On his delivery of the role of Hwan:
Seung Gi commented that at the beginning, there was feedback from some viewers that they were unable to immerse in the drama because of his acting. He thought it could be due to his excessive desire to do well that the danger arose. From then onwards, he adjusted his acting. Long time no post in here. eloise and yon: thank you for SGi article. I've been looking for the interview for a while now.

My my, just came in to babble a bit about SGi. I'm all caught up with BL (thanks to the Viikii subbers). We are close to 2/3 way done with the drama and I've thoroughly enjoyed watching it. When is taken in context, as in the genre that this drama is in, BL has turned out to be a pleasant surprise for me. Although the drama is not anything ground breaking or extraordinary, BL still manages to be entertaining and charming in its own way. There are parts of the drama that still scream cliche and make me sigh in a big way. And then there are other parts that connect with me. I know that BL prided itself on using the traditional Kdrama plot. Which I think is really hard to do. To recycle old elements and make them fresh and appealing for the masses is not easy. Even harder than to start with an original script. The sparkling chemistry between HHJ and LSGi no doubt is what makes the drama appealing IMO. So hats off to the young cast eh?

Seung Gi embraces Hwan so well. I love how he portrays the character. Unapologetically brusque and consistent. There has not been a moment in the drama that the character deviates from how I think he should react and act. Which I'm not sure is a compliment to Seung Gi or the writer. But since I'm bias, I will give the credit to Seung Gi. hahaha. Although I have to admit that I am growing weary of the hand-clinching acting method. The hand clinching anger management bit is pretty much as a result of the director so please Mr. PD, give Hwan a stress ball or something. There are some moments that you can see LSGi acting out his lines. And then there are others that totally have me grinning from ear to ear knowing that he nailed the scenes. I give him lots of props for doing quite well in making Hwan a stand out from a lot of K-drama leading characters. I imagine that it was not easy to take the risk. Full credit going out to the writer/PD and for Seung Gi for making it happened.

As I watched E17-18, I felt like I'm finally seeing LSGi the actor. Not the singer, not the variety show personality. It really is a good thing.

EDIT: Oh I forgot. We must burn the scarves and incarcinate his stylist. The hair is atrocious. The scarves are unforgivable. There was an article in Daum today by a hair stylist who was advising people on how to get the Hwan look. ahahahaha. OMG. funny. I'm just hoping that the heavy top toupee look is part of his character. Something along the line of heavy-heart-sullen-unattractive Hwan who will be enlighten and make attractive once he is reformed by the girl that he loves. His hair on 1n2d is not that bad so I'm pretty sure that this is done on purpose. Scarves must not be allowed to spawn anymore.

Based on the 1n2d thread, 1n2d (not counting Are You Ready?) with the original cast started Aug 5, 2007.
While 1n2d with the current 6 members was shown Dec 9, 2007 (Ep 31) this was when MC Mong was the last to join the team.

Let's see if I do my math correctly, we are seeing E19-20 aired this weekend. They usually film 1-2 episodes ahead (if they are on schedule) so I'm guessing they have already filmed E21-22. The spoiler of the kiss seems to suggest that they have. BL last airing date is July 26. So BL filming should slow down by July19 or so. His digital single is Mnet #4 right now. There's a possibility of seeing him on 2nd week of July if the song makes it to the top 3. Maybe he will do a MCM thing and perform just one time on either MuBank or Mnet. He can't win No. 1 without performing. It happened before to SNSD but I doubt if LSGi can do it. I think viewer voting on MuBank is 10% of the total score.

I will miss BL when the drama ends but am happy that LSGi will finally have the chance to rest. Knowing the guy, he may even step up his single promotion once the drama ends. LOL.

"I would have kindly accepted the response if i hadn`t put any efforts in the drama, but i actually worked really hard on it tho. And it was back with a shock" he said. In my opinion, his acting`s good. When watching BL, I couldn`t think of the seung gi in 1n2d or the seung gi on stage, People are too harsh, when he`s trying to do his best in everything he`s doing.

BL is Seung Gi's first leading role. Seung Gi did need time to warm up. So did the drama. For me, the first 4-5 episodes were shaky; plot wise and acting wise. You really need to have an open mind and patience to stick with BL. I think LSGi popularity is a double edged sword. He's already burdened with responsibility from the start to prove that he indeed can act. I think it's fair to say the HHJ was more visible during the first 6 episodes. It's Eun Sung who starts the story so most of the screen time was hers. She did and still is doing a splendid job. Seung Gi was learning and truly appeared slightly rough around the edges in the earlier scenes. Slightly overacted then. If the comments were made in regard to those scenes then I think they are fair. What I thought made Seung Gi a very promising actor is that he adjusted his acting fairly quickly and convincingly as the drama moves on. Now, his method is more refined. The moves are more subtle and less exaggerated. There are more variations to the way he expresses Hwan's inner thoughts. The plot has moved in the last 4-6 episodes in relation to Hwan's story. He sets the pace for the story. I suspect the drama will now swing back its focus on the inheritance before delving more into the ES/Hwan relationship. Seung Gi did a great job opening up Hwan when the spotlight was on him; winning over a couple of new fans in the process. IMO, Seung Gi has lots of screen presence. The camera loves him. I thought he has good control of facial expressions; especially his eyes. He reminds of a young Jae Hee in DGCH. The truck scene in E18 is thumbs up.

I usually don't get upset over fan comments. I like how Seung Gi handled the situation. He turns the criticisms into something positive, making the adjustments when is needed. It shows a lot of maturity, mental toughness and smart. If he has won everyone over so easily, the experience would not have been as full.

he has anti-fans now?hehehe...maybe these are the people who are very critical with the way he's acting Hwan's character and not the anti-fans who see nothing but faults in anything LSG does..I agree with bee that if it's the first few episodes (the fans are criticizing LSG for), I think it is fair..however, these past few episodes LSGi really warmed up and showed that he owned Hwan's character and I guess they are appreciating him now..I believe Seung Gi will handle this criticisms well, he is a smart man and mature person

최근 디지털싱글 '결혼해줄래'를 발표하며 모처럼 음악 활동에 기지개를 편 이승기에 대해 '트리플 크라운'을 기대하는 팬들 역시 적지 않다. 욕심이라면 욕심이지만, 출연 드라마와 예능에서 모두 30%를 넘나드는 시청률을 기록하고 있는 만큼, 그리 되지 못하란 법도 없다.

이처럼 연기면 연기, 예능이면 예능 다양한 분야에서 뛰어난 성과를 보여주고 있기 때문에 '못하는 게 없다'는 얘기도 받고 있지만, 역으로 '어느 한 분야에 특출나지 않다'는 얘기도 적잖이 들려온다.

(서울=연합뉴스) 윤고은 기자 = "시청률이 30%를 넘었을 때는 마냥 신났어요. 그런데 35%까지 넘어서니까 좀 달라지더라고요. 부담감, 책임감이 밀려오면서 그때부터는 마음을 비워야 끝까지 잘해낼 수 있을 것 같다는 생각이 들었습니다."
지난 21일은 이승기(22)에게 아마 최고의 일요일이 아니었을까 싶다. 오후 7시대 방송된 KBS 2TV '해피선데이-1박2일'이 시청률 30%를 넘어선 데 이어, 3시간 뒤 방송된 SBS TV 드라마 '찬란한 유산'의 시청률은 35%를 넘어섰기 때문이다.

사실 '찬란한 유산' 초반에만 해도 그는 연기력 논란에 휩싸였다. "1박2일의 인기를 업고 캐스팅됐다", "1박2일의 '허당'과 비슷하다"는 등의 지적이 나왔다. 그러나 그는 이를 3~4회 만에 극복하는 데 성공, 드라마를 보는 시청자들에게 더이상 '허당'이 아닌 '선우환'으로 우뚝 일어섰다.
24일 오후 경기 탄현 SBS 제작센터에서 이승기를 만났다. 그는 사랑받아 에너지 넘치는 밝고 건강한 청년의 모습이었다.


"멜로의 힘이 큰 것 같아요. 환과 은성(한효주 분), 준세(배수빈)의 3각 관계가 탄력을 받으면서 시청률이 더 오른 것 같아요. 저 자신도 요즘 대본을 받아보면 절로 떨려요. 감정 이입이 되니까요."
최근 멜로 라인을 강조한 '찬란한 유산'은 그중에서도 삐딱하고 까칠하기만 했던 환이 은성에 대한 사랑에 눈을 뜨면서 갈등하고 변해가는 모습에 초점을 맞추고 있다.
"멜로는 역시 어려워요. 아주 미묘한 부분까지 표현해야 하거든요. 손동작 하나, 눈 마주침 하나마다 어떻게 하느냐에 따라 느낌이 너무 다르죠. 그래서 다른 연기보다 더 준비도 많이 하는데, 연습을 딱히 할 수 없다는 것이 문제예요. 키스 연기를 앞두고 누구를 붙잡고 키스 연습을 할 수도 없잖아요. (웃음) 또 살면서 별로 할 것 같지 않은 애틋한 대사들을 하게 되는데 그런 대사들을 어떻게 하면 느끼하지 않게, 입에 붙게 하느냐도 관건입니다. 세세한 부분까지 정말 많이 고민하면서 연기하고 있어요."




그가 연기하는 환은 한마디로 아쉬울 것 없이 자라 고마움이나 미안함을 모르는 청년이었다. "특별히 갖고 싶었던 것이 없었다"는 대사처럼 그는 모든 것에 심드렁했고 심지어 고등학교 시절부터 자신만을 바라본 예쁜 후배 승미(문채원)에게조차 별다른 감정을 느끼지 못했다.

"사실 현실에서는 말도 안 되죠. 승미 같은 여자를 단순히 동생으로 생각할 남자가 어디 있을까요.(웃음) 하지만 드라마니까 환은 승미를 그렇게 대할 수 있는 것 같아요. 환처럼 사는 사람이 있다면 그에게는 사랑도 결혼도 중요하지 않을 거예요. 부족한 것 없이 살던 녀석이 아버지의 죽음을 목도한 후에는 마음까지 닫아버리면서 무미건조하게 살게 된 거죠."
그런 환이 캔디형의 똑순이 은성에게 무너지고 있는 중이다. 자신도 근원을 알 수 없는 마음속의 끌림으로 그는 요즘 극심한 혼돈 상태다.

"환이는 요즘 이러지도 저러지도 못하는 상태입니다. 고민과 갈등이 심하죠. 그런데 이번 주말 촬영할 동해 크루즈 여행을 계기로 환도 은성에게 적극적으로 다가가게 됩니다. 그 과정에서 멋진 모습도 보여주게 되는데, 제가 잘 소화해낼지 모르겠어요.(웃음)"




어떤 질문을 던져도 마치 준비된 듯 막힘없이 대답을 쏟아낸 이승기는 '허당'도 아니었고 '까칠남'도 아니었다. 반듯한 '스마트 보이'였다. 특히 노래와 연기에 관한 대목에서는 영리함이 번득였다.

"사실 환은 처음에는 매력적인 부분을 찾아보기 어려운 캐릭터였어요. 단선적이고 툭하면 화를 내는 아이였죠. 하지만, 대본에다 조미료를 치는 것이 배우의 몫이라고 생각해 이런저런 장치를 조금씩 하기 시작했어요. 그랬더니 귀여운 구석도 생기고 좀 부드럽게도 보이면서 환의 매력이 살아나게 된 것 같아요."
2004년 1집을 내고 가수로 데뷔한 그는 당시 MBC TV 시트콤 '논스톱'에 얼굴을 내민 데 이어, 2006년 KBS 2TV '소문난 칠공주'를 거쳐 '찬란한 유산'에서 주인공을 꿰찼다.
"연기에 대해서는 아무런 생각이 없었어요. 하고 싶다는 생각도 못했고 소질이나 재능이 있다고도 생각 못했죠. 물론 지금도 재능은 없죠. 그런데 소속사 사장님이 데뷔 때부터 '언젠가는 연기를 병행하게 될 것'이라며 끊임없이 연기에 대한 대비를 시키셨어요. 연기는 절대 한순간에 되는 것이 아니기 때문에 꾸준히 준비하고 있어야 한다는 것이었죠. 시트콤에 출연할 때는 그야말로 최악이었어요. 대본을 해석하는 능력 자체가 없었으니까요. 그런데 시간이 지나면서 부족할지라도 어떻게든 해야겠다는 생각이 들었고, 나름대로 준비를 해 조금씩 성과를 보면서 연기의 재미와 보람을 깨닫게 됐습니다."
그는 "왜 다들 드라마를 하고 싶어하는지 알겠다"는 말로 앞으로도 계속 노래와 연기를 병행하겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.

"가수는 무대 위에서 폭발력을 갖고, 있는 그대로의 모습을 보여준다면 배우는 가상의 드라마에서 신비스럽게 그려지면서 환상을 줄 수 있는 것 같아요. 연기가 뭔지는 여전히 모르지만, 연기가 재미있는 것만큼은 확실해요."
"드라마 초반에 일어난 연기력 논란을 극복했다는 것이 무엇보다 뿌듯하다"는 그는 "이 드라마를 통해 '저 친구가 계속 연기를 하겠구나!'라는 생각이 들도록, 배우로서의 가능성을 꼭 증명해 보이고 싶다"고 힘줘 말했다.

actually i find his acting in the beginning episodes ok, not exaggerating...maybe not so stable or a bit shaky... i guess he has not got into the character then.. but that isn't enough to render such criticisms from the viewers(or antis).. i have seen even worst acting from some popular boy groups who still have fans going gaga over their acting(saying things like 'good in acting' when they were not).

like you have said, the 1st few episodes are actually focusing on Eun Sung story. From there it slowly goes towards the relationship among the youngsters(as usual)...

anyway, i think Seung Gi has proved everyone along the way that he can improve on his acting..i believe he has already convinced viewers before epi 10 that he is an all-rounded..

though he can sing, can act and can do variety show(like 1N2D), but he can't dance.... but then, when he danced, he is so damn cute... anyone still remember the X-Man 'Of Course' segment? remember he was asked by KHD & the other MC to shoot love bullets at their Korean golf player,Michelle Wie's parents? that was cute..and Michelle Wie's parents are so fun and sporting...

The opening of the programme, everyone has to dance right? i missed seeing those....... so i have been going back to watch it again and again...hehe...even those nunas' on the programme likes him so much...

데뷔 후 첫 주연작인 드라마 시청률은 종반부에 채 다다르기도 전에 35%를 넘어서는 고공행진을 이어가며 '꿈의 시청률' 40%를 넘보고 있다. 또 2년 가까이 고정멤버로 활약하고 있는 KBS 2TV '해피선데이-1박2일'은 국민 예능으로 거듭난데다 이승기에게 '허당' 이미지를 선물, 그에게 새로운 도전 과제를 주고 있기 때문이다.

바쁜 촬영 스케줄 때문에 눈이 토끼처럼 빨갛게 충혈된 상태임에도 불구, 예의 성실하고 반듯하게 인터뷰에 임한 이승기는 어린나이임에도 불구, 데뷔 5년차 다운 프로의식을 엿보게 했다. 특히 시종일관 밝은 미소를 담아 조곤조곤 답변하는 이승기에게선 드라마 속 선우환도, '1박2일' 속 허당도 아닌 그야말로 '인간 이승기'의 진면목이 여실히 드러났다.

"한효주 실제 고은성과 너무 비슷..배려심 많아"

-극중 한효주씨와 너무 잘 어울린다. 함께 호흡 맞춰보니 어떤가?
▲(한)효주랑은 (동갑내기)친구인데, 밝고 성격이 너무 좋아요. 좋은 분위기에서 촬영하고 있어요. 효주는 진짜 제가 볼 때 실제 성격도 고은성과 비슷한 게 너무 많은 것 같아요, 은성이가 욱하는 것 빼곤, 밝고 남들 배려하고 그런 부분이 고은성 캐릭터와 참 많이 닮았어요.

-그럼 본인은 선우환 캐릭터와 닮은 것 같나?
▲저는 안 닮은 것 같았는데 왠지 닮아가는 거 같아요. 연기라는 건 가상의 인물을 만들어가는 과정이고 그 캐릭터를 극대화해 표현해내는 과정인데, 배우 입장에서 '내 가치관에서 이건 아니다'라고 했던 것도 드라마 하는 동안엔 섬세하게 끄집어 내 하게 되는 거죠.

-평소 바른생활 이미지인데, 자랄 때도 반듯하단 얘길 많이 들었나?
▲자랄 땐 연예인이 아니니까 그런 얘기 들을 기회 없었어요. 그냥 제가 학생회장이나 반장을 하고, 공부해서 대학 간 것 등. 그동안 밟아왔던 길 자체가 그런 이미지를 뒷받침해주고 그로 인해 만들어진 이미지이기 때문에 진짜 그렇게 살려고 노력하는 점도 있죠,

-연기 하면서 카타르시스도 느끼겠다.
▲물론이죠. 연기 하면서 카타르시스 많이 느껴요, 즐거운 쾌락이라기보단, 제가 못해본 걸 해보는 재미랄까요? 솔직히 촬영할 땐 제가 해놓게도 멋쩍게 웃고 마는데, 제가 드라마상에서 나쁘게 해도 진짜 나쁜 결과가 돌아오는 게 아니니까요.(웃음)

-가장 쾌감을 많이 느낀 장면은 뭐가 있나?
▲카타르시스를 제일 크게 느꼈던 장면은 돈 뿌리는 장면이에요. 아마 누군가에게 진짜 그러면 맞아죽겠죠? 하하. 그리고 아무한테나 반말하고... 아무래도 초반 캐릭터가 셌죠. 근래 나왔던 나쁜남자들을 능가할 정도로, 물론 나쁘다기 보단 독선적이고 예의없고 버릇없는 캐릭터지만요.

"초반 연기력 논란, 적잖이 충격 받았다"

-게시판을 보니 누나팬들의 그야말로 전폭적인, 엄청난 지지를 얻고 있더라. 든든하겠다.
▲(쑥스러워하며)드라마 속에서 그렇게까지 했는데도 사랑해주시니 감사하죠. 나이 많은 팬들만 있는 줄 알았는데, 그런 발언을 하면 나이 어린 팬들이 섭섭해 하던걸요.(웃음) 데뷔 초엔 예전엔 웬만하면 다 누나 팬이었는데 저도 나이가 드니 저보다 어린 팬들도 많이 보이더라고요.

-초반에 연기력 논란이 있더라. 당시 기분이 어땠는지?
▲솔직히 적잖이 충격도 받았어요. 내가 아무런 노력도 안했다면 그런 질책을 순순히 받아들였을텐데, 정말 많이 노력했던 건데 그렇게 돼 충격으로 다가왔죠. 연기도 연기지만, 오랜만의 드라마고 주인공이라 다소 힘이 들어간 점도 있지만, (예능) 이미지가 생각보다 많이 작용하는 것 같더라고요. 몰입도 떨어진단 얘길 많이 들었죠.
초반 4부 정도 모니터를 해보니, 대중들의 눈이 정확하더군요. 누가 연기를 하던 그 캐릭터에 매력은 있어야 하는 건데, 그걸 찾기 위해 무진장 노력했어요. 제 분량이 적어도 계속 파고 노력하면 그 안에서 나올거라 생각했고, 그렇게 계속 연구를 해 결국 알아냈죠.

-그렇게 찾아낸 선우환의 매력은 무엇이었나?
▲선우환의 인간적인 매력과 귀여움이 나올 때부터 조금씩 (연기가)된 것 같아요. 어느 순간부터 환의 행동들이 '정말 몰라서 그랬던 거구나'라는 걸 인지시킬 정도가 되고, 이해받는 캐릭터로 만들어 내 타당성을 부여할 수 있게끔 자세한 상황 설명 없이 연기로 아련하게 보여드리기 위해 노력했죠.

"실제 선우환이라면 승미 절대 못 버릴 것 같다"

-학창시절에 인기 많았을 것 같은데, 혹시 양다리 내지는 바람 피운 적 있나?
▲데뷔 전 중·고등학교 땐 풋사랑이었는데, 바람피우고 뭐 그럴 기회는 없었어요. 정말 마음을 못 막아 다른 사람이 좋아진다면 이전 사람에게 미안하지 않기 위해 정리할 수 있는 시간을 주려 노력했을 거예요. 그런 점에서 인간 이승기가 봤을 때 승미(문채원 분)에 대한 환의 행동은 정말 무책임하게 느껴져요.

-실제로 환이 같은 상황에 놓인다면 승미 버릴 수 있나?
▲실제로 선우환이라면, 승미 절대 못 버릴 것 같아요. 아마 제 성격상 그런 상황까지 안 끌고 갈 걸요. 물론 정식으로 사귄 건 아니니까 양다리는 아니지만, 현실이라면 승미의 마음을 어느 정도 눈치 챘을 거고. 인간 이승기라면 그걸 알면서도 옆에 두진 않겠죠. 지금 상황은 드라마니까 극적으로 그려지는 부분이 있는 거고요.

-드라마 결말은 어떻게 됐으면 좋겠나?
▲아무대로 은성과의 사랑이 잘 이루어졌으면 좋겠죠. 갑자기 생뚱맞게 헤어지고, 각자의 길을 가고 그런 것 말고 하하.

-그럼 유산은?
▲유산은 괜찮아요.(웃음) 유산도 받고 여자도 얻으면야 더할 나위 없이 좋겠지만, '찬란한 유산'이 그려온 바가 가치 있게 표현되기 위한 방향으로 이끌어지는 게 제일 중요하죠. 유산까진 욕심내지 않고 있어요.

"'1박2일' 형들이 생생 연애담 얘기해줘..나홀로 솔로지만 외롭진 않아."

-'1박2일' 멤버들도 드라마 모니터 해주나?
▲그럼요~ 우리 '1박2일' 멤버들도 그렇고 작가진들도 그렇고 모두들 전폭적인 지지를 보여주고 계세요. (1박2일)현장과 드라마의 상황은 달라도 너무 달라요. 드라마 속에선 아쉬울 게 없는 캐릭터인데 현장에 오면 갑자기 가난해지고 '밥 좀 주세요' '재워주세요'라고 하고.(웃음) 팀원들이 진심으로 응원해주고 있어 너무 고마워요.

-게시판에 '1박2일' 멤버들 카메오 출연 얘기도 있더라.
▲(웃으며)일단 멤버들의 카메오 출연은 제 권한 밖의 일이고요. 게시판에 그런 얘기가 나왔다는데, 그들이 오면 도저히 연기가 안 될 것 같아요. 아무리 프로의식을 갖고 연기하려 해도 보는 순간 빵 터질걸요. 가령 (강)호동이형이 설렁탕 무한리필 해달라며 많이 먹는 손님으로 등장하면? 연기도 못해보고 웃다가 끝나지 않을까 싶어요. 형들이 연기하는 걸 보기만 해도 웃길 것 같아요.

-'1박2일'의 이승기가 없었으면 사람들이 이렇게까지 좋아하지 않았을 거란 의견도 있더라.
▲아무래도 '1박2일' 이미지가 있어서 못된 역할을 해도 예쁘게 받아들여지는 면도 있다고 봐요. 하지만 정말 나쁜 사람이 나쁜 행동을 하는 걸 보려고 드라마 보는 게 아니잖아요. 그런 걸 보려면 다큐멘터리를 봐야죠.(웃음) 드라마를 드라마로만 볼 수 있는 여건이 되니 그런 점에서 (1박2일이)너무 고맙죠.

-실제로 말도 잘 하고 아닌 것 같은데 어쩌다 허당이 됐나?
▲그러게요 하핫.. 일반적으로 알만한 걸 잘 모르는 경우가 의외로 많더라구요. 오히려 교과서적인 건 많이 아는데, 사람이 살아가며 알아야 할 기본 상식 같은 걸 모르는 게 (프로그램 하다보니)많았어요. 가령 불 피운 법이랄까, 요리하는 법 같은 기본적인 거요.

-'1박2일'에서 유일하게 솔로인데, 외롭지 않은가?
▲아직까지 외로움을 많이 느끼진 않고 있어요. 형들이 하는 얘기 보면 재미있고, 또 결혼한 형들은 현실을 너무 많이 얘기해 주니까 하하. 중간 과정 없이 너무 저쪽 얘기만 듣다 보면 '이건 뭐야?' 싶기도 하지만 재미로 듣고 있어요.

-그렇다면 결혼은 언제쯤?
▲30살 넘어서 하고 싶어요. 굉장히 멀 것 같은데. 왠지 금방 올 것 같아요.(웃음)

"특정 분야에 특출나지 않기에, 최고의 멀티플레이어 되고파"

-어느새 '1박2일' 합류한 지도 오래됐다.
▲그러게요 벌써 2년이 다 돼가고 있어요. 힘든 걸 느낄 여유도 없을 정도로 바빠요. 쉬는 시간이 없으니 아픈 것도 모르겠는걸요? 감사한 마음으로 즐겁게 하고 있어요.

-어린 나이에 연예계 데뷔를 준비해 남들과 같은 추억이 별로 없겠다. 아쉽진 않은지?
▲음. 아무래도 또래 친구들에 비해 고등학교 때 경험이 부족했죠. 진학 문제라던가 그 당시 나이 또래에 하는 고민을 공유하지 못한 점이 좀 아쉬워요.

-연기, 예능 못하는 게 없지만 한편으론 어떤 분야에서도 특출나지 않단 얘기도 있더라.
▲맞아요. 전 타고난 재능이나 남들에 비해 돋보일 정도로 대단한 능력은 없어요. 만약 제가 가수로서의 재능을 많이 갖고 태어났다면 가수만 했을텐데, 그렇지 않기 때문에 이것저것 다 열심히 해야 하는 거죠.
하지만 한편으로 생각하면, 어떤 분야에서 1위를 달리고 있는데 다른 분야로 왔다갔다 하는 인물은 또 그렇지 않은 것 같아요. 자유자재로 활동 영역을 넘나드는 사람이 없으니까... 저도 독보적인 존재가 되고 싶은 욕심도 있고 스트레스도 받지만, 할 수 있는 한 최선을 다해서 (최고의)멀티플레이어가 되는 게 목표예요. 노력만으로도 되기 힘든 세상에, 특출난 재능이 없다면 노력밖엔 없는 건데, 이것저것 확실하게 해보자 하는 그런 마음인 거죠.


예능 이미지가 강해 극 초반 불안과 우려를 한 몸에 받았던 이승기는 자신을 둘러싸고 있는 '허당'의 아우라를 빛 발하는 연기력으로 말끔히 떨쳐내고 연기력과 흥행 파워를 동시에 입증하고 있다. 가수로 데뷔한 그이지만 기존 이미지와 상반되는 캐릭터마저도 훌륭하게 소화해내며 연기자로서도 확고하게 자리매김한 것.

이승기는 '찬란한 유산' 종영 후엔 정규 4집 앨범 작업에 몰두, 올 가을께 가수로 컴백할 예정이다. 오랜 외도(?) 아닌 외도로 보다 두터운 대중적 인기를 얻게 된 이승기는 새 앨범을 통해 가수로서의 진면목을 보여주겠다는 각오다. '노력은 결코 배신하지 않는다'는 말이 썩 어울린다.

“I want to show myself as an actor”: Lee Seung Gi, male lead of the drama “Brilliant Legacy” which broke through viewers’ rating of 35%


“When rating hit over 30%, I was elated. However, now that rating has broken through 35%, the feeling is a bit different. There is pressure from a sense of burden, responsibility. I feel that I have to forget about ratings and just try my best till the end.”

To Lee Seung Gi, the 21st may look like the best Sunday, isn’t it? At 7pm KBS 2TV Happy Sunday – 1N2D hit viewers rating of over 30%. And 3 hours later, SBS drama Brilliant Legacy’s rating went over 35%.


In actual fact, at the beginning of the drama, there were criticisms on LSG’s acting, with comments like he got casted simply because of his popularity in 1n2d; he was just like the heo-dang in 1n2d etc. However, it took LSG just 3 – 4 episodes to overcome this adversity. To viewers he is no longer heo-dang: Seon Woo Hwan has risen prominently.

In the afternoon of 24th, I met with Lee Seung Gi at the Production Centre of KBS at Tan-hyeon. He is the very image of a beloved, energetic, bright and cheerful and physically fit young man.


“Romance is really powerful. The elasticity of the love triangle between Hwan. Eun Seong & Junse seems to be pulling in more viewers. These days, when I receive the script, I can’t help but feel nervous automatically. Guess I’m really immersed in the drama.”

“Romantic scenes are really difficult. There are so many subtleties that need to be expressed. Each hand movement, eye expression can translate into very different feelings. That’s why, by comparison with other scenes, there’s a need for more preparation. However, the problem is that it’s not exactly something that you can do rehearsals on. It’s not as if you can just grab anyone and practise a kissing scene (laughter). Moreover, I’m not really familiar with all those love talk the way they are scripted. The point is how to deliver these lines naturally without sounding cheesy. Down to the smallest details, they gave me a lot of headaches while acting out the scenes.”


LSG described Hwan as a young man who wants for nothing and does not understand how to be thankful or apologetic. He is oblivious to things around him to the point that he is not even aware of the special feelings his high school junior, Seung Mi has for him.

“Actually, in real life, this would be untenable. What man would treat Seung Mi so innocently just as a little sister? (laughter). However, it’s all a drama. If a man like Hwan exists, to him, love or marriage is unlikely to be important. After witnessing his father’s death, he would likely lead an insipid life, with his heart closed.”

Such a Hwan is currently falling for candy girl Eun Seong. Without knowing it, he is drawn to her, and he’s now in a state of intense confusion.

“These days, Hwan is stuck in a awkward position, steeped in anguish and conflict. However, in the coming episode, opportunities will arise during the Dong Hae cruise, and Hwan is going to actively approach Eun Seong. He’s going to do it in style. But as to whether I was able to execute that well, I don’t really know” (laughter)


It seems that LSG came well prepared for any question, as he was quick and eloquent in his answers. Heo-dang, he was not. Nor was he a brat. He was actually “a smart boy”. Especially when it came to the subjects of singing or acting, he showed a lot of intelligence.


"Actually, at the beginning, it was difficult to find appeal in Hwan’s character. A single dimensional character who would flare up at the slightest provocation. However, it was said that an actor’s role is to add flavor to the character, and so I started to do it, a small step at a time. Because of this, at points in the drama, I tried to show that the character has a certain cuteness, a certain tenderness and this seems to have brought life to the character."


After debuting as a singer in 2004, LSG participated in MBC’s then sitcom “Non-stop” Then, in 2006, he took part in KBS 2TV “Famous Seven Princesses”, paving the way for his becoming the male lead in “Brilliant Legacy”.


“I didn’t entertain any thoughts about acting. Nor did I want to become involved in acting. Didn’t think I have the right disposition, nor the talent to do it. Not that I have the talent now. However, my boss in my management company had, since my debut, incessantly told me that some day I should branch out into acting and that I should be prepared for that. So, it’s not like I suddenly decide to go into acting. I have actually been steadily preparing for it. Was at my worst during the days in sitcom as I didn’t have the ability to interpret the scripts then. However, as time passes, despite being still inadequate, as I began to have a better grasp, and as I could see a bit of results, I began to appreciate the appeal of acting. I began to understand why people want to act in drama.” He revealed that in future he’s going to continue with a career in both singing and acting.



“If, as a singer on stage, one shows his/her own image with explosive power, then as an actor in a drama, there is a lot of room for the imagination. Although I still don’t really understand what makes an actor, I definitely find acting very interesting.”

"Being able to overcome the criticisms received in the early days of the drama is very fulfilling. The more I think of "이 드라마를 통해 '저 친구가 계속 연기를 하겠구나!'라는 생각이 들도록, (sorry, not sure what he exactly means here. Word for word, it says “through this drama, my friend is going to continue acting”) the more I want to show myself as an actor”, he said emphatically.

Wow, can't believe so much has gone on in here today! Thank you eloise for the translations and yumei86 and Bee for the links, pics and updates. Seung Gi really is doing everything at the moment. Variety, drama, and music. No wonder the poor boy has been looking a little fatigued lately in BL. But amazing even with only hours of sleep a day he's still so perky and bright on 1n2d. Ahh... the power of youth.

Anyways, I'm really happy to see everyone back in here discussing and sharing again. Especially regarding his role and acting on BL. From all the articles and news that's flying around it seems our boy has definitely made some good impressions with the audience. Yes, it seems universal everyone feels he needed some time adjusting in the beginning, but he's sooo on the right track now. The first couple of episodes I remember thinking he was doing decently, not great yet, HHJ was definitely stealing the show, but he wasn't doing bad considering how rough a character he was playing. My main complaint was his voice. It was just too loud and harsh for me at times. But as the episodes progress, like others have said he's adjusted, adapted, and learned. He's taking feedback from the audience and digesting his character to create something he and the audience can appreciate and understand. Reading the translations it really is impressive how much thought he/they are putting into the role. BL makes a huge point to focus on all the details. Expressions, hand gestures, even using lighting and angles to highlight emotion. Cliche as it might be, but I feel there's something almost delicate about the way it's filmed. =) And I love how each character stays true to his/her nature. No one's actions/reactions veer too far off from what their personalities would dictate.

But back to Seung Gi. I think the last couple of chapters have definitely proven to most people that Seung Gi has definite acting ability. His has a talent to express emotion with his face, especially his eyes. He seems to be able to draw something very real and raw from within whenever he cries. I loved the both scenes where he was in the jail and when he overhead his grandmother talking about giving up on him. He wasn't full on crying, but just barely fighting back tears. He expressed hurt, anger, and disapointment so beautifully. I dont' get impressed with crying scenes very often because many times they can come out awkward and forced, but Seung Gi really knows how to emote. Love it!

As far as anti's go. Well they just come with the territory when your popular. No way around it. But our boy knows how to handle with grace and class. =)

Yon, I definitely miss those old Xman/Loveletter days! They were the best weren't they! That Michelle Wie episode was priceless. So much fangirling in that episode with all those boyband members, but she chose the cutest and most adorable one. Love arrows... how I miss seeing those =D

I remember when I was 22 (not long ago), I had no where close to the poise and confidence that he has. He's getting good at doing press conferences now eh? LOL. Honestly, just thinking about it can make me feel all weepy and emo. He's young, talented, with a bunch of opportunities lying ahead of him. He probably wants to try more things, different things, new and challenging projects. BUT, it just sucks to think that the 6 people we see on screen every Sunday might consist of different people in the future. I have only been a fan of like several months. I don't think I'm ready to see one of the members leave. It will be a big loss.

On a different issue. Seems like Seunggi is really tired from his activities. His eyebags are getting bigger and bigger.



Hope he'll get some rest.

The Lee Seung Gi effect



The Lee Seung Gi effect is firmly in place, claims the Korean media, after both of his variety show KBS2TV Happy Sunday 1N2D and SBS weekend drama Shining Inheritance (lead role) went over the 40% mark this past Sunday. According to TNS Media Korea, 1N2D achieved a peak rating of 43.3% on the 28th while Shining Inheritance's peak rating was 40.6% on the same day. The average rating of 1N2D was 33.9% while Shining Inheritance got a 39.9% average, meaning that nearly 1/2 of Korea's population were tuned in to watching Lee Seung Gi's shows on their tv.

Lee Seung Gi has had a decent singing career with his ballads although that is now clearly taking a backseat while he is involved with drama and variety. Lee Seung Gi had already won the hearts of many with his secondary role in Famous Princesses back in 2006, especially ahjumma fans, who recognized him even now when he is on the streets with 1N2D. It seems like whatever Lee Seung Gi does, it's bound to be a sure winner and that rubs off on everyone who are involved in the same production with him.




Of course, we can't directly imply that Lee Seung Gi should be the only one credited with the high ratings, since it's a team effort, but it's also not wrong to say that Lee Seung Gi has had an impact in one way or another. Seung Gi's the only 1 involved in both 1N2D and Shining Inheritance, and his wholesome image has most likely endeared him to fans of all ages, from young children to high school students and the ahjummas in Korea. I mean more than 40% of the entire Korean population have seen Lee Seung Gi on tv over the weekend, surely his stock has risen even further after this.

Advertisers will definitely take note of this.

The article primarily talked about how rare it is for an artist to be active in all the 3 fields of variety show hosting, acting and singing. It went on to say that, other than Seung Gi, no artist has come out on top in both show hosting and acting at the same time, and that’s why Seung Gi’s case is all the more prominent.

It also named a host of MCs and actors/actresses who straddle both fields,. It commented that the achievement of these artists cannot really be compared to that of Seung Gi’s in terms of the significance of his role (being the male lead) in Brilliant Legacy, the level of success of 1n2d and his popularity.

what a lucky year for Seunggi!

i admire this boy, the point is he is just so LUCKY to begin with.

he's good looking. tall. genius. multi-talented. not everyone can be a good actor even how much he/she work hard for it. i can already see he got the talent in acting from watching his mvs. he's natural. adding with his perfectionism and dedication just lead to his every success. BL itself have a good script and direction, but if the acting is lacking i dont think we can have a 40% here. and he did great in his choice of work. both BL and 1n2d are promising shows. or can i just say he's lucky to have pick them. there're many great dramas with great actors but unfortunately didnt do well in ratings. and he got charm and adorable personality add with a cute face which i think his main attraction on 1n2d. i really hope he'll never leave that show before it ends. it wont be the same without him, same goes to others. they all got their own attraction. they're a perfect team, and i just love their chemistry! but i'm afraid since he seems to prioritize singing n acting, he might have in mind to leave 1n2d if he wants to give time to the first two. he didnt even have time to promote his single right now. what more to study for master. goodness, why must he do well in everything? i bet he must be dislike by every man in korea. people are already struggling with one thing and cant even succeed and here he's having a hard time to choose. haha! i really wonder what girl is his type since he's a perfectionist. must be a perfect girl too hoho! like goo hye sun maybe. LOL.

regardless, wish he put his health above all. he looked really tired in his drama and 1n2d. lucky him (again?!), his character now struggling with work and love life, so its not weird seeing him with a tired face. but i always enjoy watching him waking up early in 1n2d for the morning mission. feels bad seeing him not a light sleeper anymore. and his eyebag clearly show. seunggi ya, please spare time for some good sleep.

p/s; i dont want his drama to finish. but i really cant wait to see seunggi-the singer on stage again!

i was thinking that for his next role.. it would be cool for him to take a lead role in the new drama the hong sisters are writing about IDOLS!.. it would be kinda similar but then not to his real self.. maybe get him to dance a little more and step out of the ballad image for a sec while acting and singing.. a quadruple threat dancing/singing/acting/entertaining.. Selfish of me, I just don't want any of the 6 guys leaving 1n2d because the show will never feel the same again.
Specially Seung Gi since I never missed 1n2d ever since he went on-board. I hope that he considers 1n2d a part of his acting gig So far I trust his management team since they seem to be making the right decisions for his career. Plus what will happen to his 2020 contract with 1n2d? Anyway, his managers are also enjoying 1n2d... catching all those fish...


I was also thinking about this when BL started showing high ratings...what was LSGi's part in this? True, not all the high ratings was due to LSGi since these 2 shows have other cast members with their own followers. But I do believe this helped out in the ratings:
1. 1n2d fans (like me) were curious how LSGi would act so they started out tuning into BL since the start. But BL proved to be a drama worth watching so we stayed glued.

2. While those who watched BL first got to be impressed with LSGi's acting. They started to look for his other works & they saw 1n2d and the rest is history (since we all know how addicting this show is)

We also could never underestimate the fans' word of mouth since these 2 shows are not that highly publicized.

Agree. Don't forget he did it twice...the Seung Gi Pond Probably by Dec-Jan, he will request PD Na to go to the lake/pond again to do this. With his success I'm anticipating that the rest would now be voluntarily joining him and KHD for that dip.

LOL don't worry it made me laugh inside too! i know he couldn't pick up dancing well and that's why he became a ballad singer but it would be fun to see him acting as an all-around idol in the hong sisters' idol drama hehe
