Most "romance" stuff through X-Man are all scripted. The stars have all these "romances" that are all directed by the producers and directors. So most likely he's just acting like that because the director/producer is telling him to do that. Just because they need a replacement.

I posted a topic a few days ago, but people were being idiots and mod thought it best to close it. He said it might be best if I brought it up in here.

So, I downloaded and listened to Lee Seung Ki's album about a week ago and I noticed the first half of 가면 (Track 5) sounds EXACTLY like This Love by Maroon 5.
I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt, so could anybody here who has actually bought the album check and see if the band is credited or something?

Well..I'd be quite disappointed in Lee Seung Ki if it turned out his music turned out to be plagiarized because I do enjoy it.

^I'd love to help you out but I haven't bought his second album yet. But I think if it turned out to be actually plagiarized, we should blame the songwriters not Lee seung Gi. Same thing with Lee Hyori's case.

But when I get the album, and if its not too late, I'll check it out.

WEll.. he found out about the similarities too and he felt bad about it. He didn't realise that it was the same music as Maroon Five's song. Not sure what happens now though the most they can do is credit MAroon Five. Anyways, this issue has been brought up before in the other threads so I think it is best to leave it be.

Just so the whole deal with lee seung gi and his song 가면 doesn't turn into speculation and guessing... here's the news about that... Just like nonwinky said, the issue about this song was not plagiarism but sampling... And yes, everyone wants to stop talking about it, but I think it's best if we get the facts straight first...

"가면" the plagiarism aftermath and the desire to get approval...

It basically says that Lee Seung Gi & producers sampled Maroon five's song, and that KMPA and BMG finally solved the whole copyright issue and obtained the permission to use the sample from the producers of "this love."
A spokesman from Lee Seung Gi said, " Yes, 가면 has similarities to "This love", but it's not plagiarism but sampling, and we have gotten from the producers of "this love" permission to use it."

KMPA states that using international melody, lyrics, rhythm without permission, that is called plagiarism. But if you ask permission and pay the necessary fees to the producers of a song, then it's called sampling...

However, in '가면' appeared in the album and was sold, and after it's release the credits to the producers of "this love" appeared and the permission was obtained... which makes this song not a sampling... (sorry my translation is bad... it basically means that instead of getting the necessary permission and paying fees to use the song before the whole album was released, Lee Seung Gi's producers obtained them after the song was already in the market for sale... perhaps the request and the whole deal was in progress when the album was released... that's why maybe the whole idea of plagiarism came up)

BMG says that because the producers of "this love" came up with an agreement, an understanding with Lee Seung Gi's producers, '가면' got it's necessary approval and quick agreements were made btw both parties... everything was managed and turned out well...

Lee Seung Gi's spokesman says, " 'this love' was a song that we always wanted to use and the composer from the beginning agreed to use the song and ask for permission from the original producers/composers... regardless of the money or the time it would take to make the necessary legal arrangements... It was just a matter of timing, that we didn't get permission from the original producers on a right time (meaning before the album was released)..."

They have put in other news too that because Lee Seung Gi's song featured a "musical sampling", a composing skill using some part of the original song as motive, there was a quick settlement with the composer of "this love.."

this just shows that lee seung gi's producers are slow, but they managed things... cuz I believe lee seung gi is too smart to put a song in his album or even sing a plagiarized song... they got the permission, which is what matters now... like they say better late than never...

이승기 의 '가면'도 표절 후 저작권 사용승인을 받은 것으로 드러났다.
이에 따라 이 노래에 대한 저작권 지분 100%는 마룬5의 'This Love' 원저작자에게 속하게 됐다.
31일 ㈔음악출판사협회(KMPA)와 BMG뮤직퍼블리싱 등에 따르면 이승기 측은 '가면'이 수록된 2집 음반을 발매한 뒤 이 노래에 대한 저작권 이용 허락을 받았다.
이승기의 소속사는 지난달 초 발매 직후 '가면'의 도입부가 'This Love'의 도입부와 비슷하다는 지적이 제기되자 "표절이 아닌 샘플링으로 원저작자에게 정당한 대가를 지불했다"고 밝힌 바 있다.
KMPA에 따르면 표절은 원곡의 멜로디, 가사, 리듬, 편곡 방식 등을 사전 허락 없이 가져다 쓰는 모든 행위를 말하며 사전에 KMPA나 음악저작권협회를 통해 원저작자의 저작권 이용 허락을 받을 경우 정당한 샘플링으로 인정된다.
그러나 '가면'의 경우와 같이 음반까지 발매한 뒤 수록곡에 대한 원저작자의 사후 승인을 받는 것은 샘플링으로 인정되지 않는다.

BMG뮤직퍼블리싱 관계자는 "'This Love'의 원저작자가 '가면'에 대한 저작권 100%를 갖는 조건으로 사용 승인을 내줬기 때문에 '가면'의 모든 저작권 지분이 원저작자에게 속하게 된다"고 말했다.
이에 대해 이승기의 소속사는 "처음부터 'This Love'를 샘플링해 만들기로 작곡가와 이야기했고 해당 비용도 미리 지불했으나 작곡가가 원저작자에게 승인을 받는 시기가 늦어져 문제가 발생했다"고 설명했다.

ahhh! I just dled and watched the show ^---. Lee Seung gi's english is pretty good, i mean it's not as fluent but you can still understand him. The way he speaks english is just soo cute, i keep rewinding back to his part. ^^ I watch two episodes with him so far, i hope he'll be on there more ^^

I didn't really like him in the beginning...like when he would come out on Brain Survivor...known as the young smart kid who can sing.

Finally, I listened to his songs and FELL IN LOVE! I totally underestimated him. His songs are GREAT! His powerful voice! And he's still young, so his voice can only improve!!

I finally sat down to listen to his whole album and for some reason I couldn't tell it was him. He has really mature and his voice has mature as well. I also like how he goes into different genre because he has a rapper in one of his song kekeke.

Hey thanks for resolving the issue.
But I must say, the more likely story is that Lee Seung Ki's producers didn't get permission to use the song and plagiarized it anyway, forcing the Maroon 5 songwriters to give in, give permission and take the money rather than go through the whole international legal process to get back at some nobodys in some small country far away.
Trust me, I have experience with Korean businessmen (albeit limited) and this is the exact kind of thing they would do.
