Full Version: Why do people make it a competetion between...
soompi forums > soompi entertainment > other music

Aish this is gettin sooo bad u have no idea!!
It really is, people who like asian music putting down american music
people who like american music putting down asian music!
People wanting Asian artists to conquer america's artists in there own countries
and vice versa!
This is getting bad, especially with the Plagerizing situation going on and Bi's plans to debut in america.
Can't we all just appreciate music in general???
I just hope one day it will stop!
I'm not trying to start a war or anything, but I just wanna know why people say mean things about each others industries all the time!
It's really bad, but not everyone thinks like me so I cant expect it.
But on both sides the fans can be very bias!
People think Asian artists don't have a chance in america, but you'll never know!
I'm not even sure if u all see it but I do.
I greatly appreciate both!
But I just hate the way people talk about america's music and stuff it just bothers me!

hm. i can actually apply psychology to this LOL sleep.gif ingroup bias - the tendency to favor one's own group.

anyway, if an asian song and an american english song sound similar, people start blaming the other that the song was imitated and stolen from their own country. especially when that person is prejudiced against other songs from their own country. sometimes i have the feeling, but i know it's because i'm being irrational.

Okay, people are always saying bad stuff about american music compared to K-pop and vice versa!
Hyori is in Big trouble for ripping off Britney Spear's "Do Sumthin"
And Bi will debut in america in October Whoot Whoot!
There u go!
VersusVillain
They both have their hits and misses. There is so much crappy music right now in every part of the world, it's not even funny.
And BoA copying Britney Spears really shouldn't matter, given they both suck and have minimal talent.

^ laugh.gif "Omfg ur song riter copyed off of mi song riter u bich!"

Ah I thought it was Hyori's "Get Ya" that got her producers sued by Britney Spears' producers for the song "Do Somethin'"? Eh anyways who cares..close to none of the pop artists in their category write or pick their own songs anyway sleep.gif

I used to be totally into American music all the way, with my tastes spanning from Stevie Wonder to Celine Dion to Usher/Justin Timberlake, Alison Krauss and Union Station (country), Nek(Spanish), The Dixie Chicks, The Killers, Death Cab for Cutie..I could just go on and on. I may have been wrong, and my tastes might have been too wide and varied to have an honest "focus" of attention anyway, but when I was introduced to Asian music I was immediately loyal to it...pretty much always on its side. I think most of that loyalty comes from having my Asian music repeatedly attacked by my friends, whether it be "haha those dudes are such f4gs they look like women!!" or "why can't they be unique? why do they have to do rock/hip hop like Americans?" or "Oh he definitely stole that song from *insert random American artist*". Whenever a comment like that would fly my way, my knee-jerk reaction would basically be yeah, but these guys are way better at what they do then *YOUR BAND* could ever be.

I have always had immense respect for very dedicated and talented artists, no matter what country they come from or language they speak. But here in America, when my taste in music is the minority and Americans think they're the original and the best and the only ones deserving of everything dry.gif , I definitely fight back defending Asian music.

I agree!
And I agree with azn@heart!
I will defend both sides, I'm not in favor of anything I just don't like the competetion people are making!
They both have freakin pros and cons!
But I know american artists can sound the same but I really must admit the korean music, not even the japanese music, I don't listen to chinese, but I have heard so many korean songs that sound exactly like american songs and then people will say "Oh K-pop is better anyway" even if the artist copied without permission or there will be mad proof in there face that the songs are similar no one will admit it!
That just bothers me, I luv my american music and I'm glad I was introduced to K-pop and J-pop
but sometimes I feel like people expect me to sell out to asian music all of a sudden,
I'll never give up on my american music ever! It's not a crime to like different stuff!

I do think that sometimes Asian artists imitate American artists... But that makes sense when it comes to music genres that came from the U.S. in the first place, and if they're actually talented I don't see how it's THAT bad. Besides, I think the music industries in the U.S. and in Asia are so vast that you really can't generalize either. They both have their bad artists, their good artists, their overrated artists, and their underrated artists. I wish more non-Asian Americans would give Asian music a chance, and I wish more Asian-Americans would cease the favoritist/elitist attitudes that claim Asian music is consistently superior. Personally, I think liking a variety is a good thing. In fact, I strongly support collaborations and unity of the music cultures, not competition.
(This is why I got so excited when I heard Bi would be on Lil' Kim's record, when I saw footage of Jin performing with Lee Hom Wang, when I read that Utada would be releasing an album in the U.S., when I found out Epik High was featuring Snoop Dogg, Warren G, and Nate Dogg on a track... Unfortunately, all 4 of these turned out to be disappointments for me. sad.gif )
