There really isn't a lot of good hmong bands.. the guys sounds hecka hilarious.. I hate the tone of voice they use.. that sweet tone.. ewww.. major turn off.. hahha..

the only hmong bands I like are:
High Voltage gotta love them.. ^__^ my cousin sang ib sim neej with that guy. biggrin.gif
Paradise.. the newer group
Whyteshadows.

omg seriously, i am Hmong too & the thing I hate so much about some Hmong groups is that they try to use that sweet tone....it annoys me so I don't like listening to most Hmong music. The only artists that I will listen to is Paradise, Whyteshadow, & yes I admit w/ no shame...Luj Yaj. smile.gif
ultaeja
^ haha ditto^^

I've never seen this thread around O_O.
but the singers I listen to are umm.. Luj Yaj(i like his old songs^^).
Newer groups/singers I listen to are Pagnia ^^;; (Her sister goes on soompi too^^)
Pagnia has a nice voice, although some of her songs aren't really really good(i onlyliked2songsinheralbum)
I don't listen to Hmong music that much, but there are a lot lot of hmong singers that aren't talented.

i think hmong songs....
i think as of now... i still like the older singers.
the more newer songs, i'll take time to like,
but singers like lu yaj, me like.
thanks.

I just bought The Kong & Shu Project cd at the Fresno HNY. They're an acoustic duo and I think they're pretty good. But I like Shu's voice better but Kong sings most of the time.

Plus Shu is also a solo artist but he sings in english. He already had a cd out for some time already. I guess he's sort of alternative rock and indie and acoustic. He has a nice voice too. You can find his myspace by going to myspace music and typing in Shu Lor.
forever_PGD
hahaha...didn't know they had a forum for hmong music
i'm hmong....
i like Mai Xyooj
and Kiana Lauj.... LP....CHICSPITTENFIRE....RAPPERS

Hey, do you any of guys know who sings that one song from that Thai movie that got dubbed by Hmong. It was the Mai Lee or Mai See, or at least something like that. God, I love that Hmong song! But I only found the girl version to it. I have no idea who sings the original guy version. Thanks! btw, I love the Hmong band "Paradise", their last album was awesome! That April Vang girl is very talented. I hope she creates her own solo album. IIU also has a very good song too, "Baby don't you cry." I love the English and Hmong version. The Hmong version felt a lot more meaningful to me though. I think it express the guy's feelings for the girl a lot more than the English version.

Are you talking about that 'Lis Ceeb' movie? Well, I think I know what you're talking about. The song is called 'Koj Nyob Qhov Twg' but nowadays, Hmong people started to call it 'Ntuj No Tuaj Lawm'. It's originally sang by Lis Pov. There have been many re-mades of this song. But I always liked the original better. Go youtube it and you'll see lots of acoustic videos on that song.
ihlubdbsg
^That song is a classic. xD

I like the older songs too.
Xanakee's got some pretty talented singers. xD
Paradise's last album was pretty nice too.
Some of the songs really showed how much their vocals have improved.
I really like VIM MUAJ KOJ (DUET)
April and Long's voices sound so lovely here.
Whyte Shadow's not bad either...
I really like their song KHOOM PLIG.
The melody is pretty and the lyrics are <3. biggrin.gif
I'm not too big on Hmong rapping but BUDDAH's SONG HERE isn't that bad. Props to him.
It's not in Hmong though...xD

Anyhow, i need to get into Hmong music again.
Sounders is my favorite.. And i wonder when they'll be back.
Because... i need to get back into Hmong music..
It's much harder now too b/c of going away for college,
i don't have my mom there w/ the radio on to leave me no choice but to listen to Hmong music. sweatingbullets.gif
There are awesome hmong soompiers that i think should make demos though... =)
hammy_chan

You can also find more hmong music and movies plus other varieties at : http://www.hmb.cc/forum.
fabrications.
*sigh* There's some good Hmong songs, but not many. So I don't like listening to them a lot.
But I love Destiny's song....what was it called...Just For Love or something?
And the songs in the movie Tou and Mai were realllly good too. ^^
Straznmx
I am actully not hmong but I have to admit it I use to listen to hmong music back in the day. I would listen to Paradise or whyteshadow. Some of it was actully good. Except I was never fan of any of their music videos.

My brother and sister in law's first dance as husband and wife was Just for Love and it was sung by my other brother. They're wedding theme was even titled "Just for Love."

I agree, never knew this thread existed, but I just happen to see it today while looking for other threads!!...I listen to a few hmong songs, and I do know a few great hmong singers from my town, their voices just totally wows me!!...I hope that in the future, hmong singers will be heard even more!!..I think we're still at that level of evolving(not literally)into something bigger. I love hmong people, and proud to be one!!!

LOL~ It was hilari-oso when I told most of the bands up on my list that I put recommended them in a Korean Pop-culture forum... LOL~
-Oh yeah Tousue is a resident in Minneapolis and he is the head singer for his band: A day forward. There is his solo and band, so it's awesome to see both actually. You can see some of the vids i've recorded on Youtube!

About the artists... Yeah I know most of them... well all of them actually. A lot of them come to the Twin Cities to do some gigs and shows, esp. in St. Paul. You'll probably never heard of them because it's kinda hard to promote themselves in places that don't really like Hmong singers. So, there are many more out there that i'm more than willing to listen and support!

If any of you want to ever see a show that they do, go check out CHAT (center for hmong arts and talent) - most of you probably heard and see or attended at one of their events. But here is their website: www.aboutchat.org - or - check them about on myspace: www.myspace.com/aboutchat

Kaishek's "Nco Kuv Me Me (Miss Me a Little)"

and some others.

Anyone here knows the rapper/comedian Tou Ger Xiong? His song "go hmong boy". Well he came today to our school for our Asian Club meetings after school. It was fun. He told some jokes and rapped 3 songs. I remembered he came to my elementary school when I was little. At asian club they were also giving free shirts that said "GOT RICE" but too sad I didn't get one. But anyone know him?

So I 'm looking for a Hmong song dedicated to parents. I don't really listen to much Hmong music so I don't even know where to start looking. I want the song to be in Hmong so does anyone have any recommendations about songs that thank parents or talk about parents' love and stuff like that? If so, please tell me and where I can find it.

This the biggest problem about Hmong music these days...everyone is singing in English. I know lots of people are only supporting because they are Hmong people who are actually doing something and coming out with stuff to listen to...but seriously...sing in HMONG. We don't really want to listen to you if you are going to sing in English...you are not distinctive when you sing in English. You can sing a line or two in English, but not the whole song.

If you don't know how to sing in Hmong...then you need to really learn how to speak Hmong again.
songielove
I'm probably really late to this, but i've had Winner's "Koj Ib Leeg" (ft. Marie Xiong) on repeat for a couple of weeks.
It reminds me so much of my late brother and my sister-in-law. tears.gif
Beautiful song.* I love how we can hear their French Hmong accent. blush.gif *lovely*

WoWzers...
I do have to admit I can be a bit fobby around my parents..,

Yeah! Finally a Hmong music forum.

Whenever my parents drive they only listen to the hmong radio.

Cosette You are right that a lot of people now do sing in English instead of Hmong.

There's a song that I really like rapped by Plucky, it's in English though.

Plucky song on youtube
