Can I ask something?

After following your tutorials, where do i start? I mean like do you need any specify programme to type korean? Thanks for your help.
theedqueen
um, not quite sure what you're asking for specifically, but if you follow awdark's directions, then after you've set your computer to add the Korean keyboard, you can look to the right hand part of your taskbar and there should be this box there now that says "EN". If you click on that and you've added korean properly, there should be the option of either choosing that or "KO" (korean). After that, just hit the right alt key once and you should be able to type in Korean. And no there is no program you need for this, your computer should already be equipped with everything you need.

when i tried to install the east asian languages, it asked me to insert the windows professional cd, which i don't have....

any other ways to download korean onto my computer?
awdark
Uh not really. Do you have any disks that came with your computer? Sometimes things are stored on some recovery disk.
RiA
I've always had that little language bar tab on my taskbar, but I never knew I could type Korean with it! Thanks for the tut! ^^

If I do that, I can still type in english? because I only need korean sometimes. oh, do I need a korean keyboard?

Nope, you can switch back and forth between English and Korean by switching that language box in you taskbar from "EN" to "KO". Also if you're in "KO" mode, hitting the right "alt" key will switch back and forth between English and Korean. As for a Korean keyboard, your computer will switch to Korean keyboard layout so you can basically type in _any_ language you want as long as you have configured your computer to do so. Your keys are just labled with latin characters is all.

here's a layout of korean keys from wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Keyboar...yout_Hangul.png

it's actually pretty easy to get the hang of it. I love typing in korean, trying to be able to get to the point where I don't even have to think about it like I do in english.

it doesn't work for me =( . When i try to find korean font it's not even on the drop down list. Even after i marked Install east asian fonts.
theedqueen
have you tried just typing and seeing what happens? Usually for me, once I switch from "EN" to "KO", whatever program I'm using will automatically switch to a font that supports Korean. Are you specifically looking for something that says "Korean" in it? Because it won't. Windows usually switches to a font called Batang to type in Korean sorta like Times New Roman for english. Try looking for that and see what happens.
정유미
yeah, it doesn't work for me either... it's weird cause my microsoft office programs can read korean but i can't type korean...

I'm on my sister's computer, and i tried to install korean about 4-5 times and the language bar doesn't seem to come up. I tried the little "language bar" button on the tab thingy, but it didn't work. Everything is in the way it should be. I have it working on my computer, but it won't work on this vaio laptop. if anyone could help, that would be great.
system
For those who added 'KO' to the language bar...
you can remove 'EN' and bypass the hassle of switching between 'EN' and 'KO'.

'KO' already has a built-in English which acts the same as 'EN'.
So all you have to do is hit the right Alt key (some people might be using a different method) and switch between A (English) and (Korean).

First, close/exit ALL applications.
You must have 'KO' or at least one other language added to the list or the 'Remove' button will be grayed-out.
Go to the screen above and click/highlight EN English (United States) and select 'Remove'.

Restart PC.

There, now you don't have to drag your mouse and click on the taskbar to change 'EN' or 'KO'.

how do you do this on a mac? lol smile.gif

theedqueen
You mean the "KO"/"EN" box? Try right clicking on your toolbar and click "toolbars" in the popup menu and make sure "language bar" is checked marked.
mal3ficum
o _ o...if anyone still needs help you can always go to this site..-> www.zkorean.com

click Korean Fonts and then..if you wanna view korean in your net browser its 'Browser Setup' and to type in korean you click 'Computer Setup'.

there's the korean keyboard layout on the bottom (but its really tiny so if you want my enlargened version just ask).

the site's really good. im teaching myself korean from it wink.gif..but i guess i won't learn much except for the 'alphabet' and how to pronounce the characters/words

catchthesky.
I find this weird. Cause you can't type in korean unless you BUY the korean version of Windows XP. -0- And yeah, I had to reinstall EVERYTHING on my computer by replacing a new version. and in korean.

FAQ:
You can type in korean by pressing ALT and it changes into korean.
theedqueen
uh....I don't think so. I have the US version of Windows XP and I've sucessfully enabled korean type on my laptop. And I think it's like that for everybody in this thread. I mean, why would you have to go through installing korean type if you already have the korean version of windows?

advent.shk
i tried this a while ago and it didnt work =(. It kept switching back to the english and wouldnt type in korean when it did stay in korean.
YELL;OH
to just type in korean, go to [download.com] and look up [AsianSuite]. there's a 6O day trial, or you can buy it~ but if you want to change your whole computer into korean... err you might want to buy a different program.
