well it's been happening on and off for 4 years. basically it's when your mind awakes before your body does.. so you are stuck and paralyzed. your body cant move.. it kind of feels like suffocation and it takes a while to loosen up and "awake" or become free to move. these days ive been getting it almost everyday and its creeping me out, but at the same time im use to is. korean people usually call this gahwee (scissorlock).. well different cultures have different names for it.. so iono. usually one would panic when getting this but then its become so routine that i just wait until it's over. i can control my thoughts too... like although im dreaming/or not dreaming... my thoughts are alert. a few days ago.. to make sure that this was ACTUALLY real.. and not make believe dream, i told myself to think of an object next time i get that sleep paralysis thing. to my suprise i was able to think of it when i got paralyzed so IT's REAL! ok i duno if that made sense, but im kind of freakin out here bc i want to kno the cure. nobody knows how to treat it... i mean besides sleeping early and not stressing out. i duno whether this is a psycological illness <- ok maybe not that extreme, but i need to seek help. i just dont know who though.. bc everyone else thinks im crazy. and trust me, im just a normal grl... i dont experience stress that much.. my life is content. i just dont kno whats happening to me everytime im sleeping and why this happens to me.
does anyone have the same experience or can give me any answers as to why this is happening? ive done my research... but nothing is helping me

I've had it before except there was dark shadowlike creature that walks over to me and sits on my chest.
Scary stuff. I guess the next time you experience it, just gradually try to move a body part until you're fully awake and aware.

That happened to me like a few days ago, and omfg it was hella scary. I was staring outside my window seeing shadows and I wanted to get up but I couldn't. And like about 5 minutes later I was able to get up. It was a freaky moment.

I'm not sure, but something similiar like that happened to me. My family and I was visiting our cousins to see our sick Grandma. Unfortunately she died, and we had to head back home for the week. I was sleeping in the car and it seemed like I was awake but I couldn't move. I couldn't open my eyes. I tried to scream but nothing happened. It FREAKED me out!! It seemed like 5 minutes LONG, and it stopped. I opened my eyes and I let out a big *Gasp*. I wondered what it was, and I decided to close my eyes again. This time it only lasted for about 5 seconds.
Well that was a once experience. Definitely don't want it to happen again.

I don't know about some of yours where you say you see shadows.. Your eyes are open? Mines when this happens they are close.
Well, I don't have any advice to help you from not having it but I have heard some stuff about it from this one lady who seems to know more about it.. ^^ I can't say her name cuz you guys will think I'm crazy.

It could be that you've a weak body. You should try eating regularly and exercise. That really does help. Oh yeah, sleeping on your side is also a way to avoid it, but even then, sleep paralysis can still occur. But it's actually unhealthy for your body to sleep on the sides.

ya happens too me all the time, funny thing is i'm still awake when it happens to me, i'm fully aware of my surounding but i cant move. also, i could feel it happening before it happens, my head gets heavy, my eardrums start making funnynoises, and then i start hearing people scream, laugh and whisper, itsl ike fastforwarding 6 movies all at once. and then i cant move. sometimes i can get outta of it right away. but i cant stop it from happening. ><, used to it tho, happens ALL the time, ever since i can remember, almost every 2days. but lately it stopped for 3 weeks, i dont know why.

Try sleeping in a different room, just for a night to see if it happens to you in a different place. My cousin and my aunt, everytime they sleep in the master bedroom, they get the gawee thing. That and they also get nightmares. So as long as they stay away from that room, they're fine. Its wierd because my uncle or my male cousin, when they sleep there, they're fine. ITs also fine for the oldest female cousin.
Hopefully you'll be able to sleep soundly soon enough, i hope everyone's suggestions help you out.

Its similar to mine. Sometimes I sleep but my ears are still fully awake, I can hear everybody talking and stuffs.
Also one time, while watching a movie at my room, I fell asleep but its like my ears and my eyes are awake[fyi: my eyes are closed at that time],because I can see & hear the movie that i was watching while asleep.
Its weird, but cool at the same time lols

yeh recently i've been sleeping on my side and it works..
I've experienced sleep paralysis for 2 weeks during and after my school exams. it was so scary i sometimes too scared to go to sleep. there's this arm that appears and suffocates me putting their hand on my chest and everytime I attempt to get up, the arm appears again >< i have to try at least 5 times until I get actually "get up" sometimes i need to literally stand up to get up.
apparently stress is the cause for this and I think it was for me because I was really stressed about my exams for those few weeks.

practice trying to lift your arms above your head like ur stretching when u stand except that ur laying down
try doing it before u sleep and try to remember it next time it happens because usually if u get pains or REM par. in your sleep its best to move your muscles. this prolly works a lot better with nighttime pain but REM par. can be painful sometimes so give it a try.
oh and its hard to take care of if you're exhausted because its almost like lag. yourre mentally ready to wake up but your body is still in dream state trying to pin you down so you dont hurt yourself in your sleep.

I heard about this when I was watching Montel and Sylvia Brown was on. She said it's like when your sould hasn't completely re-entered your body or something. To help it she said pray for a quick entry and exit or something like that. Hope that helps.

It happened to me before. Probably the scariest thing I've even been through. I remember seeing a dark shadowy figure standing next to me. When I was FINALLY able to turn my head away, it stopped. But it was tired so my head somehow drifted back to its original position and it happened AGAIN. Gahh so scary. I remember glancing at the clock and the lighting of my room, and when it finally stopped, and I was finally able to get up, everything was exactly the way I saw it. The hands on the clock were in the same/similar positions.

pretty creepy. I was scared of going back into my room for the rest of the day.
If you believe in spirits or ghosts, people say this usually occurs when theres something in your room. I don't mean to creep you out or anything, but its what I, personally, believe in. Try sleeping in a different room and see if you're still experiencing it.

it was a quite long time ago but i remember I was dreaming supposedly and a dark shadow grabbed me. i couldn't awake until my cousin actually woke me up saying 'Kiki, Kiki, are you okay?' I felt so glad because she's my roommate & she just came home. She was holding me saying "it's okay.. it's okay" while I cried like crazy @__@
she told me i actually screamed at night but i didn't notice myself. even the following morning.. my brother said he heard a scream at night.

I was watching The Montel Show where Sylvia Brown was the guest. If you guys don't know who Sylvia Brown is, she's physic and spiritual teller.
Someone from the audience asked her a question about some incident likes yours. She says is because of your spirit. Something about your spirit not completing in your body when you wake up thats why your still paralyzed.
I don't really know but I believe she's not fake.

There was a pinned topic on this earlier.. Something to do with REM sleep. Well, in REM sleep your brain is very active and there is rapid eye movement. (This is the stage of sleep all those weird crazy dreams occur). Your body is paralyzed during it. So I think the topic said something like you wake up but you are still in REM sleep.

I FEEL YA! i even got it once during a facial. and i was lying there and i fell asleep. and when i woke up i was like "OMG. NOT HERE TOO!!!" i get it like several times a night. at first i was so scared but i'm so used to it because it's like an everyday thing for me. i just sleep on my side because then i don't get it for some reason. lol. i dunno i guess you could try and see if that works for you too. but usually i end up on my back again so its pretty pointless. hm.
mine's kind of like mudblood's. my ears start ringing and i hear things.. like people talking, laughing, snickers, and once i heard a baby cry.
it's weird. cuz once my mom was in my room while it was happening and so i kept calling her, but she wouldn't answer. so when i finally snapped out of it i asked her why she didn't respond and she was like "what? you never said anything." so i guess even if YOU can hear yourself talk, it's not audible to other people.

i used to get sleep paralysis often..
it's brought on my stress/lack of sleep etc..
i doubt it's ghosts or demons.
or.. it's actually a dream.
i either got them while i was sleeping or right before i fell asleep.. and even though i wanted to wake up, i would feel SO exhausted.

i get it every couple of months....i hate it. my boyfriend told me that koreans say it's a ghost sitting on you, which really freaked me out. And then (true story apparently) a girl i know has a friend in korea who was sleeped paralyzed and when she opened her eyes there was a demon lying beside her with it's face like RIGHT up in her face. she wasn't/isn't christian but heard that saying the lord's prayer makes them go away, but since she wasn't christian it didn't work and the ghost started mocking her and saying it back to her. and then she passed out and when she woke up it was gone.
haha sorry long post and scary if you believe it, but i just pray and it works

Whoa, everyday? you must be exhausted! I use to get it Sat. mornings because I usually sleep a lot on Saturdays to compensate for the sleep deprived weekday nights. So I sleep so much that I wake up in the whole "deep zone sleep" or whatever it is. So at first, I was soo freaked out. Now whenever I get it, I just close my eyes and go back to sleep and in like 5 minutes, I wake up and I'm fine.. weird, huh? Most of the times, I push through it. So I start turning sideways, and the next thing I know, I'm on my stomach... then I fall asleep again and the whole routine happens again.
oh man.. reading all these "demon sitting on you" is scaring me. But my friend had that happen to him.. and he just.. prayed and it went away. PRAY PEOPLE!

its call "gah wee" or Scissor lock. the myth says that when you are in scissor lock its like a ghost of gweshin that is keeping you from getting up. its just kinda teasing you. and when you open your eyes your supposed to see the ghost or ghosts. like its near your or something. some people say to keep a knife under your bed because i guess it will scare it away. and some people say to sleep on your side because then they can be pushing you down wards since your at a angle. and some people say to pray because oviously if they're still on earth theyre just roaming around because they cant go to heave or hell. so if you pray to God then he will help get rid of them for you. i would try praying first tho. my friend always gets scissor lock and said not to open your eyes because if you do then theyre going to be something in front of you or near you. so she never opens her eyes . she just lies theyre with her eyes closed. most of my friends pray and once they start to pray for a while the gweshin or the thing thats pulling you down is going to prevent you from praying by setting distractions. but once you get praying and concentrate it goes away after couple min.
but thats all myth. it probably has to do with stress. i would slow it down alittle
*ive never gotten scissor lock. so im not 100% sure*

when i was younger my aunt, she used to get it all the time but then she never saw that darn thing. she has 3 kids at the time and the youngest one was 3 or so. one day she was taking a nap. she woke up and saw a little kid coming towards her, trying to get on top of her, she thought it was bubu *the youngest one* untill she saw it up close she got scared and pushed it away. the "ghost" then snaped her fingers and said." aww shocks" and went away.
i didn't belived it at first untill my older sister slept over and saw the same thing. And she didn't know anything about the "aww shocks" thing.
SCARED..T_T
aww and last time my friend boa, she was sleeping and she had the samething, but whats scary is that she didn't see the person she only saw the legs/foot beside her head.
