love_fate&destiny
does anyone know who sing this song?? i'm not sure if this is a hmong song or not, but if it is not, can anyone tell me who sings it?

A song:

Beginning:
What you and I share,
Is something special,
The bottom between us and I,
The both of us,
Didn’t intend to fid one other like this,
No regrets, memories last a lifetime,
And because of you, I learn to love again,
Promise sill see each other again…

Chorus 1:
If I was given a chance to turn around,
I would turn back the times,
I’m so sorry that I weren’t there for you,
When you need me too,
My feelings there for you are so true,
Never knew that I be blind to have hurted you,

Chorus 2:
It all started back then,
I’m living my mind on a stranger fantasy,
I never knew what I want, never knew, what I need,
Then I found this one special lady,
Open up my heart and she drove me crazy,
I just want to run away,
I just want to forget her today,
But my heart is stopping me,
Telling me she is the one that I need

Chorus 1 and 2

Chorus 1
Never knew that I be hurting you,
All I ever want to be is friends (repeat)

Chorus 1
Beginning with chorus singing in background (song end when the beginning ends talking)

i'm not sure if the lyrics are right but this is the best i can do. hope you guys will help me out.

Im not talking about the voices or what not. I know there are hmong people who can sing... its just that their that songs sucks. The music, the lyrics, its too juvenile, or has been done by lots of other hmong people and failed.

Anywho, why would I want to hear someone who sounds like Christina or Alicia, when I can listen to the the actual artist? What I am saying is that these Hmong artist should do their own thing and not try to be "cool" or "sound" like another american celeb. They should just work with what they got, and not try to make it sound like another thing that has already been done. Know what I mean?

You know, this doesn't just apply to Hmong people, its applys to Asia in general. Like take Minwoo (Don't hate, I think the guys talented and I don't hate him or anything) for example. Why can't Minwoo just be Minwoo, why does he try to be like Justin Timberlake or Usher? Why can't he just do his own thing? Why does he try to be something that has already been done, and exsits? I mean, think about it. It makes sense but... If you wanna make it big and your not white, you should do your own thing. Like Shakira, she is spanish(I think), does she try to sound like Madonna or someone white? No, She does her own thing. Thats what got her to where she is today. She has her own style and such.

Don't even call me a hater b/c this is a fact. Look at all those Asian celeb trying to make it big in the U.S. when they are doing something that has already been done by aother person or still exsist. ( Don't even talk about Utada, Girls got mad talent, unique, she has her own thing, problem was her music wasn't catchy enough I would say. I think she should give it another shot.) Anywho, People like Jet Li, and Jackie Chan, they bring in their own thing, thats what made them big. Think about it. Most of the famous asian in America did their own thing. No asian is ever gonna get famous b/c they can sing like Chirstina or Alicia. thats not enough.

whoooaa.... I better stop before I write an essay. laugh.gif Anywho, Mad props to old Hmong folks with the traditional songs. CLOSE UP WITH PAGNIA XIONG

Name: Pagnia Xiong
Age: 20
Home Town: Eau Claire, WI

With a smile that melts hearts and a stage presence that will steal the show, Pagnia’s voice is, in the words of the judges, flawless.

Well grounded in her educational pursuits, Pagnia dreams to take her voice as far as it will take her.

Hmong Today was fortunate to have caught-up with Pagnia to conduct this short interview

Current Occupation: Junior at University of Wisconsin, Madison, studying Elementary Education

Q: When did you know you had vocal talent?
A: I was told in the 5th grade that I had a good voice.

Q: Do you prefer singing in Hmong or English?
A: It doesn’t matter to me, I enjoy both the same.

Q: Have you sung professionally before?
A: Oh no, I was in a pageant when I was 17 years old and I’ve sung at various Hmong New Years throughout Wisconsin – as well as winning the singing competition at the Hmong New Year in St. Paul, but beyond that, no, I don’t have an album or anything.

Q: Do you write music or lyrics?
A: I played the flute for many years so I caught on how to read and write music, but I haven’t written a song or anything. As for lyrics, no, I’ve played around, but nothing too serious.

Q: Who are your favorite performers?
A: Definitely Celine Dion. From the Hmong world, I like the classics like Lu Yang and Cha Mee. Their words and their music are so powerful.

Q: Why did you join Hmong Idol and what are you hoping to get out of it, now that you have won?
A: My goal in joining Hmong Idol was simply to gain experience for my future. I definitely want to be in the music business, either recording my own music or helping to produce other musicians.

Q: Will we see a Pagnia record out soon?
A: I hope so! I think a record is part of the prize for winning Hmong Idol, but I’m still talking to them about it for now.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, December 17, 2005 –

After months of auditions, rehearsals, and intense competition, 15 artists were selected to participate in the final competition for the title of first Hmong Idol USA.

There was not a dull moment throughout the evening as nearly 300 anxious and excited individuals came together at the Upfront Events Center in Brooklyn Park, MN, to bare witness to the impressive displays of talent from the finalists.

The competition was held in two rounds and judged by a panel assembled by Charming Records including, John De Haan, a voice professor at the University of MN, Karen Lyu, the Executive Director of West Bank Music and singer and voice instructor, Cara Tmytrey.

There was an impressive display of talent as each participant performed songs of their choice – making the audience roar in drowning applause. After two rounds, the judges carefully deliberated their decision on the top 5 finalists as: Rachael Yang, Gary Xiong, Pa Nhia Xiong, Pamela Xiong and Poua Vang.

As with all competitions, there were mixed reactions from the audience as crowds voiced their disappointment and left the event in reaction to their contestant-of-choice not making it to the finals. Gripped by the suspense to find the winner, there was still a significant amount of people who stayed to enjoy the riveting final performances.

The final round challenged each performer to sing their own rendition of the song “Txog Koj Ib Leeg” by Xanakee. When asked about why this song was chosen, event organizer and founder of Charming Records, Kase Vang explained that, “it’s a good song with a nice melody, but it can be boring and it’s a good song where you can add your own creativity to it and it will still sound good.”

By the end of the night, the audience was boiling with anticipation as the top three winners were announced. The MC’s read the final results as Third Place winner being, Poua Vang; Second Place winner being Rachael Yang and finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for, the winner of the first Hmong Idol USA competition is Pagnia Xiong from Eau Claire, WI! And with that announcement, the thick silence that had hushed the audience was broken as the crowd screamed with approval.

Pleased with the results, Kace Vang is optimistic that Hmong Idol will become a yearly tradition in the community the same way July 4th Soccer Tournament is. “It was great – great performance. The program was very great. Hopefully we can find funding for future events – we plan to make it an annual event.”

the only hmong music that i listen to, which is probably once or twice a month depending on my mood, is Paradise [the new band] and Whyteshadows. my favorite Paradise song is Tus Phooj Ywg Zoo Tsaj, and the best Whyteshadows song is the one they sang to their parents. i'm not that into hmong music, as you can tell.

it really does suck sometimes. they need to fix the tunes and lyrics. and some people don't realize that their image counts, too. ==

I guess it's me and you agaist all the others..

OK! NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE HERE, HMONG OR NON-HMONG!!

An incident awhile back caused me to HATE Hmong music. It was at Solid07 Forums. I was just stating that i didn't like Hmong Music, and it dragged on. then OMG, i am called a Hmong Hater, i mean, i just said that i didn't like Hmong Music, and all of a sudden i am a HMONG HATER?!?!?! It turns out that my cousin too was yelling at me. Aniways. that incident just really led me to believe that i really hate Hmong music. I know, I should base my final thoughts on such a stupid little incident, But then during that time when i was really angry about that, I was like criticizing every single thing about the Hmong movies and songs.. and it turns out that... YES HMONG MUSIC isn't anywhere near great music.

Yeah sure, Hmong music has come a long way right? But it still has A VERY LONG way to go! I mean, Paradise? That's a real joke! the hmong version of BSB?! Haha. i remember when my friends were all drooling over their pictures and songs and their names, like Mr Right, or Mr. Smarty or seomthing along those lines.. I didn't have a clue as to what they were talking about. Still to this day i can't remember any of their names.. ANiways.. yeah getting off topic..

Well.. Hmm.. Their CD covers. Can't they just use a little money to hire a professional to make their album covers? and their music, I think they are getting better at this area, but i think that they don't know the ART of MUSIC yet. They should take classes and learn notes and stuff like that. I mean, i don't remember any hmong guy in Paradise or whatever who can actually play the guitar SUPER GREAT like little kids that i know. [compare their voices to the girl in THE SCHOOL OF ROCK!] OK.. MUSIC isn't just the lyrics and the voice, it's the MUSIC, TUNES, and the BEATS too! SO far, there is nothing really CATCHY in hmong music that really catches your ear. Professionals usually find that perfect beat ot tune that will catch your ears attention and somehow control you body to move to it's beat. I've heard nothing like that from the GENERAL HMong musicians.

Ok. Here is a TINY list of hmong people that i use to listen to, from like 76145 years ago..

Green Card, Heard two of his songs
Destiny, liked their song for that FRIENDS JP/KR drama.
PARADISE: none, because i always thought they were OVERRATED!
Sounders: NO idea what their songs are called..
Lue Yaj: some of his older songs are good
daub thoj [SP??] : I just HATE that B!tch!! because she RUDELY dissed my cousin's band when we invited her to one of our parties. Too bad i wasn't there to beat the living SH!T out of her, but, seriously if i see her in person, she'll get my SUPER UPPER-CUT!! ERR!! she better beware when she comes to my state again!!! [you tell her about me if you know her!]
Xanakee: they were alright. but hmong-france is a turnoff for me [No offence] because a lot of Paradise members always sang French in their songs, and it was SUPER ANNOYING!! They sounded so concieted and GAY!! But they are a good group. Good music, even if they stole it from other people.
Whyteshadows had one or two good songs.. and that was it for all their 78264395786 songs that they released.

OK! YOu know those Lue Yang songs. the ones with those actual good beats. THEY WERE ORIGINALLY CHINESE!!
Sorry to burst your bubble, Lue, but your music was just DUBBED with your voice!

C'MON! Even the originals like Lue Yang are fakes, taking other people's music and turning them into their own!
I mean, what about their COPYRIGHTS?! You don't care about that? I hope you get sued someday!!

Oh and last but not least. MY PARENTS LOVE THIS GIRL!!

Mai Xyooj! I think that's her name. OMG.. her voice is nice sometimes but she goes overboard a lot of times!
My parents are like her SUPER FANS! They be thump'in to her music in their super cool Toyota Tacomas and Toyota Vans [forgot the name of the van] .... haha.. It's funny, but her music is just DUBBED JUNK! make your own music please!

Yah! Don't Attack, because if you do then that's just gonna get this thread closed! and please don't PM me about this.
Just post your opinions about my opinions or something like that. BUT PLEASE! Keep it nice, because being mean is UNATTRACTIVE!!

[whoever read all of that, raise you hand!]
*passes out candy for those who raised their hands!*

Aniways... Yeah.. DON"T ATTACK ME!
[all you loyal hmong fans, why are all your banners and stuff all Japanese or Korean and not Hmong?
Is Hmong Entertainment not good enough to be on your sig? Just tell me the truth...............]

P.S. IF you haven't noticed, I AM HMONG and PROUD OF IT..
Just not super proud [at all] of how some hmongs DUB COPYRIGHTED stuff from other countries.
flycmagurl
hm. Don't throw rocks at me or chase me down, but from what I've discovered, I used to think that hmong guys couldn't sing, but lately i've been hearing really good christian hmong guys who sing great! Yea--don't beat me over the head because you think i'm being stereotypical and don't take into offense that i mentioned "christian". But really, lately i've been hearing many christian hmong guys sing so well, it amazes me!

BUT! I do have to say I did have one hmong guy sing to me, who wasn't a christian, and his voice was addicting.

MOVING ON! I don't listen to lots of hmong music, but i do listen to them every now and then. It's upsetting that Paradise ended with their last album, which I personally think was their only good album with amazing girl voices.

I love hearing contemprorary hmong music that doesn't sound fobbish. Don't kill me for saying it. And by fobbish, i mean hmong songs like old Paradise songs, i don't know, hmong rap songs, stuff like that.

I love listening to songs like "Khaiv Kuv Sib Kuv" by Jeff and Cicily. The Youth pastor's wife whom i call NXFChaiv Teeg, she has amazing songs with an amazing voice.

All in all, i think the hmong community is progressing. Again, don't throw rocks at me for saying this, but I see a lot of progress within the Christian hmong community--I've never heard so many talented hmong singers!

Again, don't shoot me!! smile.gif I just wanted to put in some input. That's all.
LoveHLi
*gasps* you guys forgot about xanakee (i think that's how you spelt their name) and my brother's friend, kaishek vang.

shoot man! i'll be back with more hmong artists. i'm not into like whyteshadow or da playaz etc etc etc...but i do like the older groups/singers like luj yaj, sounders, voltage etc..oh and VB Brothers! hahahaa...those are my uncles although they stopped singing like years ago...i think they released like two cds and had a few parties but then they stopped. my sister released her own cd but then she got married and that was the end of her singing days laugh.gif

i'm not really into hmong songs and music but i'm starting to like the more modern hmong singers who don't sing/rap about doing drugs, gettin' laid, and what not....and i hate those hmong girls (some hmong guys too) who sings from their nose....you know that squeaky...i don't know how to describe it but they seriously need to stop singing or at least take some freaken singing classes before they try to sing. that's my opinion and i know most of you guys probably agree with me too. don't be afraid to admit it.

to be continued! laugh.gif i'll be back with more artists and songs and cra.p.

To those people that dislike hmong music: Don't worry, i don't think that people are going to hate you guy, just because you guy's dislike Hmong music or bands. But also don't hate or make fun of the people that like Hmong music.

To those people that like Hmong music: There's no good reason for you the hate or get mad at the people that dislike Hmong music or bands.

It's true that Hmong music are not that good, but people still buy it. Also it's true that some Hmong bands/singers wanna be some other asian/american bands/songers.

I mean I'm proud to be Hmong, but then not that much. I wish I was born to be KOREAN. HAHAHA!!!!! My family told to me that I was an KOREAN REJECTED. I also told my family that one day I will go mary Lee Minwoo. Which that will never happen. Beside, i'll never forget my culture, even throw i really like Korean.

Just like the Hmong bands/singers. Some trying to copy or be like the other asian/american bands/singers. I don't hate or have any problem with that. Because why should I? I'm like them too, want to be something that i'm not. Don't said you DON'T wanna be other asian. If not? Why come to Soompi?

^ sh*t, Im Japanese rejected. LOL

I don't hate on people who like Hmong music, that'll be like hating on someone who likes... rap. =___=;; Geez, I hope nobody hates me just b/c Hmong music isn't my cup of tea. I have no problem with being Hmong. I mean being Japanese would benifit me better though. lol Only just b/c I want to play my games in japanese. laugh.gif ... but thats another story.

Anywho, as I said before I have yet to hear any Hmong artist that actually blow me away with that Hot Hmong skill. laugh.gif

Sounders is the only Hmong band have respect for. phew.gif Most of the others are just a joke to me. Its cool though, I get a good laugh every now and then.
bluecarrot
^dude..you're such a joke

for your information---american idols bite off british idols.. so there fore... what you're saying applies to everyone--- american idols aren't originals..they had to get their style from somewhere--

american idol came out in england before it came out in america===

it's silly how you contradict your own culture---

if you want to find SOME REAL HMONG MUSIC..good luck--- it's already given to you..you're just naive---waiting for more because your 'JAPANESE COMPLEX' makes you want to hear something different.. it's really useless to explain anything to you..so i suggest you not try and attack what i said.. basically..

if hmong had their own music--- what would you think it sounds like? if you're hmong..what do you want hmong music to be? since you think that the hmong music these days... seem to copy other non-hmong artists? i'd like to hear your opinion shoko86..

here are a few links to hmong aritists/groups. some sings in english, some in hmong, some in both languages. i don't really listen to any of them, only like 2 or 3 of them sometimes. my sister and cousins told me to check them out...

...But then during that time when i was really angry about that, I was like criticizing every single thing about the Hmong movies and songs.. and it turns out that...

I've heard nothing like that from the GENERAL HMong musicians....[all you loyal hmong fans, why are all your banners and stuff all Japanese or Korean and not Hmong?

...if hmong had their own music--- what would you think it sounds like? if you're hmong..what do you want hmong music to be? since you think that the hmong music these days... seem to copy other non-hmong artists?

its very true.

to me, there's no such thing as originality anymore. everything comes from something. hmong people [or at least the hmong people i've heard] don't have that many good songs. look at a cd, and about half of it is copied from another person or just stuff that they made to increase the number of songs on the album.

sure, people are criticizing them and saying that they should stay away from the "American" culture. well, look at all those korean people you love so much. they're all westernized. their idols are american/western artists. shouldn't you say something to them, too?

don't get me wrong. i like some hmong music. but the majority that i have heard isn't very good. before hmong people can become more famous, they need to work on a lot of different things, ranging from vocals to music to image. [image is a big thing that they need to work on. and don't say that image is nothing, because we all know why people get famous in the first place.]

i dunno. that's just my opinion.
lKATl
Thanks aznbaby69_79 for sharing the link.

I agree that image is a very big thing too. Though Hmong people are not that good at least I think that they are putting effort into entertaining their own people. I have a cousin who writes and translate songs. And his younger brother sings them.

^ i agree ... hmong singers are not the best right now, but they are puttng effort into it. we have to give them credit for that ...
