"BRITNEY SPEARS has been subjected to a backlash after her tearful interview last week (15JUNE06) on US news show DATELINE. Spears, who is heavily pregnant, was criticised for her "inappropriate" wardrobe choice of a sheer, cleavage baring top and revealing mini-skirt.

The singer also reportedly insisted on doing her own hair and make-up and chewed gum throughout the interview. At one point, when she began to cry, her make-up started clumping and one of her fake eyelashes fell off. The source adds, "When (the NBC crew) got there, they thought they had the wrong day...during the interview, no one was there to reign things in." A source tells Pagesix.com, "Neither of her publicists, LESLIE SLOANE ZELNICK or NANCI RYDER, showed up." When asked why Spears was on her own for the interview, Sloane Zelnick told Pagesix.com, "Britney is a grown-up and makes her own decisions."

I kind of feel bad, but kind of don't. She did this to herself the moment she got together with that a**hole, and so I think she has herself to blame.
No one should have to go through that kind of humiliation though.

I feel bad for her. I know people say that being followed by the papperrazi is a part of being famous, but i think they take it way too far sometimes. Doing those crazy car chases (one resulting in the death of Princess Di and her boyfriend), saying really rude things just to get a picture of a celeb looking angry or shocked (Ben Affleck said that once he was leaving a restaurant with Gwyneth Paltrow *when they were still dating* and a pappo guy shouted, "Hey Ben! I saw your mom at the Oscars and she looked like a f***ing w***e!!" or something along those lines), and just the non-stop following.

With that said and done, it could just be because I'm mean or I watch too much "Best Week Ever" and "The Soup" (or both) but I thought the interview was pretty fun at times. Like when she was trying so hard to defend herself against the allegations that she's a bad mother. And then when she said that she cried that day she almost dropped her son it was because she was "hungry". I was like, "WTF? Lady, you cried cuz you wanted to eat? I thought it was because YOU ALMOST DROPPED YOUR BABY!!" And the gum chewing. I thought that she would be professional enough to refrain from it, but whatever. I didn't really care about her make-up and hair and clothes. It's the way she wants to be I guess. She does kind of set herself up for it sometimes. I mean, you shouldn't blame the victim, but in the mean world of Hollywood, if she really wants to get away from all the bad media, why don't she move to a more reclusive part of America? I know that there will be people who will still follow her, but I think it won't be as bad.

it's a life she chose..and it's a consequence she must stand for...

I watched the interview and it made me sad. She is going through so much. You can't blame Britney for everything.

Why would you want her to stay inside? Do you want her to remain in her house and avoid all social contact?

The paparazzi and the media are being too harsh on her. Britney is their target and they're trying to make her look as bad as possible, and many people are buying that she's gone downhill and is a bad mother.

You can't blame her for crying or being emotional. Yes, it's the price she has to pay, but this is too much.

She's still a person and I believe that fame and fortune still has not made her any different. She's still the sweet girl.

If she really wants her children to lead normal lives, she's going to have to step out of the public eye, which means give up her career.

That's the only way people will leave her alone.

And if she's not willing to do that, well then it's pointless feeling sorry for her. I mean after years of exploiting the media, all her fame is coming back to bite her in the butt. It's sad that she's being treated this way but not having privacy is the downside of being an A-list celeb.

watching her dateline interview really showed what sort of emotional state she's in, seriously. i adore britney's work and talent as a musician but as a human being, she seriously is lost. i couldn't help but to pity her.

it's not her fault that she married an idoit of a guy who does nothing but cause her to even lose more ground and freeload off her success.

but when you really think about it, she's had people ordering her what to do and what to become since she was 16. so you can understand how much she values her freedom to do what she wants as an adult. i guess Britney is the classic result of what being a huge mega-pop star does to a woman in the future.

yea..i watched this interview....no offence but the interviewer....almost seemed to make her cry by purpose..his questions were rather offensive..and he always blamed that the "media" or her "fans" accused her of such and such... i felt so sorry for her..but sometimes i feel as if she isnt answering each question truthfully...but im sure the crying part was real...shes not an actress..and always being surrounded by the papparazzi is stressful... i noticed that she chewed on her gum harder when very personal questions are thrown at her...

I remeber when I was in junior high and secretly watching her video (won't let my friends know that I watch Britney Spears video =)) and hating my body... I wanted a boob job and flat stomach like hers.... she looked really too gorgeous to me and she looks really awfull now. I can't believe that I ever wanted to look like her but I still watch her video now and then and think oh my god!!! Poor Britney....

I also agree that Britney should give up her career. Maybe she can make a comeback later on, when her life is more stable, but it'd be a good idea for her to focus more on her child[ren] than constantly be in the spotlight. Like Madonna, I think she raises her kids just fine [although, maybe she spoils them...a lot] but her career is still successful. I thought that Madonna was Britney's role model? Maybe she can learn some stuff about parenting from her.

According to the interview she loves K-FEd. As much as many people, including myself, don't like K-Fed, she can't just quit on love just like that.

ok, i dont want to pity her but i do feel bad for her. Someone on here said that Britney's lost because she had been told what to do since she was 16, and I agree. Now that she finally does get to do things her way, I think she does what she wanted to do when she was 16. It's a mix of being a woman and still a teenager, growing up. I'm sure she's had a lot of input about her career, but maybe her publicist worked her really hard to look and be a certain way when she was 16 and 17. She probably did and said things she really didn't want. And now, the way she is, is probably really her.
Again, with all that said. The clips are funny. You wonder why people like Danny Bonaduce have such messed up lives, and it's because of life in the spotlight of the media...which reminds me of that skit on "MadTV" way back then when Britney Spears first came out, and they were doing the "Making of" for "Lick My Baby Back Behind".
