I know alot of asian-americans here listen to stuff like 50 Cent, Eminem, Fall-Out Boy, Mario, Ne-Yo, Mariah Carey, iono rock music muscians n stuff iono i dont listen to mainstream much but c'mon. What about us? our people are out their too.
Alot of people hear tha thought about an Asian-American pop singer or rapper and tha first thing most people do is laugh, "AN ASIAN RAPPER OR SINGER? THATS CRAZY!" Mind you not all, but a good majority do.
See now racism exists, and alot of us understand it, but when OUR OWN PEOPLE LAUGH AT US, then thats where we have a problem. None of us will ever make it if we dont stand by eachother and help support one another. One man can only do so much, but with the help of others, hopefully we'll be seeing more Asian-Americans in the american entertainment industry in the future.
The problem is us as Asian-Americans DON'T KNOW WHO WE ARE, we worry too much and try to hard to ASSIMILATE ourselves to fit in with other races and cultures that we don't where we are from and what we are. Not only are we unrecognized by tha media but EVEN WE DON'T RECOGNIZEwho we are.
CAN I GET A AMEN!? hah always wanted to say that, neway.....
In a industry dominated with Caucasians, Africans and Latinos in movies, tv, and radio. Asians are tossed aside because TO CERTAIN PEOPLE we are not talented and cannot afford nething to the entertainment industry and is instead, are stereotypically typecast as [size=2]"THE KUNG FU GUY, THE SMART GUY, THE BAND GEEK, THE SMARTIE PANTS, THE NERD or THE GUY WHO SHOOTS UZIs WHILE BEING IN A BIKE GANG (Sorry I was thinking bout Fast And The Furious, hah). And what do we do? Most of us just sits there and accept it.
ahh neway im gettin sidetracked on the origonal purpose of this thread

6TH DAY (R&B // POP // SOUL) 4 Member Filipino-American Group

"SWAY" from American-Idol is part of this group
6th Day consists of 4 individuals, Errol and Drey formerly from a group called Kai (Geffen Records), Cyrus formerly from Innerlude (Straight Hits Records), and Sway from Drop N Harmony (Classified Records). Yup, we're Filipino... Don't adjust your monitors or your speakers. We really are asian... Most see us and don't hesitate to racially profile us, crack a joke, doubt our craft... But that's okay, we already expect that. Our journey spans over a decade and we've been through every hardship and sacrifice a group can go through. We've been chippin' away at our goals one by one, the Apollo Theatre, world tours, the billboard charts, radio, TV, even sing for Boyz II Men, the group that started it all for us. We've put a check in front of all of these thing already and we have a couple more to accomplish. It's funny though. The more things we check off on our list, the harder it is to accomplish the rest of them. Why is that? It all goes back to one thing. We're yellow, we're brown. That's right. Most will ask us, "Well, why do you all make your skin color an issue?" In all honesty, we don't make it an issue, but every music executive we've met and sang for says that it is an issue. "Y'all are tight, it's rare to find an R&B group where all y'all can sing! But y'all are asian... So good luck to y'all"... Time and time again, we're tired of that response.
We've gotten that time and time again, from some of the biggest executives in the business. They acknowledge our talents, but are too afraid to believe in something that has never been done before. It truly ain't about talent any more. Mainstream America says there's no market or niche out there for us... We disagree...

Far-East Movement (Hip-Hop // Alternative Hip-Hop) 2 Korean-Americans and 1 Japanese-American

An influential group in the rising Asian American music scene, The Far*East Movement (FM) was formed by emcees: Kev Nish (Kevin Nishimura), Prohgress (James Roh), and J-Splif (Jae Choung). The three childhood friends found their love for music fresh out of high school and created recognition for the group in the Los Angeles underground scene through energetic live shows and a strong Internet presence. In 2003, FM produced their own large-scale hip hop show in Koreatown called “Movementality”, to benefit a local drug rehabilitation center. Through this event they were discovered by international club/ events promoter, Carl Choi, who shared the vision of strengthening the identity of Asian Americans in the entertainment industy, helping the Far*East Movement achieve global notoriety.
The group released their first mixtape, the “AudioBio” in 2005, distributing over 20,000 copies independently. The compilation, which is an introduction into the world of the FM, includes guest appearances from artists such as DJ Honda and Jin the Emcee. The “Audio Bio” opened the door for FM into television media, gaining them features on the Si TV Network, the AZN TV Network, UPN, and the show ‘Crime Scene Investigation’ (C.S.I.). In the summer of 2005 the trio embarked on their first world tour, performing in cities such as Seattle, Houston, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Singapore. At the present time, The Far*East Movement continues on its rigorous show schedule while also adding the finishing touches to their debut album, which is slated for release in the first quarter of 2006.

Snacky Chan (Hip-Hop // Rap) Korean-American

Roy Kim, otherwise known as 'Chan' or 'Snacky Chan,' is a hip hop emcee originally hailing from New Jersey, currently doing his thing in Boston, Massachussetts. Chan has established himself over the years as an emcee with 'true to the art' skills, proving his abilities in underground hip hop venues across the country.
Hip Hop afficianados first took notice of Chan when he dropped his first 12"(vinyl) offering, 'Politickin w/ Chan,' b/w 'Big in Japan,' in September of '01 on Detonator Records. 'Chairman Mao,' music critic/reviewer at XXL magazine went so far as to say that "...Chan is the rugged-est, most skilled Asian-American MC I've heard yet - actually, he's pretty dope on any scale..."
Chan's songs have also featured on well known, and critically acclaimed compilation albums including the Detonator Records 'Volume 1' Compilation, as well as 'Home,' an album boasting a fine collection of the Beantown's hottest upcoming and veteran talents.
As a result of Chan's hard work in '01, he was nominated 'Best New Rap/Hip-Hop Act,' in the 15th annual Boston Music Awards and has blessed the stage with some of hip hop's finest including, Guru(Gangstarr), Jeru tha Damaja, Talib Kweli, Cormega, Jedi Mind Tricks, Krumbsnatcha, Jin tha MC, Mr.Lif, Black Moon, Boot Camp Clique, and many, many more.
After succesfully completing a nationwide tour that spanned the entire east coast, midwest, and dirty south with Detonator Records, Chan devoted himself to the writing and recording of his highly anticpated debut album 'Part of the Nation,' which was released in the Fall of '04 under Chan's own start-up record label 'Dynasty Muzik.'
Remaining raw, Chan's overall musical message remains insightful, intelligent, spiritual, and humorous. A strong advocate in breaking new ground for Asians in hip hop and media in general.

Roscoe Umali (Hip-Hop // Rap) Filipino-American

^thats right folks, ur not seeing things, its Roscoe IN BED with Jeri Lee
Until recently, Roscoe Umali was mainly known as one of the members of the korean rap group "Drunken Tiger" but now he is finally breaking out on his own.
I don't really have a good bio on him yet so tha description bout his music vid will have to do.
If ya'll haven't heard of Roscoe yet, you are in for a major surprise. Roscoe was a previous member of the band Drunken Tiger, who had the biggest impact in Korea's hip hop history in the late 90's. Roscoe is now taking the solo route, taking his music and his roots out here to America.
In this video, Roscoe drops verses from two songs into one video, "Rhyme State" and "Gettin' Mine".
The video was directed by Todd Angkasuwan, the same director that did Jin's "Top 5" and Chan's "Lonely Road". Cameo's in the video include a list of major players, including import models Jeri Lee, Kaila Yu, along with Far East Movement and Cedric the Entertainer.
Look out for Roscoe's enhanced CD mixtape coming out soon, featuring this video along with exclusive footage of Jeri Lee.

Its a slim chance that ne of them would be signed, why? cuz its tha industry's fault, Why wouldnt tha industry sign asian-americans? its cuz we're different, they judge us by the color of our skin and looks and not by our talents and skills. Being different, they fear us, they fear what is different and what they do not reconigze so they automatically label us as "unworthy".
Anyways as u can probably tell, im a hip hop and R&B fan, but there are also other Asian-American entertainers out there who specialize in ROCK, METAL, PUNK ROCK, TECHNO, Classical and stuff. But I'm to laze to post it all. haha.
i no im missin One Voice and Kaila Yu but gaah its late!
neways hope u guys here see sumthin u like and help support Asian-Americans, feel free to add ne others u like.
