i like soda green, i love how the singer sounds like a girl and guy at the same time, they are very fun to listen to
renjitehsmex
ME! I'M TOTALLY SICK OF BAD QUALITY MUSIC > Jolin, Rainie, SHE.

Fish Leong is a great singer. So is Wang Lee Hom.

any1 heard nicholas teo's new album prince?

Had a listen today. It's okay. Nothing great, sounds like something that'll just disappear into the background.

Cherry Boom are so much fun. Yeh, girl power!

Just gave Marshmallow Kisses a try today and they have a very "pretty" sound. It sounds very sweet and innocent.
Tonyc402
I listened to Nicholas Teo new cd , its ok. I like his previous album a lot better.

Has anyone heard 張靚穎's singles , I like her 你叫什麼名字 song.

Gary Cao is very talented . I like his voice in the voice I still believe and 數到五答應我
ongi3000
i haven't heard all of nicholas teo's album, but from wat i heard theres nothing really catchy, but not that its bad either. i'm hoping jay chou will release something new after all his movie work, i love to hear new stuff from him.
cutiepie1021
TANK~!!! and Khalil Fong Dai Tong (方大同)~~
Khalil's ai ai ai (Love love love) is very good~ and other songs in his new album are good too~
david tao is also good
prelude
I don't know if these were mentioned yet:

-K-One! Their songs are so addicting. I listened to "Yong Gan Qu Ai" over and over again. I think they're a little old, but they're nice just the same!

-Sweety... I heard they disbanded? :[ Yan Yan and Qiao Qiao are so cute! I love their "Hai Shi Ai Ni" song.

-Nan Quan Ma Ma. Lara's Chinese is a little distorted, but they're songs have such catchy beats!

-Luo Zhi Xiang? Alan Luo is a little overrated, but his songs are great.
Scy91
a lot of the good artists have already been mentioned, but if you didn't say Jacky Cheung then you're a dummy! i've listened to this guy's voice to every last detail, and damn. The way he can control his voice is amazing..seriously one of the greatest, and not only in Chinese music. there is just absolutely no Chinese artist that can sing a ballad like him, and not even your Se7ens and your Rains or your Taebins.
Enyo
Add in 南拳妈妈(Nan Quan Ma Ma)! My fav Chinese band. I personally don't think Lara's Chinese is distorted. She speaks well, even though she's brought up in America.

Some other good singers are 吴克群and 陈绮贞.
dearskye.
Most people have already said the ones I want to say: Jay Chou, LeeHom, F.I.R, Mayday etc. I just want to disagree with one Supergirl singer I've come to know. Jane Zheng(Cheung?). She sang the soundtrack of The Banquet (movie with Zhang ZiYi and Daniel Wu). That song was amazing. Her voice is amazing.

OMG! Someone mentioned Soda Green! (THEY ARE AWESOME) I saw them at a concert. Just amazing. Hahah.
Khahil Fong...very good.
Jackie Cheung - legend.
TANK - cute songs, touching lyrics. Love this guy.
Landy Wen - amazing voice. okay songs.
sixth.

i have to agree with you. most of the older artists are awesome and it's so hard to find people with talent like theirs.

khalil fong is great - a great singer, great composer, great person smile.gif

I like Jay Chow, Eason Chan, Nicky Lee, Leehom Wong, Cao Ge, Zhou Bi Chang(-Bibi Chow, although I don't like the chinese supergirls, she is really good at singing and she's cute!)

Jay Chow is ok enough to sing, and he is really talented.
Eason is always my favorite singer, I love his voice! He is singing a real life!!
Zhou Bi Chang- she is great, I fell in love with her voice when I first heard her live singing.
I could still remember how the song moved me to tears. But it's so weird, her cd is not that good as her live. The live is at least 20 times better than the cd's.
Nicky Lee- Congratulations to Nicky. He finally won!

look forward to listening to their new songs.

Khalil Fong
he is good as well!!! very talented composer!
Tonyc402
Eason Chan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously his vocals are so good. His live performances even sound just as good as his CD. I like all his songs
imaviet
ALAN LUO!!

I simply adore him =) hahah; his music is addicting ^^

That includes Jay Chou <3 , Lee Hom, etc. If you watch a bunch of Taiwanese dramas, I think they choose EXCELLENT music for their OST ^o^
Enyo
Oh ya, how can I forget Eason Chan and Alan Luo? I didn't hear from Alan for some time. Eason's improving his Chinese. Eason's singing is not bad, it's in fact good.

However, he didn't get much attention among my friends, they rather go for Fahrenheit who I think don't have any talents in singing, *no offence, it's only my opinion* because of their looks. Thus, Fahrenheit is categoried in the 偶像派(ou3 xiang4 pai4)。 That means they're popular because of their looks, not talent.

Again, no offence...just telling my opinion, sorry, Fahrenheit's fans. smile.gif
VindictusDame
man..... eason is the bomb.

i simply hate songs that sounds stupid and got no significant meaning. and i hate hei se hui mei mei.... yucks. they sucks a big time.
xtehdeb
lol i like jolin, rainie, and she sweatingbullets.gif
some good ones are jay chou, leehom, tank, genie zhou, janice wei, eason..

i back logged a couple of pages and saw that no one mentioned Mayday. I really think they are still on top of their game despite all these new young pop idols coming out.

They are a rock/pop (more rock though) band and they always put up an amazing show during their concerts. Their latest album was rather amazing, Born For Love is the title in English。 为爱而省 is the Chinese title.

lee wang hom is a great music maker, but his singing is still not there for me. it's like he tries too hard when he sings sad songs. he's annoying when he performs that's why i love listening to his cds. i think his cds are amazing and you could see his transition. jj lin is like a younger version of lee wang hom.
KaiLien
Yep, Jin Hai Xin has a beautiful voice and some really great songs. I also like Cecilia Han Xue. She's another mainland singer with a nice voice. Gotta say I have a thing for Nic Tse. His stuff is great! I can't believe he's not that popular. Lee Hom is overrated imo. He has some good songs but he's just not my type of singer as goes with most of the recommended singers these days. I still don't listen to chinese music much as there's not a lot of great artists overall...

Others: Anson Hu, Chris Yu, William So, Sha Bao Liang...

ETA: Yuki Hsu just came out with a new album for what seems like a decade...her voice is so sweet and soothing. I love her ballads!
Enyo
I do feel weird when I see Lee Hom's live concert, he's like over-shouting and stuff. I don't quite like his songs, I think he's overrated too. Maybe others like him and I'm the weirdo. sweatingbullets.gif

i second that... but i dont really like lee hom's music => the so called unique music where he used chinese opera music n stuffs..... its freaking weird and puts me off. other than those silly and weird music, i still like lee hom. jjlin is not bad. i mean, that guy CAN seriously sing... very talented too. but the best singer songwriter that i've ever seen is definitely jay chou. i mean, his songs are UNIQUE and THEY DONT TURN ME OFF. he really brings in a new music to the chinese music industry... totally cool. eventhough sometimes his lyrics can go kinda weird... but what the hell... the music sounds great and i dont even bother to understand the lyrics lol.

i don't think many people have mentioned SHIN/信乐团??? they have disbanded for a few months now sad.gif but they will always always be my favourite band, people who haven't heard their music and are into mando rock you should listen to a few of their songs, i'm still spazzing about ah shin going solo sleep.gif but his voice is so amazing and i loved all their live performances

mayday/五月天 has been mentioned alot already i think but i must say, their songs are toooo beautiful, ah xin is so talented smile.gif

OHOH does anyone watch Taiwan's singing competition one million star/超級星光大道??
Soy
LOL how can you NOT have Nan Quan Mama ..lol amazingly talented group of artists, that was brought up by Jay Chou.Gosh favorite group no doubt. leehom <3 amazing .. gotta agree with you on that one.Jane Zhang is an incredible vocalist - i cant believe she didnt win super girls -_-Khalil fong is EXTREMELY talented, such a great voice and his music on "Soul Boy" is great !Anson Hu , Chris Yu, Gary Cao Ge, Vivian Hsu, Genie Zhou, and so forth are talents to look out for also

lol leehom has said before, that he doesn't consider himself a good singer, when he first debuted he had to work extremely hard to sing the "right way", to this day he doesn't think hes a good singer, he says he has improved, but hes def. not the best.her composing/producing/writing skills are mad though, so you have to give him credit for that. smile.gif plus he can play a bunch of instruments and speak a bunch of languages, very determined guy

never had a thing for jay chou, though i tried. his singing is......well, let's just say that i dont quite connect with his music, and i cant tell his songs apart. it seems to me that the songs in his later albums are just equivalents of his earlier music. he seems to be stuck musically. some people would call that his 'style' i suppose.

nan quan mama just sound like a band version of jay. (personal opinion).

as for JJ Lin, when he sings high notes, his voice...hardens? or he goes into a falsetto, which doesnt sound fabulous on him.

but I love Shin and Mayday. they're so...natural. especially mayday, they're one of those rare artists that sing songs about themes other than love. and both bands are so idealistic, i often marvel at how they managed to become successful in such a comercialised market such as in Taiwan.

As for David and Leehom, luv them but not only becoz of their music, but because they are working towards something, they hav a very clear ideal - to make music that is distinctly chinese, and unique. i dont quite understand how uniqueness can 'put someone off', u may not connect with it, but u can hardly call the effort to progress 'off-putting'

some of the old Stef Sun and FIR stuff are great, but they're recent albums hav been disappointing, and uninspiring. Jasmine Leong has gone all 'cute' and overly mushy with her ballads. None of the new ppl hav been any good. I've been generally disappointed with mandarin music in the past year *sigh*. and this year's golden melody award sucked too. little substance and little quality nominees.

agree leehom's intent in his music is so that when they listen to his music they can really identify with the chinese history and culture.
however i disagree with the nan quan mama comment because .. lol the lead singer of nan quan mama is lara veronin, and her voice is hecka unique and unlike jay, she doesn't mumble when she sings sleep.gif
kappyrox
I agree with the Nan Quan mama comment about how Lara is a great singer. She's young, has a unique voice and if she ever launches into a solo project, I think she'll be pretty successful.

Yeah, the older singers have been a little disappointing but I also think in general its because the other Asian music scenes are really taking over by storm. I think the Taiwan market has been saturated with all these new people who are just capturing on the "idol" wave more than concentrating on music.

[[Rain]]
Did anybody recommend Penny Tai? She's amazinginly great. Almost every track in her album is compose, arrange, and written by her. Her voice is very soothing too. I would really recommend her album 愛瘋了. And the song Amen, that song is just powerful.

For males, I would recommend Gary. He has the vocals, and writing talent. ;]
material_girl
^ that's right, her latest album is really good as well. i recommend Ye Ge Ren De Xin Li (One Person's Luggage) and Dan Sheng Qian Tao

I would second that. Although I do like Nan Quan Mama a lot. Not a fan of Jay, but a big fan of NQMM for some odd reason.
kkkkk
^ on the contrary, i think jay excels as a songwriter. but clearly lacks in the vocals department. when i hear his straining vibratto i want to switch off the tv/radio/whatever. and the newer materials are such turn-off because they are so repetitive.
hked
chinese..umm

i really like hins cheung.. he has some really nice song
Enyo
Jay Chou is a great song writer and music composer, but his singing is so-so only.

NQMM's songs are awesome, I guess the reason their not popular is because they didn't do enough publicity? Frankly, NQMM is not at all popular amongst my friends. sweatingbullets.gif

Oh ya, Hins is good too. I remember when I listen to songs in his very first album every night, from the radio. I listen to his songs without knowing how he looks like, then when I saw him in the papers, I was slightly disappointed, I forget why...it's something about his looks. I imagined him to look something else. I still like him anyhow. smile.gif

F.I.R. is starting to deviate away from the rock music they used to be known for, imo. Their new songs are still pretty nice and catchy though. (:

And of course - JAY CHOU. Epitome of good Chinese music.
fuugi
^ theres that new band ECHO that sounds a bit like FIR tho
benjaminlibl
David Tao rocks. My idol for sure. His music is awesome. I'm not being biased, it's the truth.
freyr
Faye Wong is such a great singer and she is my favorite Chinese singer. Her voice is so beautiful. I'm so glad she left the music scene with the release of such a great album.

I love Janice Vidal.. She has such a beautiful voice ^^"
And Tank! I love his songs. He has talent =D
I'm also a v. loyal S.H.E fan haha ^^ They harmonize so well

i stop listen to chinese music 4 or 5 years ago because i personally feel that there is no quality in it especially when taiwan music industry keep come out with a lot of boyband which has faces but no talent in music at all.
I prefer korean music and korean singer tend to be better live performer.
Korean music industry tend to trained singer from small and trained them up and form them properly.
But in taiwan, what i know is a lot of singer get to come out with album because they are winner of certain singing competition and the training they received is limited.
Sorry, no intention to offend any people.

No offense to you, but you haven't done the LEAST bit of research in terms of Chinese music. There are SO many singer-songwriters in Taiwan right now (Leehom, David Tao, Jay Chou, Stanley Huang, Tanya Tsai, Mayday, F.I.R., Zhang Zhen Yue) as well as singers with very good vocals (Amei Zhang Hui Mei, Stefanie Sun Yan Zi, Angela Zhang Shao Han). There are also more indie bands like Tizzy Bac and Sodagreen who have great music.

Yes there really are some truly annoying and untalented groups (F4, Fahrenheit, Hei Se Hui Mei Mei, Lollipop), but there ARE still talented people.

and actually I'm kind of opposite from you. Like, I don't listen to Kpop BECAUSE they're all young people trained the same way from a young age and they all come out with these formulaic songs and perform formulaic choreography and have the same formulaic style/appearance.
kaldas
most people already mentioned the singers i like... but erm, here's my list:

周杰倫
林俊傑
南拳媽媽
信樂團
林宥嘉
張震嶽
曹格
楊宗緯
李聖傑
王力宏
五月天
羅志祥

I hate Zhang Shao Han. The tunes are nice but she has a lousy voice and no talent.

I'm from Singapore. And I can say that Sun Yan Zi sucks. At best her voice is "unique". But she can't sing. And have you heard her new album?
melonpan
most of the singers i like are already mentioned i think..
but what about gary cao ge? he's somewhat new but i think he's soooo talented~~
he sings a lot of his song using girl's pitch notes

^ and as for angela, it's different for everyone but i think she has great voice... it's clear and she can hit high notes easily. her songs are not exactly easy to sing too...

WOW talk about bias. I don't quite understand your music preferences/standards but Angela Chang has one of the most powerful voices out of the younger generation of female singers in Taiwan. The average joe out there cannot sing like Angela can, so we can't say she has no talent.

they may not be the best singers in the world, but tney as hell CAN sing
I mean, if you consider them untalented, wonder what you think of fahrenheit, F4, twins and edison crazy.gif
