This is a thread to discuss & share about this genre of music. If it is not your taste, then please refrain from bashing. This thread is for those who like it.
Because I have a very eclectic taste in music, I love this genre of music too. I think it's a breath of fresh air when you wanna get away from the heavy repetitive beats of hiphop, R&B
sometimes. I'm a huge fan of VOCAL trance.
Just a FYI: Definitions (Yes, there are variations + differences)

I don't consider trance/techno music.
I think to be a trance/techno producer takes more effort than being a rap/hip hop artist. Do you know that there is a thing called dance and vocal trance where people sing? A lot of them sing very well and choose to be in this industry cause their voice suits it...If playing two spoons is music, then obviously this is music, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I hardly ever return to the threads I make because I just make them so that people will have a place to post and talk and have their own opinions or wtv.
But, I just gotta say that I love the way you wrote/answered that. Trance/Techno is music. Why wouldn't it be? You're absolutely right. Dance and vocal trance/techno are sometimes better than listening to the same repetitive beats out there in the music industry nowadays. Some of them are actually quite good, and it evokes a new type of feel and emotions when you listen to it. Sure, it mostly sends out the same message but it is relatively awesome music.
But of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion : )

I, for one, don't know much about trance/techno. But, I have heard of some of the songs. To me, it just sounds like some really fast upbeat tune with or without words.
Yeah, it's better than listening to songs with repetitive beats and such, but it just doesn't suit my idea of the term music. =/

Lol naw, I didn't mean to bite your head off. It's just that so many people misunderstand trance/techno and label it 'Gino Beats' (please don't ever use that term for trance/techno...that's one of my biggest pet peeves lol

) Anyway, yea...I've tried making mixes, which are just compilations of tracks that are mixed together, and it was hard as hell! If mixing is THAT hard, then remixing or producing must be crazy! Yea, rap artists produce and remix too, but theirs just has more lyrics, and to be honest, rap beats aren't any more repetitive than trance/techno beats are
Rather than saying it's not your 'idea' of music, say that it's not your 'type' cause almost anything can be defined as music. Look at Stomp! Their stuff is just banging things and making beats out of everyday items, but they're still considered music. Well yea, if you don't really know much about trance/techno, look into it. You might not like it, but at least you took the time to try it out =)
Gah. Sorry for blabbing...I can't help it. I'm a trancehead at heart d(-__-)b

mixing isnt that hard, its just getting the fundamentals down, rhythm and beat counting.
which is probably the most important thing.

the thing w/fruityloops is that you need ALOT of samples and its a pain in the ass if youre stuck w/the demo or have to pay for them.
when i install fruityloops again, ill help you out. its been awhile =\
but really, if you get a chance, play w/decks and some vinyl. just feeling the actual thing and manipulating it, you learn things so much faster

Oct 17 2005, 01:04 PM
Yea mixing's not THAT hard, but the thing is you have to get the right rhythm and choose the right music to mix with. Oh and Fruityloops is very confusing in my opinion...I use Reason. I had this file with a whole bunch of Fruitloop hard bass beats, but I can't seem to find it right now....
Oh and res0nate, why don't you show us your winamp playlist? I'd love to see what kind of tracks you have =) (lol and damn 100 gigs....that's crazy!)

i prefer trance. i don't like "dance."
i don't know how i can tell the difference, but i think dance is more poppy.
DJ Tiesto, Ferry Corsten and Armin van Buuren are one of my favourites.

dl a track from carl cox / sven vath / dave pearce, then do the same w/paul van dyk / tiesto or armin van buuren.
the former 3 are techno and the latter are trance. when you listen to the tracks you can distinguish the differences. i hate explaining the minute diffs' in each =\

Well mixing is just getting tracks that already exist and putting them together in a way that suits the style and rhythm. So say I want to make a mix...I get the tracks I want...Decide what order to put them in, and use a mixer to create smooth transitions. The thing is...It's hard to decide if the tracks you chose fit together well enough to be unified I guess.
Remixing is getting a previously released song and adding/changing something about the track. It can be subtle or very drastic.
Producing is what it sounds like. You start from scratch. Get the beats, add any sound effects you want and whatnot. It's all made by you.
I'm guessing what you're looking to do is produce, which is the hardest of the three. Well good luck with that, and if you produce anything, send me some of your stuff =) I'm up for anything new
