Hello, there!
I was scanning through the sports forum today and I realized that there were little to no topics about fencing.
Being an amateur fencer myself, I decided to post a topic about it.
Do any of you fence?
I do. I've been fencing for two years yet I still stink like a dung beetle. Oof.
Anything regarding fencing can be discussed here. :]

Its a form of fighting right?
I guess you could say so. It's pretty much sport sword fighting.
Here's an article explaining more in depth about it:

Wow, haha. This topic got completely buried under all of the football, basketball, etc. talk. I'm a foil fencer although I practiced epee at the NSFC sometimes. I used to fence foil at the FC in downtown NY but I don't have a lot of time anymore so I only practice with my team at school nowadays.
I've been fencing for a little over a year. If I dedicated myself and went to practice like my coach tells me to, I'd probably be going to summer nationals this year. But, honestly, I'm terribly lazy so I doubt my varsity team will even be able to take city championships, haha.
I swear, if I keep going at this rate, I'll barely be able to parry anymore.
Eugggghhhh.

i just started fencing about one year ago... I'm uber lazy and it's fun but training is not the best in the world. Oh well, epee is the best.

I did foil fencing for a very short time, just to try it out. It was actually a lot of fun! I'd definitely do it again if I had extra money to spare.
To PecanPie02 - you should drop in on a Fencing Academy and see how you like it. They may even have introductory classes so you can test out the instructors and facilities. Fencing seems to be equal parts athleticism and intelligence/strategy, so it's actually a pretty balanced sport. You definitely don't need to be the most athletic person in the world (there were many men and women, far less fit than I am, who were on par with me). As far as training I did a LOT of cardio conditioning while I was there, and seemingly endless footwork drills. But it's all good stuff - develops speed and agility, and once you actually pick up a foil, epee or saber, you'll develop a good amount of coordination.
Like I said, you should try it out first. It'll probably be a very small fee for like a 1 week trial. It's different strokes for different folks, so you may like it and you may not. Best of luck!

^ haha, no, anybody can find their niche and be good at fencing

i did foil for about 7 yrs, then quit b.c i hurt my knee, and plus i never really dedicated myself to it so i didn't improve that much. i'm athletic, but i guess not enough for fencing

so yeah, i don't fence anymore, but it's still fun to watch and i check the usfencing site once in a while, just to see how my buddies are doing

^^
helloo!. uhh.. I was one of the people asking about if fencing was good and worth it well.. this is waht i think about it..
O!! and yes i did buy all the equipment and started at our schools fencing team..
okay.. if you dont mind getting a bit "abused" then this is right for you..
lol. i got a bruise on my arm, like what most of you said would happen..
its really tons of fun my heart gets all pumpy during matches.. really adrenaline rush man.. !!
im still really not so good.. cuz there are tons of ppl in the team.. and not enough fencing time..
you get really sweaty just by wearing the darn equip!!
however, the experience is awesome.. esp when you actually have real matches
and for the very weak person like me.. holding all the equip to buses and out was a pain in the but...lol
its fun but if your not the type who likes to get physical and your the nice person who likes things getting resolved with words,, this may not be right for you.. cuz if youre too afraid to "hit" a person you definately shouldnt be doing this..-__-""
other than that i recommend it if you want to give it a try..!!^__^
sorry for babbling.. hah this really didnt help much hehe sorry

I was hoping to try to get into fencing too. Influenced by a drama, haha. But it seems really difficult to get the hang of; to me at least. How long do you think it took for you to get used to all the footwork and techniques and etc? o_o I don't really care about the physical pain, but if it hurts my brain too much, that might not work out too well. ^o^

duuude. I looved fencing.
the first lesson was the footwork, and it was the boring-est part, but so crucial to the sport.
My trick is to always strike first, but that's at the amateur level, I wish I could continue my training,
but i don't know......
