Definitely recommend watching this drama!
I cried so much watching it...good thing I had a new box of tissues in my room! Sure, there are other sad, touching movies/series that have moved me to tears but not quite like this one. The fact that it was based on a true story, a real girl's dairy really hit home.
I think that they did a fantastic job with the casting and the choice of music to go along with it was very appropriate as well.

I loved this drama so much!! It is my favorite of all time. And I totally agree with people who love this drama without the love triangles. I am a guy, but I cried buckets during the last few episodes. I usually only get watery eyes but not tears, but this drama changed that.
The saddest part for me besides her death and Ako defending her, was when in EP 10 she was in the hospital to use the phone. OMG, I almost died from crying lol. When I finished the drama, my eyes were sore.
Btw, did anyone else notice that you can't find Asou-kun in the last scene? I thought that was the only bad part in a fantastic drama. ^^

yeah I noticed that too! I was sorta sad about that, BUT it's probably cuz the real life Aya didn't truly have a lover, so they wanted to end it as close to possible as what happened in real life (and in result not showing asou-kun in the ending part).

but happy at the same time..
I have a question. Asou-kun is just a side character in the drama right? He wasn't based in real life.. or... j/w.

Yep, Asou-kun is a made up character that didn't exist in Aya's life. The real mother of Aya wanted Aya in the drama to experience love since she didn't experience it in real life.

This IS a great drama^^ I enjoy every bits and pieces of it. I think I cried a litre of tears watching this drama. Aya is such a strong girl and all her sayings are very meaningful. It's really sad, but to think of it for the real Aya, it's even more heartbreaking because there isn't a guy like Haruto to support her in real life. This is my first J-drama and I'm glad that I've watched something really worthworthing.

I finally finished watchng this drama. goshhh i cried a tank of tears. the drama is so darn good. it is not the usually tear jerker drama about ill fated lover, the drama is more than that. i am not into sad drama, but my friends urge me to watch this one. i regretted that i didn't watch it earlier. The things that i love abt this drama:
the family:
the ottasan and okaasan are really the strongest point in aya life. i love how aya mom stay with her through and through. i love ako who stand by her sister. the whole family are strong. i myself wouldn't know how to react if in their shoes. i love the dad who keep giving his quirky jokes to ease the pain. the whole family amaze me.
the lovers:
yeap, all dramas need lovers right? but aya and asou-kun are not typical lovers. yes fullhouse, mnikss and goong actors have great chemistry, but what aya and asou had give me vibes from different level. they didn't held hands, hugs is non existen and they didn't even kissed, but i can feel how deep is their love is. this is what i call great acting from both parties. i love how asou defended aya infront of his classmate and chase after her. at that point i 100% believe that this guy will do anything for her. i love the bridge scene where they both cried. i find it so romantic. the last scene where asou-kun read the diary was so touching, and he cried so much. he had so much pain in him while watching aya dying. these two get my vote for best couple. their onscreen love beat all the drama i have watched.
the doctor:
i am not sure how the doctor treated aya in real life. but the actor who potrayed aya's doctor was excellent. it seems aya and him had bonded more just doctor and patient. they give each other courage and hopes. although in the end aya lost it, but the strength the doctor had given her help alot.
okay, i will stop ranting about this now.

i hope the real life aya's family will continue to give courage and hope to patient with similar decease with aya. i give this drama two thumbs up.

^ Lol man, I cried so much after watching this, my eyes were really swollen today when I woke up hahaha

This drama was amazeringly AMAZING

I honestly have to say, Sawajiri Erika's portrayal of Aya hit me in a way I never thought it could. My heart ached so much after seeing the end of 1 litre no namida T__T SPOILERS
What happens to Asou-kun after Aya dies? Did he die with her? Because of the whole basketball scene, I got confused >_< /SPOILERS
Was it just me, or whenever an episode ended with excerpts from Aya's diary, tears welled up? EVERY SINGLE TIME. It was so heart-breakingly sad T___T

this was such a touching and sad drama!!
i finished it in one day

aya is so pretty, and brave. i cried alot when her classmates were talking behind her back and she was standing at the door and also the part where her younger sister was yelling at her brother for being so mean to aya because his friends were teasing him.
hmm,
JENNI.K - i was also thinking the same question, what happened to asou-kun? i don't think there is a ending to what happened to him because he doesn't exist in reality.
her family is so warm and lovely; i find the younger sister so pretty!

okay, i just finished the drama.

i literally used up half the tissue box by the time i was done with the final episode.
aya's strength amazes me - her ability to keep smiling until the very end, and her constant wish to be of help to others despite her own conditions...sawajiri erika is such a talented actress to be able to portray her character so well. she had the ability to make me cry as well whenever she cried.
i loved all of the characters in 1 litre of tears, from aya's wondefully supportive friend mari (
i wish she showed up in the last episode!), to her hardworking (and incredibly hot

) doctor, to her love asou-kun (swoon) who expressed his love not through kisses and hugs, but through his concern, and her loving family, the main source of aya's strength and whose evident love pushed aya on.
the title of this series fits so well...i too, cried 1 litre of tears throughout this drama. now, even by just hearing konayuki and just human, i can still tear up.

I was very attracted to the show when I first read the synopsis for the show.. It sounded very depressing and I really pity Aya as the disease she has contacted is the first time I have heard of and I'm curious how Erika is gonna protray this character. I waited until recently I decided to download the show and it really didn't disappoint me.. It's super heart wrenching esp when Aya slowly loses her ability to become a normal person.. It's very saddening to see her not being able to do the things she likes and the normal stuff that a healthy human can do. I have to say I really admire her optimism and her strong-will for hanging on for so long for herself and her family. I really have to give credit to her family for not giving up on her and persisting in taking care of her. I have to admit that I got all teary as the show progressed. It's just very disheartening to see her transition from a normal and healthy person to a disabled person and slowly having her life to end at a prime age.. I don't think I can be like her if I was in her situation.. This show has been my latest japanese show I've watched in like 5-6 years as Korean dramas have taken over.. Nevertheless, this is a extremely good drama as I really like the message the show is sending across.. And I give it a grade "A".. And I love the songs to the show.. They just bring out the atmosphere for the scene.. 2 Thumbs Up!!!

OMG DO I LOVE THIS DRAMA!!! I saw this like last year but I still love it that I can watch the whole thing again without getting tired of it or even skipping scenes... And that's so sad that the mother of the real Aya wanted a love interest in the movie because she never experienced it in real life... OH!! i cried right when I saw that... But god, I love this drama... And yes Ryu is hot... He's cute!! Love his smile!! But anyways, this is really the most amazing dramas you will ever watch... So amazing... I rate it 20 stars out of 10... seriously.

That's so sweet of him. Even at times when he doesn't care he actually cares. I like the part when he ran to tell Aya that Kawamoto Yuji wasn't coming to meet her at the zoo..

that was really cute. Then the next day he was like if she cried in front of him again she'll get the penalty. Also, the part when he went to see Aya at the disabled school... when he confess his feelings.. "I like you... maybe... probably..." AWww.. so cute. HehE... "What this feeling is 100% not a lie." I like that when he says 100% not a lie because it's funny how he always lies.. so cute

I just finished watching it and honestly.. wo : ah.
It took my breath away, made my cry like there were no tomorrow. It's perfectly made, not too overdone, not too comedi-ish it has what it needs.
Usually, I don't really like dramas with sick people, diseases, etc. But this one is really great, the characters are deep even though there're only 11 episodes, it really shows their improvements and who they really are.
I was deeply touched by Ako who went from the greedy sister to a careful and loving one that made me cry so much. Especially in the part where Hiroki was ashamed of his sister's disease, but after all he grown as a man(?) and accepted it.
Aya's mother is, after Aya, the best character in this story, you can feel her strenght, and she never gives up, even though she knows that she cannot do anything.
I totally love this drama, it gives hope, makes you think about your own life, the small but o-so important treasures God gives you that seem like nothing to you. Walking, talking, writing you never really realize how important they are, while watching this drama, I realized it. A bit at least.
And the relationship between Asou and Aya truthfully touched me. They didn't have to touch each other to express their feelings, nor they had to say it, you could feel it, sense it.
It's really the way a drama about disease should be made. Optimistic, true and deep. It's pure, there's no stupid love triangles, annoying music that is too drama-ish, sobs every second for anything with a lot of noise. Like.. err. stairway to heaven?
But still, I love 1 Litre of Tears because it gives so much and it's so touching. But it carries a message of hope which most of movies/dramas about disease do not carry.
So.. HURRAY to 1L of tears!
PS : Hiroki is so cuuuuuuute >w<
