MTV Asia Awards 2006 held on May 6, 2006 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The winners of the MTV Asia Awards 2006 are:
Favourite Artist Mainland China - Vicki Zhao
Favourite Artist Hong Kong - Twins
Favourite Artist India - Jal
Favourite Artist Indonesia - Peterpan
Favourite Artist Korea - Se7en
Favourite Artist Malaysia - Mawi
Favourite Artist Philippines - Rivermaya
Favourite Artist Singapore - Taufik Batisah
Favourite Artist Taiwan - Wang Leehom
Favourite Artist Thailand - Tata Young

Favourite Male Artist - Ricky Martin
Favourite Female Artist - Kelly Clarkson

Favourite Video - "Twisted Transistor" by Korn
Favourite Breakthrough Artist - Simon Webbe

The Style Awards - Jolin Tsai
Special Achievement In Popular Music - Destiny’s Child
The Inspiration Award - Bird Thongchai McIntyre
Breakthrough Collaboration Japan - TERIYAKI BOYZ

Host city Bangkok got a special treat as Thai hip-hop group Thaitanium jammed with Simon Webbe in a rousing performance of "No Worries," and Webbe's Blue bandmate Lee Ryan partnered with Thai pop goddess Tata Young for their version of the classic ballad "Endless Love." As the night of award presentations and performances went on, the energy was palatable as Taiwanese favourite Jolin Tsai raised temperatures and eyebrows with a sexy performance of "Dancing Diva," Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Powter got behind the piano and wowed the audience with a live version his massive hit, "Bad Day," and award-winning TERIYAKI BOYZ brought the house down with their first ever live performance outside of Japan. The night of star-studded action continued with returning favourites Hoobastank and Rivermaya taking the stage, and MTV's biggest night in Asia ended with Korea's Kangta joining forces with Taiwan's Vanness Wu for a rousing finale duet performance of "2nd Scandal."

Presenters at the event included Vicki Zhao, Maggie Q, Same Same, Taufik, Too Phat, Lukkade Metinee, Sean Roh, The Veronicas, Ahli Fiqir, Peter Corp, Marsha, Jal, and Chang Chen. The Siam Paragon and red carpet arrivals event prior to the MTV Asia Awards were flooded with music, film and television stars from around the world, all converging upon Bangkok to celebrate one of the biggest music events in Asia.

I watched it yesterday (TV)...

aiyo... there were quite a number of mistakes.. XDD It was really funny how they paired up some people who knew english wittosewho know only little. XDD I thought Zhao Wei and Vanness were funny. (not in a offensive manner or anythin). Then, Maggie Q looked quite dumfounded for a moment. XDD Twin and Daniel Powter.. XDD It was really uneasy for thos who can speak english cause they cant really converse with their co-presenters. XDD

I loved Se7en's performance! But I loved Rivermaya's perf more. XDD Jolin's was not too shabby either but her "thank you" speech made me laugh a little. smile.gif The "hot part" was quite unexpected. XDD Kangta and Vanness did quite well too except for the parts where it sounded like Kangta was running out of breath. (With all that dancing, who wouldnt be?)

>< too many.
Lene
Didn't like the pair, Lee hom and Rowland, hosting together. There wasn't much chemistry between the both of them. Leehom was good. Can't say the same for Rowland though(as much as i love her). It would have been better if it is Lee hom and Clarkson hosting the MAA together.

About the performances. I liked Vanness and Kangta's performance. The song was upbeat and nice. Se7en's performance was good too, however, he seems breathless halfway through the performance, same goes for Kangta. Jolin lipsyncing at the award is a big nono.

I was expecting JJ Lin Jun Jie to bag the Favourite Artist Singapore, but instead Taufik was the one who got it.-.-
Seraphic_Gin
^ you said it all.

the awards show was kinda lame..i was comparing it to the older ones in singapore..where there are so many upbeat collabo's..

and the foreign artists are actually won are not there..i mean, what was that?
asian artists were there.

kelly rowland was good. i loved her. maybe the chemistry just didn't work.

and can i just add that 7 has such a great perf?! the crowd really blended with him. he can carry it. he can do it - good. way good.
ae4azns
^^^^^ for those that watched it do you live in the U.S. and if so, what channel was it on?

>_<

Backstreet Boys won an award?? COOL!
weird&short
Ricky martin? BSB? this is 2006 right? lol i remember them...from 8 years ago!

Congrats to Leehom and Se7en. They deserved them.

[edit] OH i just watched the Kangta and Vanness Duet.. I don't like it. I don't know, maybe it's the song. I can't even tell what language they're singing. i was expecting mandarin.. but i think it's korean and vanness raps in english? lol
tis a wonderful life
backstreet boys are still here, never gone! yay, i love them.
and se7en won, hahaha..that doesn't seem to surprise me since he is absolutely amazingly talented and totally deserves the award.

like alot of ppl have been asking, will it be aired or anyone gonna upload it onto a site like youtube or anything caus i would be sooooooooo grateful if you do.
hyuksu

I don't think it is braodcasted in USA, but this year doesn't have they hype than last year eventhough the sound system are better. I really like Wang lee hom, SE7EN and jolin tsai perf. It was quite boring with the spectactor there aren't shouting untill their country singers came out.

That happened when the MAA was held in Singapore too. The reason is there ain't many Asian artists (esp. in SEAsia) that really manage to cross borders.

Actually, if you want loud applause from Thai audiences, just vote your artists who're pretty-boy or pretty girl type and no matter how bad they sing (or lip-sync) , the Thai audiences will absolutely scream for them. LOL

Actually, if I were there, I would have screamed for Korn & Rivermaya of Philippines 'cause their live perfs were superb. Maybe there weren't many rock fans that night.

Singapore vs. Thailand = Singapore is way more diverse so of course their audience listens to plenty of different genres and also in different languages. Thailand, they mainly listen to...Thai.

I like how they changed it up and hosted it at a different country, wonder where it's going to be at next year...
chuchi
the MAA this year is just....nice. I love the performances of Rivermaya, Se7en and Kangta and Vanness. Though, i still like the previous MAAs.
someday4_2
i really want to see jolin's perf since everyone's talking about how great her performance was =X
strawberry-
i just cant believe... BSB n Ricky Martin won MAA....??? so... 90s..

omo... so Asian taste.... cough** like im not an asian...

but..... a bit dissapointed with MAA this year....

No..we're listening to different genres too (J-Pop, K-Pop, US-Pop, UK-Pop, C-Pop, etc). Yeah...most people go for Thai pop but as of our big number population ... a small percentage of those who're listening to foreign musics means a lot of people too. So, the number of album sales that will come after the artists' appearances might be big too. And both MAA that were held here (2005 & 2006) have created a lot of impacts to Thailand's music market...we tend to listen Asian pop more than ever before.

Here goes our current foreign music charts.

Channel [v] Thailand

1 Control Myself, LL Cool J Feat. Jennifer Lopez
2 Bokuno Kimochi (My Heart), Wat
3 Always There, Dong Bang Shin Gi
4 Hips Don't Lie, Shakira
5 Real Face, Kat - tun
6 Miracle, Super Junior
7 I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor, Arctic Monkeys
8 Dani California, Red Hot Chilli Peppers
9 Put Your Records On, Corinne Bailey Rae
10 For You I Will (Confidence), Teddy Geiger

[MTV Thailand International Chart ] Week 18 / 29 April - 5 May 2006

1 Put Your Records On Corinne Bailey Rae EMI 9 1
2 Hips Don't Lie Shakira SONY BMG 6 2
3 2Pump It Black Eyed Peas UMG 8 1
4 6After All This Time Simon Webbe EMI 5 4
5 Big City, Little Love Wang Lee Hom SONY BMG 4 5
6 So Sick NE-YO UMG 6 5
7 Walk Away Kelly Clarkson SONY BMG 5 7
8 Stupid Girls PINK SONY BMG 10 1
9 Dani California Red Hot Chili Peppers WEA 4 9
10 ฝรั่งจ๋า SAME SAME Feat. อาภาพร นครสวรรค์ SONY BMG 6 9

^^ I think this is called diversity.

Anyway, I agree that next year the MAA should be held at somewhere else which has never hosted it yet.
BiNueng
Hey, I'm Thai and I've been to the MAA2006 too! tongue.gif
I think the sound system was a LOT more better than last year^^
The whole event was pretty good too. (but i prefer last year, coz there was JAY CHOU!!!)

Although everyone thinks that we don't scream for other Asian stars except our own Thai stars, at least me and my friends did scream like crazyyyyy for every single celeb!!! lolz

And I think many of us did that too...really!! we support everyone! but u have to understand that it was so tired to stand, jumb, dance and sceam for many hours from red carpet to the main event (It was like from 4pm till 11pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ph34r.gif )

I didn't listen to Thai music that much but i can't deny that THAITANIUM is sooooooo darn hotttt!!!
You guys should try their songs! w00t.gif

PS. I can't wait for the next MAA to come! It must be great~
Hope i still have a chance to go there coz i guess it won't be held in Thailand again, right?
I'm quite sad but well other asian countries should have a chance too! biggrin.gif
polabola
I think this year's awards show is nice, more organized than the previous years happy.gif

I don't like Jolin's performance at all. Her lypsincing is b.a.d. and her performance outfit was like WTF???

I also don't like Kangta and Vaness's performance. Since it's the last one, I actually turned my tv off...

I love the rock performances and also the hip hop ones who are really hip hop instead of pretending to be all gangster happy.gif. I thought they were good.

Ricky Martin shouldn't have won, he's not generating hits anymore

I don't get why MTV Asia features Western artists more than Asian ones. More Asian artists show up but the awards are so general and unspecific.

Bleh.
