I have decided to start a Crystal Kay Thread why because she SO deserves it. It will go pretty slow because sources on her are hard to find so bear with me or contribute if you LOVE her like I do she needs to be shown so love!
This is my first time trying this so here goes nothing for Miss Crystal KayProfile:
Crystal Kay was born Crystal Kay Williams on February 26, 1986 in Yokohama, the daughter of a bass playing African American father and a singing Korean mother. She began singing at a very young age, and by the age of six was recording as a vocalist for major advertising. Also as a child she attended a Diana Ross concert, where she brought Ms. Ross flowers and received a kiss on the cheek in return. While born in Japan, Crystal is an American citizen, and attended international school. While she has been active in the entertainment business since she was a toddler, she has not neglected her education, and is currently enrolled in Jochi University in Tokyo. Crystal Kay and Hikaru Utada have quite few things in common, and are often compared. Similarities include being native English speakers, having parents who are musicians who groomed them from an early age, R&B oriented material, debut albums which sold only moderately well, and then developing into major stars. Additionally, while both are generally considered idols, unlike many idols, they are both musical and possess strong, soulful voices. Crystal Kay was signed to Sony's Epic label while just 12 years old. She made her recorded debut July 1, 1999 with the single "Eternal Memories", and released her first album, Crystal Lover Light, in March 2000. Crystal's second album, 637- always and forever, sold respectably, reportedly near 100,000 copies. It was with her third release, Almost Seventeen, in October 2002 that she had her real commercial breakthrough, with the album going on to sell over 400,000 copies. As Crystal has grown older, her sound has progressively become more R&B, and these days she is often compared to foreign singers like Janet Jackson and Brandy. She has been very successful with her collaboration with the Japanese hip-hop team m-flo, with whom she has recorded the singles "Ex-Boyfriend" (2001), "Hard To Say" (2002), "I Like It" (2003) and "Reewind" (2003). She has also added to her exposure by working regularly as a DJ on FM Yokohama. Her "best of" album, CK5, was released in June 2004. Her single "Kiss", released in December of 2004, was used in NTT DoCoMo advertising, which helped make it a hit. Crystal's newest full length CD, Crystal Style, was released in March 2005 and went to #2 in Oricon's album chart. Her follow-up single "Koi Ni Ochitara" was featured in a popular TV drama, and went to #1. Quite a career already for someone not yet 20 years old.

I used to see her appear on an Asian show called Evolution and she is a Japanese singer. She looked more like an African American to me so I was puzzled that she sang in Japanese. It is all cleared up now since she has an African American father.

I don't believe she's Japanese in an biological/ethnic sense, but more culturally. That's where she was born and raised so she's Japanese, just like how people in the US come from a variety of different ethnic backgrounds but are still American.
I LOVE her! Omg, "Kirakuni" was on repeat for a couple weeks straight with me, and her stuff with M-flo is great too. I need to order her latest release.

Crystal Kay is one of the best jpop singers I've listened to. The first song I liked of hers was the song I like it and the stuff she does with M-Flo. Her songs that have rap in them are good.

I liked her when she was on Music Station, 'cause she was really sweet, chatty, and mature. When I had first seen a MV by her a couple years ago, I actually thought she was just really dark for being Japanese.
I totally like a bunch of her songs. ^o^

Crystal Kay was in one of my class last year. I don't know her personally but at school she looks pretty normal and don't really wear make-up or dress up or anything like that. Her boyfriend also goes to the school (he's half Japanese & half white~~but he's not really that cute. Actually, I'm not 100% sure that he's her bf, but I always see them together and holding hands and stuff...so I'm assuming that he is.) Although she's quite popular in Japan, people at school don't really stare or gasp when they her or anything. In that sense, she's treated like everyone else... Just thought I share some info...

I've heard of her, mostly because of M-flo, and I've sampled her music - which has good beats. I think I listened to Call Me Miss. I didn't know that she's part Korean - which is interesting, because they tend to be more alienated in Japanese culture, even though Koreans are the largest minority group in Japan.

That is quite cool! I'm glad that she sounds normal, and it must be nice to be able to live a normal life even if you are a singer.

yup yup shes half korean. her mom is a singer aswell-i believe shes a zainichi korean. Kuri doesnt know any korean though just english and japanese. She is very down to earth and even though she knows so many famous people all the ppl that have met her say she comes across as grounded. her recent concert was off the hook. call me miss is such a good album. i think it may be the last album with sony too. thats if she decides not to renew her contract as it expired this year.
if you wanna get kuri pics, media and news etc these r great forums-join join join!

hehe yeah I know what show your talking about..."revolution" That show used to show all Korean mvs then they started showing j-pop mvs.
I first came across CK during an interview she did for "Pop Japan TV" I was wow whose this gorgeous gal. My brothers seen her too, and thought she was hella fine!! I knew she was a mix, I thought she was part-japanese too, but then when I found out that she was part korean I like

wow!!!!
One of the first songs that I heard of hers was "Ex-boyfriend" pt2 I used to jam that song all the time. I loved that song. My next fav was "Motherland" I loved that song sooo much, my mom even liked it too. I think that was her first ballad song. I loved the song she did with Chemistry. She has another single on that album "My everything" that song was off tha hook too!!!! If I didn't know her I would have thought she was an american singer.
I don't know what's up...but she has alot of potiental to make her in the states. She did study and train in NYC. Its such a shame that the american producers over look someone with some much talent and potiental.

Crystal Kay is my favorite artist. Kekeke.
Sorry for reviving this thread but I just absolutely LOOVE Kuri-chan. I wish I can go to one of her concerts, but she's all the way in Japan.
I'll determined to go to Japan to see her in concert after high school!
