mayday + f.i.r ftw : )
mayday - ive gone to their concert, theyre amazing live ! theyve been around for a long time, their older songs area really worth a try. : )
f.i.r - also heard them live~ their 1st album is my favourite : ) & yeah they are more of crock so if you like rock/alternative then you should give them a try : O

for more r&b hiphop (more upbeat i guess), theres MC Hotdog and Da Mouth (Da Zue ba)!

its true though, cpop isnt as big as jpop and kpop.. its just really hard to find good chinese artists out there.. a lot of them have some good onehit wonders but thats about it : S !

JAY ZHOU & KHALIL FONG. hands down.
Jay is simply incredible... there's a reason why he's king of asian pop
and of course, Khalil Fong... he's up there too. his voice is beautiful and his lyrics too:)

G.E.M. 鄧紫棋(canto) sings pretty good

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahxMIeSn-rs

Agreed! I was shocked when I found out that a Canto person can actually sing WELL!
Look up 蔡淳佳/Joi Chua. She's pretty good from I heard so far. Lol. Most chinese music I listen to are usually traditional or instrumental so sorry I'm not much of a help.
usan
i recommend joanna wang, she sings quite well. (songs: bada bada, lost taipei)
faye wong - qi zi (chess), love letter to myself
a-mei - ji de (remember)
na ying - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP4YXDUlgUg
doremii*
^ yup. I'd recommend Joanna Wong as well. Her voice is so relaxing and she mostly sings in English so that's a bigger plus! (since my Chinese is horrible.. lol)

i say jj lin songs are annoying...his songs are like a combination of upbeat and then slow paced song
pretty much all his songs sound the same....no offense or anything
people should listen to justin lo and hins cheung songs....<3
Jade have pretty good songs too

yeah I don't really like JJ Lin either.

I can't really seem to get into the super popular artists like JJ Lin, Jay Chou, Wang Lee Hom etc =T

there's plenty of quality Chinese music, it's just the popular stuff are usually crap. Just like with Kpop, where only boybands/girlgroups are popular among international fans..
c'erine
you just reminded me of my old favorite song
信樂團 - 千年之恋 the featured girl's voice is so haunting
Cfanboys
There are : Fusion rock band, Yu Siyuan&biz, Wang Xiaokun, Kimi Qiao Renliang and more.
Just check our profile.

Oh yay i like this thread >< but its kinda old >< oh well
major cpopper in the house yo ~

[longresponse]
ive never been a jolin or rainie fan because they're music is the type that doesnt require skill . . . im not saying they suck absolutely or anything

umm my faves include:
a Chord: I'm not sure how popular he is as a singer but most people know him. He's in the KO series and had a decent part in The X-Family. He was also in ISWAK as that kid who could see spirits. My favorite song of his is Enough Love, 够爱. it's in The X-Family OST and in the current KO 3an Guo OST (but sung by someone else)

Pets Ceng: She is that someone else mentioned ^. Although I have nothing of hers but K.O. 3an Guo OST songs, i love her voice. Errr equate her kinda to Faye from F.I.R. :]

F.I.R.: One of my favorite groups EVER! They mostly do pop rock. They became famous through their song Lydia - part of The Outsiders OST. I really recommend it . . . it was that song that started making me pay attention to OST's ><

Fish Leong: she has a nice sweet voice and her songs are goooood. although once i got a song of hers mixed up with a slow song of jolin's .___. oops >< i really liked her OST songs for the drama My Queen / My Defeated Queen :]

BOBO: I'm kinda biased here .___. i think they're like the first mainland boy group created XD They're 2 pretty faces and i love them cuz they're sponsored by Hunan channel - my fave. But yeah, they do have nice songs :]

Anson Hu: He's great :] although i don't like his first album that much

Dong Cheng Wei: they're an underground group that Jiro of Fahrenheit was originally part of. They've played a large part in The X Family.
Champion: They're like Dong Cheng Wei - beastly guitarists i think .___.

Nicholas Teo: my teo baby <3 his songs are the best! he always sings slow, sweet, love songs and his voice is amazing! you can hear the emotion behind it :] his recent 3rd album is a bit different from before but thats ok. equate him to Fish Leong i guess

Tank: then theres him. i really admire this kid. after losing like 3 relatives in 2 years to heart attacks (it runs in the family, heart disease) and suffering 2 himself, he recently came back with his 3rd album and stunned everyone <3 hes kinda pop rock ish but slower than F.I.R.

Zhang Li Yin: i think everyone knows her . . . 2nd chinese SM trainee after Hangeng of SJ. one of the most powerful voices ive ever heard!

SJM: XD no comment i just love them + their music

and im iffy on Jay Chou and JJ Lin

New artists:

-LaLa Hsu: She was in the One Million Star competition and super talented. writes her own songs and her voice is probably one of my fav. of all time.
-Yida Huang: she's Fan Wei Qi's new "little disciple", very sweet voice..her music isn't her own but ppl like FanFan help write it and it's more of the generic Chinese songs. Nevertheless, it's worth trying out.
WENism
HA! I love every artist on your list right there! Also, I would reccommend:
JIN SHA
She's had a duet with JJ, and I think her voice is amazing and, though soft-spoken, totally serene and wonderful to listen to!
10cents
Someone who I would recommend would be Lu GuangZhong or Vitas Lu.
I really like his style, its very melodic.
Some songs would be: Je t'aime and 100 ways of life.
He was also won the Best New Comer and Best Composer at the Golden Melody Awards this year!

Also, Khalil Fong and Joanna Wang! C:
0rchid
i'm currently listening to a lot of...

Khalil Fong - love his music.. smooth R&B/soul... so soothing, lol

Jasmine Leong - loOooove her voice!!

and lastly...

Da Mouth - this group is hands down my favorite chinese group. they're a mix of hip hop/pop i can't stop listening to 愛的宣言 (Declaration of Love)

[edit] oh and how can I forget the great Andy Lau and Jacky Cheung? xD
saranghae<3
Jane Zhang! This girl is just awesome<3 I love her voice.
Currently, Hua Xin (Painted Heart) is on repeat~ I love it.
chungmah.
Any decent HKpop artists?
I really doubt it since it's all C-pop/mando pop these days

I recommend you Janice Man... wink.gif

Realllyyy old thread, but I agree with this list (except that I really like S.H.E)
Especially Liang Jing Ru (别人的天长地久<3), F.I.R, Xin Yue Tuan.
I have to add Jane Zhang too. Her voice is absolutely stunning.
Anson Hu also. He has a really distinctive and soothing voice (诀别诗). So does JJ Lin. His older albums were better, but I adore his voice.

There are really really good cpop songs, you just have to find them.

I recommend you Janice Man... ;)

uhh. janice man sings? i thought she was only a model/actress, and i've always known her to come in a package with angelababy \:
i think you mean janice WEI, haha. her new album <Morning> is great, and it's her first all-english album for you non-canto speakers. ^^
jason chan and hins cheung, definitely recommend them<3 their voices are really smooth and calming~
my younger bro has been ranting about chita lately, she's a rookie i think.... but she composes and co-wrote her 1st album, so she has had musical experience before.
sherman chung, she's fantastic<3 and she can add her own flavor into things.
stephy tang and kary ng, i really like them too.
pakho released a new album today, didn't hear it yet but my bro says it's good so ^^;;
alex fong and endy chow, and of course G.E.M.<3
raymond lam is an actor-turned-singer, and he seriously has natural talent. check this out.
MC jin is famous out there. my bro (again) told me he won some huge rapping contest against a black guy (no offense ><;;) and he learned chinese from his mom's scoldings....... smartmouth +__+;; he's hip-hop / rap genre.

speaking from a cantonese and HK-born's perspective, i don't know why you guys seem to avoid HK music so much. not ALL canto artists are talentless....... i actually feel a bit insulted >_>
yeonhee.
^Ooh, I didn't know PakHo's has a new album. I'll go check it out.
ranilleh
only 4 new songs, though, in the new pakho cd.
Adding onto the list from 2 posts ago:
- Justin Lo's got songs with a good tune, and actively composes songs/writes lyrics for himself and other singers
- Eason Chan's always got good lyrically-meaningful songs...and he sings them with a lot of emotion
- Kay Tse has been pretty popular lately, a lot of emotion in her voice as well
