you're not offending me or i think no one else....i'm pretty much use to it now with people asking me
hummm...we don't really have our own country...we're a scatter bunch...you'll find hmong people almost anywhere in diffferent parts of the world

Is Jjen a group?
Well...they usually have really meaningful songs...which is a good thing, but they can't rap for crap. The guy(s) can't flow, sorry to say.

Best Hmong rappers, would have to be RARE, and LP is ok too.

As for singers, I still think all the old school singers are better. Like Lue Yang, those Xanakee singers, etc.
The new singers, esp the girls are annoying. That is, Whyteshadows, etc.

Anyways, Hmong Music has changed so dramatically throughout the years. We've come a long way and i have to say that i'm super proud. There's so much talent out there in the Hmong community that most hmong people/people don't even know about and most of these talents are underground artists. Of course everyone has their own opinion, but before judging and saying that you dislike hmong music or that there's nothing good/original about it... do some research, you'll be suprise.

i think hmong songs when translated, sorta loses its meaning.
but i still like 'em.

and just commenting on the many previous replies...

- not only the bad voices get record labels.
everyone has their own range of singing and you cant expect everyone to bellow out notes.

- hmong songs arent stupid. and they are not dumb.
every music is different and unique. lay off.

I know E.T yang....he was my brother's best friend back when they were in High school...now all he does is go to Thailand and make movies or music videos...

I do like Hmong music, but sometimes, the same lyrics are getting used again and again. Also, there's too many remakes of one song...if it's a good song, it'll be remade at least 4 times by a few people.

^^ yeah there sure is a lot of remake. i didn't know there was a hmong music thread. but i do like the really old songs back in the days by Lue Yaj and the older singers. I don't really listen to hmong american songs except the Christian hmong songs. But i do like some of the recent hmong songs by the singers from Thailand or Laos.

i haven't heard of Proto-J. but RARE i do like one of their songs. i don't know the title but it's something about "HMONG" their live perf was really good too. And one of the guy is my cousin. They went and try out for SM Town when SM came to Chicago but then i didn't get to ask him the other day what they receive back from SM.

i went on a rampage searching for hmong singers on myspace and found some very good singers. there are some very talented young hmong artists but it's hard to find them b/c all or most are underground except for those who actually has a bit of money to come out with albums in the hmong community.

one of my all time favorite hmong sad love song is Ib Zaug Ntxiv by Xu Yang... it's an older i think early 90's to even late 80's song. it's soo sad.

oh really... well i'm kinda an old fart here. a guy friend introduced it to me back in 1994 when i was going through my first teeny bopper heart break... haha.. i'm might've been exaggerating that it's from the late 80's but i heard that Xu resung a more modern version of this song... i never heard it though, if you had let us know.

Is it just me or is it that hmong green can sing very well! I'm hmong white but I think that their acent makes it sound nice, like proto-j he has a very good voice when he sings in hmong. Rare I think most of them are hmong green and they rap really good.

To hear is music you can go to MySpace Music and just type in "Proto-J". He sings soul, acoustic, R&B, ballad, hip hop.

Anybody else heard of Kiana Lauj? I think she's a 90'er. But she's pretty good. She sings and rap.

Well I've been listening to a lot of Hmong music lately.
And I'm so addicted to "sweet melody" Jeff and Cicily have such nice voices.
They have very nice christian songs too but I'm not christian but I still listen to it. LOL

But I only found the girl version to it. I have no idea who sings the original guy version. Thanks! btw, I love the Hmong band "Paradise", their last album was awesome! That April Vang girl is very talented. I hope she creates her own solo album. IIU also has a very good song too, "Baby don't you cry." I love the English and Hmong version. The Hmong version felt a lot more meaningful to me though. I think it express the guy's feelings for the girl a lot more than the English version.

I don't know what movie you're talking about but then yeah I agree the hmong version to IIU was better in hmong it does have more meaning. Sometimes things looses it's meaning when it's translated. I still like both versions though.

i love how the hmong words are so poetic... sometime translating is hard.

Yeah I love the lyrics to hmong songs. They are meaningfull. Hmong songs are the bomb. A lot of my friends don't like hmong songs, but I do. They're the best. Though they translate a lot of the songs a lot of the songs turn out good.

I like that song. Its called Nyob Qob Twb .. or something close to that. I have Panhia Ciong's version and it sounds awesome. Her's is really jazzy so it sounds different than the rest.
