다면 욕심이 좀 더 많이 생겼고 배포도 좀 는 것 같고.. 뭘 해도 좀 더 잘하고 싶은 그런 의욕이 많이 충만해졌어요.

이승기: 네. 사실 Crazy For You같은 곡은 아주 이국적인 락이에요. 작곡해주신 분도 미국에 계시는 분이고. 곡을 처음 받았을 때. 한국에서 그런 락을 하시는 분은 없는 것 같아요. 이국적인 느낌이 강하고... 또 솔직히 말해서 기타 코드나 주법, 악곡의 세세한 부분 같은 게 외국 거랑 거의 비슷해요. 외국 곡은 기승전결이 그렇게 뚜렷하지가 않거든요. 그런 곡이어서 사실 좀 힘들었어요. 제가 하던 음악도 아니고, 또 처음으로 그런 비트를 접해봐서 녹음하는데 있어서 애도 많이 먹었죠. 또 작곡가분이 연습을 통한 향상을 강조하셔서… 그렇게 Crazy For You 같은 경우 정말 연습을 통해서 만들어진 곡입니다. (not sure what he meant here)
In fact, songs like Crazy for You is very much western rock. The composer actually lives in the States, and at the time we first got the song, there didn’t seem to be composers of this type of rock in Korea. Frankly speaking, the rendition is very similar to western music. …. As the turns and transitions in this type of western music is not very distinct, following this type of music is in fact quite hard. It’s not the type of music I’ve done before, plus it’s the first time I’ve come across such type of beat in a recording session, I really had a tough time.. …(not sure what he meant in the last part of the answer. Think it may mean the song was accomplished via a lot of practices with trials and errors and a lot of to-ing and fro-ing with the composer).

Your Feb schedule looks really crammed. During your broadcasting activities, how do you handle your fatigue?

이승기: 음...피로..를 잘 안 느껴요. 하하하... 사실 피로를 안 느끼려고 해요.(기침) 지금 걸린 감기 같은 것도 사실 라이브 때 굉장히 불안했던 적이 많은데요. 이 목소리로 부를 수 있을까 하고 주위에서 걱정해줄 정도인 경우도 있는데. 아직 데뷔한지도 얼마 안됐고 해서 그저 어떻게든 불러야겠다 하는 생각이 강해요. ‘이 노래 못 부르면 죽는구나’ 뭐 이런. 어쨌든 그렇게 불러야겠다는 생각이 있으니까 정말 본 방송 때는 확 하고 불러지더라구요?(웃음) 아무리 힘들어도. 그렇게 하고싶어서 한다는 의지가 일단 있으니깐 뭔가 피로함을 피부로 느끼는 수준까진 안가게 되더라구요.
Fatigue? I don’t really feel it. Hahaha. (Cough). In fact, I try not to feel the fatigue. A cold, like the one I have now, in fact, had many a time caused me anxiety when I’m doing live shows. Could I still sing with this voice ….what about the people around who is worried about me…. as yet, it has not been long since my debut,,,, so no matter what happen, I must sing … this sort of thinking. “If I cannot sing this song, I will die” this type of thinking. So no matter how tough it is, given this will, I don't really feel the fatigue.



dosirak: 새 앨범이 전작에 비해 파워풀해지고 남성적으로 변했다는 반응이 많습니다. 신작을 제작하면서 나름대로 세워둔 주안점 같은 게 있다면요.
There are quite a lot of responses that seem to think that this new album, compared with your previous work, shows more power and masculinity. Is this the key point you want to deliver while planning this new album?

이승기: 모든 면에서, 뭐랄까… 사실 1집이 정말 과분한 사랑을 많이 받았어요. 그래서 2집을 준비하면서는 뭔가 달라진 모습을 보여드려야겠다고 생각을 했는데 그렇게 처음으로 생각을 했던 게 이제 1집 때의 어린 목소리를 벗어야겠다는 거. 그래서 발성 연습부터 다시 했구요. 가장 핵심적인 포인트는 ‘많이 성숙해졌구나’ 하는 느낌이 들도록 하는 것이었죠. 음악적으로나 목소리로나 감정 표현으로나 그렇게. 그리고 노래를 부르면서 가장 생각을 많이 했던 것은 노래를 '진심으로' 부르자 하는 것. 사실 노래를 부르다 보면...'녹음'을 한다는 거는 몇 시간 동안 한 곡만 부르는 거잖아요. 그러다 보면 한 구절 한 구절 부를 때 불필요한 테크닉이 무의식적으로 들어가버리는 경우가 있어요. 그래서 그런걸 가급적버리고 가능하면 순수하게 내 안에서 느껴지는 감정을 끄집어내자…이렇게 생각하면서 임했습니다. All facets … how should I put it … In fact, the love I received from my 1st album is really excessive and undeserved. Therefore in preparing for the 2nd album, I have been thinking what sort of different image should I project. Thought I should discard the young voice in the 1st album and rework on my vocalization. The core point is to drive across the feel of “having matured a lot”, be it in the type of music, or my voice or the execution of emotions. In fact, when I was singing the songs, the thing that was topmost in my mind was to sing it with sincerity. (Not sure about the meaning of the next part, think it may mean: Instead of just recording the whole song in a few hours, they actually went through line by line to discard unnecessary techniques as far as possible, so that the real feeling in Seung Gi is singled out and delivered unpretentiously …. Something like that

dosirak: 모델, 탤런트 활동을 병행하고 계십니다. 가수 활동 하는 데 별다른 지장 같은 건없나요?
Your currently have modeling, talent related activities running parallel. Do they affect your activities as a singer?

이승기: 뭔가 다양한 걸 한다는 건 일단 좋은 일인 것 같아요. 철저한준비 없이 섣불리했다간 이도 저도 아니게 되는 수가 있거든요 ( ….. don’t really understand). 사실 연기는, 아직은 진짜진짜 많이 부족하지만 기회가 되면 진지하게 정말 해보고 싶어요. 어쨌든 그렇게 기회가 된다면 가수를 하면서도 드라마나 영화를 하고 싶고. 연기자 활동이 가수 활동에 꼭 지장이 된다고는 생각하지 않아요. 뭘 하든 그 순간순간에 집중해서 하면 반드시 좋은 결과가 있을 거라 생각하거든요.
The diverse activities are actually pretty good. ……not sure of the meaning…. In fact, as yet, my acting skills are really really not adequate, but if the opportunity should arise, I would really want to try it in all earnestness, be it with dramas or movies. I honestly don’t think acting activity will interfere with my singing activity. I rather tend to think that if I focus on what I am doing at that moment, the results should come out well.


dosirak: 그래도 그룹사운드 경험이 있으니 음악쪽에 더 애정love이 크지 않을까 하고 생각되는데. 실제론 어떠세요?
Even so, with your experience of a rock band, wouldn’t your passion for music be bigger?

이승기: 네. 아직까지는 음악에 대한 욕심이 더 많죠. 올라가야 될 부분도 너무 많고. 제가 지금까지는 노래만 보여줬기 때문에, 뭐 악기나 작곡, 그리고 음악성 측면에서 더 완성도 있는 모습을 보여드리고 싶고...네. 굳이 욕심으로 따지자면 제가 가수로 데뷔를 했으니까 아무래도 음악에 좀 더 애정이 가죠. 근데 연기를 하는 것도 경험적인 측면에서 음악 하는 데 도움이 많이 되는 것 같아요.
단지 음악만 해서 뮤지션이 되는 것보다… 연기도 해보고 그렇게 뭔가를 두루 해본 사람이 음악을 하는 것과 또 음악만 해왔던 사람들도 그들만의 장점이 있겠지만 여러 가지로 실제적인 감정을 많이 느껴본 사람이 만드는 음악도 꽤 좋을 거라는 생각을 해요.
As yet, up to now, my desire over music is stronger. There are still a lot of areas I need to improve on. Up to now, I’ve shown only my singing, but there are other facets in music that I want to accomplish and present too. I debuted as a singer, so no matter what, I feel more passion for music. However, acting provides other experience which should be helpful to making music. Rather than being only a musician …..I want to try out acting too. While there are strengths in people who are pure musicians, people who bring to music real life emotions can make good music as well.


dosirak: 본인이 연기자이기도 한데, 스크린 쿼터 축소 문제에 관해선 어떻게 생각하시나요?
What’s your view on the reduction of screen quota?
(Note: The Korean screen quota system, whereby it is mandatory for cinemas to screen local films for at least a certain no of days a year, is a measure adopted by the Korean government to protect the local film industry)

이승기: 저도 영화를 되게 좋아해요. 시간 나면 극장가서 영화를 보는데. 스크린 쿼터 축소에 대해서는..저도 어느 정도 반대에요. 지금처럼 한국영화가 많이 성장을 했으면 좋겠고. 그렇기 때문에 어떻게 보면 외국영화가 무수히들어오는데도 <왕의남자> 같은 게 천만 명 끌고 막 이런 게 그 쪽 종사자들에게는 굉장히 힘이 나는 일이잖아요. 그래서 이런 게 그분들이 더 열정적으로 일할 계기가 될 수도 있는 건데 여기서 딱 하고 흐름을 끊어버리면 좀 그렇죠. 또 스크린 쿼터를 늘린 것도 제가 알기론 얼마 지나지 않은 일이거든요. 제가 고등학교 다닐 때 논술문제로 나오구 막 그랬었는데. 어쨌든 그렇게 길어야 한 3년? 이정도 인데 벌써 또 축소한다 이래 버리면, 자리가 확실히 잡히지 않은 상태에서 그런 결정을 내려버리면 좀 위험해지지 않나 그렇게 생각합니다. (not sure about the meaning)
I also like movies, and if time permits, would go to cinemas to watch movies. As for the cut in screen quota, to a certain extent, I object to that as well. (Not sure if this is what the next part meant: “ It would be good if Korean movies could continue to progress like now. Then, even if there’s no limit to the entry of foreign movies, movies like “King & the Clown”could draw over 10 million audience, thus giving impetus and motivation to movie makers to retain their passion and get more opportunities. If the screen quota is reduced now, it could create obstacles to the development of the movie industry” …….. then something about the reduction has to be phased out through a longer period, otherwise it will endanger the industry …..something like that!)


dosirak: 시트콤 논스톱에서 팬들에게 아주 좋은 인상을 남겨주셨는데요. 연기자로서 그때의 활동을 잠시 뒤돌아본다면 어떤 생각이 드시나요.
In sitcom Non-stop, you left a very good impression with fans. As an actor, if you reflect on your activities then, what comes to mind?

이승기: 많이 배웠어요. 정말 많이 배웠고. 시트콤을 하면서 제가 갖고 있던 많은 선입견이나 편견, 혹은 몸의 자세 같은 데서 경직적인 부분이 많이 풀렸었고.. 또 연기를 한다는 건 사람의 감정을 표현하는 거니까..제가 부족했던, 감정 표현하는 것도 많이 배웠구요. 항상 가수는 무대에 혼자 올라가서 자기 안의 것만 보여주잖아요. 반면 연기는 일곱 명 여덟 명이서 한 호흡을 맞춰서.. 욕심을 부리면 안 되는 거니까. 또 나만 잘한다고 되는 게 아니니까. 그런걸 많이 배웠죠. 호흡하는 장면이나 뭐 그런.
I learned a lot, really a lot. Through the experience, I learned that I carried a lot of preconception or prejudices. It also helped me improve my physical posture and loosen some of my stiffness. Also, acting involves expression of feelings, an area I was inadequate in, and I learned a lot. As a singer, on stage, you only think of how to manifest yourself. But in acting, working with 7 or 8 people together, one has to breathe the same pace as everyone else. There’s no place for self interest; it’s not as if you can perform on your own … things like these …. I learned a lot.


dosirak: 좋아하는 음악 장르와 즐겨 듣는 앨범(뮤지션)이 있다면?
What is your favorite music genre and which album (musician) do you enjoy listening to?

이승기: 모던락 계열을 되게 좋아해요. 사실 제가 보컬이니까 보컬 사운드가 좀 강한 쪽을 선호하기도 하구요.
I like modern rock. Since I’m a singer, I prefer stronger vocals


Dosirak: 예를 들면요?
For example?

이승기: 예전에는 브라이언 아담스(Bryan Adams)를 되게 좋아했었구요. 스팅(Sting)은 정말 너무 좋아해요. 공연도 가봤었는데 너무 좋았어요. 그렇게 스팅은 정말 특별한 존재고. 또 버티컬 호라이즌(Vertical Horizon). 이번에 작곡가 분이 추천해주시기도 한 그룹인데 그 친구들도 아주 좋아요. 또..미국의 후바스탱크(Hoobastank). 그런 류 의 음악도 괜찮구요.
In the past, I liked Bryan Adams. I really like Sting a lot. Been to his concert and like it very much. Sting is really special. I also like Vertical Horizon. They were recommended to me by a composer, and I like the group a lot. Also Hoobastank from the States….. this type of music.


dosirak: 어제 오아시스(Oasis)가 내한 공연을 했었는데 혹시 가보셨나요?
Yesterday Oasis performed here. Did you go to their concert?

이승기 어...저런. 못 가봤어요.(웃음) 제가 작년인가 영국에서 오아시스랑 마룬 파이브(Maroon 5)랑 함께 공연을 한다 이래 가지고 한번 가보고 싶었어요. 사실 영국 자체도 꼭 한번 가보고 싶었거든요. 하여튼 오아시스를 굉장히 좋아하는데, 이런…어제 왔었군요.
Good heavens! Could not go. (laughter) Since last year when Oasis and Maroon 5 performed together in the UK, I have always wanted to go their concert. In fact, I definitely want to go to the UK once, even if it’s all by myself. Anyways, I really like Oasis. So… they came yesterday!

dosirak: 가장 닮고 싶은 사람이 있다면요. 존경할만한 사람 같은..
Who do you most want to be like. Eg people you respect a lot …

이승기: 스팅! 뮤지션들에게 존경 받는 뮤지션 같은 그런 사람요. 그리고 다양성 있는 음악을 하는 사람, 그러니까 단순히 가수라는 이미지를 떠나서 자신만의 자연스런 ‘포스’ 같은 게 있는 사람. 그런 사람들이 존경스럽죠.
Sting! A musician who gets a lot of respect from other musicians. Also, people who works on diverse types of music; people who can leave behind the image of a singer and yet maintain a confident and natural pose. These type of people are worthy of respect.



dosirak: 자신이 생각하는 라이벌이 있다면요?
Who would you consider as your rival?

이승기: 라이벌은 없어요. 라이벌은 없고. 왜 없냐면 무대에 서면 어떤 가수가 서든지 간에 일반인은 못 느끼는 저마다의 장점 같은 게 나타나거든요.
누구나 다 다른. 이효리씨도 그렇고 테이씨도 그렇고. 그렇게 라이벌’이라기보다는 그 사람들만이 가지고 있는 카리스마나 개성 있는 장점들을 많이 보려고 해요. 그래서 뭐 라이벌은, 제가 아직 라이벌이 있을 군번도 못되고.(웃음)
There isn’t any. If you ask me why, every singer who stands on stage shows his/her strengths which differs one from another.. Lee Hyrori is like that …. Tei is like that etc etc. Rather than saying they are rivals, they all have their own charisma, personality which they intend to show. As for me, I don’t even think that I qualify as being a rival (laughter).



dosirak: 한 인터넷 포털 사이트에서 주관하는 책 읽기 캠페인에 자발적으로 참여한 것으로 알고 있습니다. 평소에 독서를 즐기는 편이신가요.
From one portal site, it’s known that you once read a book on a certain subject and subsequently took the initiative of participating in a campaign. Seems like you enjoy reading.

이승기: 지금은 가끔 밖에 못하구요. 사실 제가 책이 되게 읽고 싶어요.(웃음) 이게 표현이 맞는지는 모르겠는데 하여튼 읽고 싶어하는 사람이에요. 시간이 안 되서라기보다 제가 게을러서 안 읽는 거라고 해야 되는데(웃음). 책을, 좋은 책을 많이 사요. 시간을 내서 한번에 몽땅 다 읽어버리고 그런 건 아닌데 제가 서점가서 직접 보면서 책 사는걸 되게 좋아하거든요. 내가 정말 좋아하는 작가들을 찾아보기도 하고.
These days, I have very little time to do reading. In fact, I want to read more (laughter). Don’t know whether this is the right thing to say. Anyways, I do want to read. Rather than saying I don’t have the time, it’s more like I’m lazy (laughter). I have bought many books. It’s not as if I could finish reading all of them, but I like going to bookstores, see the books for myself and buy them. I also look for writers that I like.



dosirak: 도시락에 십대 이용자 분들이 많습니다. 청소년기에 감명 깊게 읽었던 책을 한 권 정도만 추천해 주신다면.
“Lunchbox” (guess it’s the name of a book or writer) seems to have a lot of readers in their teens. Can you recommend to teenagers a book that you have read which impressed you a lot?

이승기: 음…하퍼 리(Harper Lee)의 앵무새 죽이기(To Kill a Mockingbird)를 인상 깊게 읽었던 기억이 있습니다.

dosirak: 혹시 다룰 줄 아는 악기가 있으신가요.
Is there an instrument that you can play well

이승기: 뭐 잘 다룬다고 할만한 악기는 아직 없구요. 제가 좋아해서 취미로 배우고 있는 악기는 일렉기타. 외국 공연들을 보면서, 제가 사실 춤을 출 줄 모르기 때문에 나는 그것 말고 뭘 해야 할까 생각하다가 그렇게 잡게 됐습니다. 제가 언젠가 뭐 그게 조만간 되든 한참 뒤가 되든 꼭 한번 무대 위에서 악기를 다뤄봤으면 하는 꿈은 있어요.
There’s none that I can play really well. My interest has led me to learn to play the electric guitar. While watching western concerts, since I can’t really dance, I thought to myself, dance aside, what else could I work on, and hence picked this. It’s my dream that one day eventually, I’ll be able to really perform with an instrument, at least once, on stage.



dosirak: 고교시절 밴드활동을 하신 것으로 아는데요. 당시 포지션은 무엇이었고 주로 어떤 장르의 음악을 연주했나요.
In your high school days, you were in a band. What position did you take up and what genre of music did you perform

이승기 포지션은 물론 보컬이었구요. 장르는 하드 락적인 것을 많이 했어요. 스키드 로우(Skid Row)나 스트라이퍼(Stryper), 혹은 반 헤일런(Van Halen) 같은..지금도 그런 음악들을 많이 들어요. 그때로선..사실 이게 좀 올드한 음악이잖아요. 그래서 지금은 모던modern락이나 얼터너티브alternative 음악을 많이 듣기도 하구요.
I was the singer.. As for genre, we played a lot of hard rock. Skid Row or Stryper or Van Halen type. Up to now, I still listen to this type of music a lot. Actually, they are more like oldies now. These days, I also listen a lot to modern rock or alternative music.



dosirak: 당시 멤버들하고는 지금도 연락을 하고 지내는지.
Are you still in contact with your band members these days?

이승기: 네. 다는 못하고, 그때 베이스 치던 친구를 얼마 전에 방송국에서 봤어요. 봐서 '어, 너..' 그러면서 놀랬는데 이수영 선배 베이스 세션event으로 있다고 그러더라구요.(웃음) 그렇게..당시 멤버들 지금 다 음악쪽으로 잘 해나가고 있는 걸고 알고 있습니다.
Yes, but not all. Not long ago, I met our bass player friend at the TV station. He was playing for Senior Lee Soo Yeong’s Best Event. In fact, all our members are engaged in music related work these days.


dosirak: 와~ 그 정도면 당시 밴드 실력이 굉장히 좋았을 것 같은데요.
Wow! Judging from this, your band must have been pretty good.

이승기: 하하…뭐 저희 동네에선 유명했죠.
Haha. We were famous in our neighborhood then.



dosirak: 현영씨가 ‘내 여자라니까’의 답가로 가수 데뷔를 하겠다고 공개적으로 선언declare했습니다. 이승기씨도 매우 기대하고 있는 것으로 아는데 막상 노래가 공개되면 어떻게 대응해주실 예정인지.
Ms Hyun Yeong has declared that she is embarking on her debut as a singer because of “You are my Woman” and that Lee Seung Gi is really looking forward to this? When her song eventually comes out, what sort of response have you planned for?

이승기: 하하. 뭐 대응이랄 게 있겠나요. 현영씨가 제 노래에 대한 답가를 해주신다고 하면 저야 고맙죠. 그만큼 제 노래가 많이 알려졌다는 얘기일테니까 그런 건 참 고맙고. 그리고 현영씨는 만능 엔터테이너시니까. 가수라는 게 또 새로운 도전이니만큼 전 기쁘게 생각하고 또 격려(激勵)를 해드리고 싶죠.
Haha. What response. I am thankful that Ms Hyun Yeong has thought it fit to build on my song. This actually gives my song a lot of promotion. Also, Ms Hyun Yeong is a multi-faceted entertainer. I am happy to think of her taking up yet another challenge, and I’d like to send her my best wishes.



dosirak : 언론에 “이상형은 남상미, 결혼상대partner는 구혜선Goo Hye Son”이라고 보도된 적이 있었는데요. 어떻게 된건가요. (웃음)
There have been reports that you said your ideal type of woman is Lam Sang Mi and ideal marriage partner is Goo Hye Sun.

이승기: (웃음) 아..네. 그게 한 토크쇼에서였는데요. 거기서 이승기와 연기한 여자 분들이 사진으로 나온 거에요. 한 다섯분 정도 나왔는데 거기서 막 이상형, 결혼상대 이렇게 뽑으래니까.(웃음) 어쩔 수가 없잖아요. 그래서 그때는 뭐 진지한 분위기로 했던 건 아니었어요. 그리고 동료 연기자로서 남상미씨와 구혜선씨는 정말 존경할 만큼 좋은 분들이시죠.
(laughter) Ah, yes. That was at one talk show. At that show, my photo was shown with those of 5 female entertainers, and I was asked to pick my ideal type for a relationship and for marriage (laughter). The atmosphere then was not at all serious. Also, as fellow entertainers, I really respect Ms Lam Sang Mi and Ms. Goo Hye Sun.


dosirak: 반항적이고 남성적인 캐릭터를 연기해보고 싶다고 밝힌 바 있습니다. 평소에도 남성적인 코드를 좋아하는 편인가요.
You have revealed that you want to play characters which are rebellious and masculine. Do you normally like a more masculine code (unsure of meaning)??


이승기: 네. 남성적인 것 좋아요. <달콤한 인생>같은 느와르 장르의 영화를 되게 좋아하거든요. 그에 반해서 <러브 액츄얼리>같은 휴먼 코메디 장르를 또 좋아하기도 하구요. 그런 따뜻한 것들도 좋아하는데, ‘연기를 해보고싶다’는 걸로 친다면 제가 사실 그 동안 해왔던 게 조금은 모범생적인 이미지, 착한 이미지였는데 이제는 그런 걸 좀 벗어나서 반항아적이고 마초적인 연기도 한번 해보고 싶다… 뭐 그래서 그런 말이 나오게 된 것 같습니다.
Yes, masculinity is good. I like the film noir genre like “Bittersweet Life” . On the other hand, I also like humorous comedies like “Love Actually” I also like heartwarming movies. If I want to be in acting, I need to discard some of my current image of being a model student, a nice guy. That’s why I said I wanted to play roles which are rebellious and macho.



dosirak: 절친intimate하게 지내는 동료 연예인들로는 누가 있나요.
Which fellow entertainers are you more intimate with?

이승기: 김종국씨나.. 종국이 형은 제가 되게 좋아하는 형이에요. 남자답고 잘 챙겨주시고..최근 활동하는 사람들 중엔 플라이 투 더 스카이(Fly To The Sky) 형들...이 정도 요.
Kim Jong Kook … he is a hyung (older brother) that I like a lot. Very manly, and takes good care of me. Recently, among the people I work with, Fly to the Sky hyungs (Brian & Fany).



dosirak: 1집에서 결정적 역할을 해 준 싸이, 신해철씨 하고는 지금도 자주 연락하시는지?
Are you still in contact with the key players in your 1st album - Psy and Shin Hye Chul?

이승기: 아니 그게… 제가 휴대폰이 없어요.(웃음) 휴대폰이 없어서. 싸이 형하고는 가끔씩 다른 전화 같은 걸로 연락을 주고받고 해요. 예전에 신인상 받고 할 때 그때 고맙다고 인사도 자주 드리고 그랬는데. 최근엔 그분들도 개인적인 앨범 작업하고 바쁘시고 해서… 예전만큼 활발하게 연락을 하고 지내지는 못해요.
No… and it’s because I don’t have a cell phone (laughter). Since I don’t have a cell phone, from time to time, Psy hyung and I called each other via another phone. Back when I got my Best New Singer award, I have always expressed my gratitude. Recently, they are both working on their personal albums and are very busy. So our contact has become more inactive.



dosirak: 그래도 이승기씨만의 개인적인 사생활이란 게 있을 텐데 핸드폰이 없으면 불편하지 않나요.
Nevertheless, even if it’s just for your private life, don’t you feel that it’s inconvenient not to have a cell phone?


이승기 네... 많은 분들이 그렇게 생각을 하실건데. 그게 휴대폰이 없어서 편한 경우가 되게 많아요. 항상 있는걸 없애기가 겁이 나는 부분이 있어서 그렇지 막상 없어 보면 되게 편하거든요? 뭐 대부분 생활이 불가능할 거다 이렇게 생각할텐데 (not sure what he meant). 뭐 그런 불편함 같은 건 전혀 느끼지를 못합니다. 물론 언젠가는 만들어야겠죠. 근데 1집부터 쭉 없어왔기 때문에(웃음) 사실 또 특별히 만들 계기 같은 것도 없었구요.
Many people think that way. Actually, there are lots of conveniences for not having a cell phone. If you don’t have something, you have no fear of losing it (not sure if this is what he’s implying) In any case, I honestly don’t feel any inconvenience. I’m not saying that it may not happen some day. But from the time of my 1st album, there doesn’t seem to be any special reason for me to get it.


이승기 사실 처음에는 MP3라는 그런 게 나왔을 때 제 몸으로 실감을 하지를 못했어요. 음반시장이 얼마나 불황인가 하는 뭐 그런. 왜냐하면 1집 때는 가수 활동 자체를 처음 하는 게 되가지구 모든 게 어수선해서 음반시장에 대한 흐름이랄까 뭐 그런걸 파악할 정황이 없었어요. 근데 2집에 와서..앨범 판매보다 불법 다운이나 이런 게 많아지는 현상을 보니 되게..답답하긴 해요 사실. 왜냐면 가수는 정말 힘들게 만들잖아요. 녹음하는 매 순간순간 자신의 한계를 계속 뛰어넘어 가야 되고. 또 녹음실 앞에선 항상 긴장된 자세로 있을 수 밖에 없고..그렇게 1년 혹은 1년 6개월을 충분히 준비하고 또 고생해서 13곡이라는 결과물이 나오는 거거든요. 그런데 그런 앨범의 가치가 불법적인 형식으로 훼손 되버리면 저희들로서도 좀 답답하죠. MP3든 CD든 형태는 상관없지만 최근처럼 무방비로, 불법적이고 광범위하게 다운로드가 된다는 건 좀... 그렇죠. 저도 MP3플레이어를 사용을 하는데. 일단 가수 CD를 사서 그걸 리핑한 걸로 듣거든요. 그리고 또 MP3랑 앨범은 분명히 차이가 있어요. 앨범을 사게 되면 그 앨범에 대한 심층적인 정보 같은 걸 많이 알 수가 있거든요. 음악 하나를 들어도 가사나 악기 세션이라든가 뭐 그런 걸 볼 수가 있으니까... 외국 뮤지션의 앨범 같은 경우는 항상 평론지가 한 장 실리 더라구요. 그런 것도 도움이 되게 많이 되구.

ivey79 - yeah! I agree. As fun as the olympics specials are.. I miss the ya-saeng (haha, savage) trips. ewww, but even just the word gganari makes me gag a little. lol, my sister and watched 4 old episodes of 1N2D on our plane ride here, and we couldn't stop laughing. Other people must have thought we were psycho. One of the episodes was the one with the new PD and we were falling over laughing when they were doing their CHICKEN FIGHT. I felt a bit bad because the guy next to me was sleeping, but really couldn't stifle my laughter. ^^;;
And the marathon with the gganari..... LOL. that was another episode with nonstop laughter.

Yeah, school starts at the end of September for me, so I'm just having a mini-vacation before I start college -___-;;
okay, I'm so DUMB though. of all the things to leave out when packing... I left my camera at home. I took it out of my bag to charge it, and just left it at home.
luckily my sister brought her camera though.. so I guess I'll be stealing it for awhile? haha If I do manage to see him though, I shall send you my files! thanks


eequeezee - heyyyy yeah, so I figured his schedule would be really light, so I'm still looking things up. This PD is a family friend, and he said he would try and help out, but I'm not so sure yet.
