I hoping this question hasn't been asked before, so who in the states would be successful if they knew fluent Korean or Japanese. The artists can be from any genre of music expect country. Rock, Pop, Rap, whatever you want. Name as many artist as you want. You can give a reason or just put down names.

Would they be able to outdo your ppl like Rain, Se7en, Kangta, Hyori Lee, BoA etc?

I can only think of Beyonce.
ichigo_no_powder
lol I can't name anyone but to answer the second part your post, I think they will because even artists who can only speak english and don't have concerts overseas in asia are known simply because they are famous in America, think of how much more they will be if they could also speak the language and release albums.
Tamago86
yea..american and british artists dont need to know an asian language to be famous in east asia as has been shown...

unfortunately it's not a two way street, asian artists who want to be popular in mainstream america need to sing in english
Chakra'ca
Well, I don't think it matters if they know any Asian language or not
If you make it in the American Music industry you're pretty much going to be famous in places all over the world.
Asian Artists and Mainstream American artists are aready being compared. So I think we pretty much know who would be successful
putasmileon
Beyonce is already 1023479837498x more successful than any Asian artist.
darkjizzle806
I know that Asia are familiar with American artist, but for discussion, would a Nelly or Jay-Z beat Asia best hip hop individuals if they kept there style but spoke Korean or Japanese?
sub.lime
american artists are wayy more famous than most asian artists

Just because a lot of asians have english as a 2nd language in their country, doesn't mean anything.
knockblock
Of course american artists are more famous. English is international.
JF21©
mmm...i'd have to say nobody because like knockblock and Tetra pointed out lots of Asians have English as a second language and English is international...so yeah, i dont think they'd have to learn another language in order to out-do Rain, or Boa or anybody else.. i was watching a Tupac concert a long time ago where he was in Japan and i gotta say atleast 75% of the audience didnt speak a lick of English, but they knew each and every word to his songs....not uncommon.

on the other hand there are lots of fans who dont speak Korean/Chinese/Japanese and they know every word to their favorite artis's songs(like me), but i think in order for the Asian artist to make more of an impact they'd have to learn English..unlike American stars who want to learn another language..ex: Ciara~Japanese(want) Se7en~English(need)

and shouldnt this be in the ''other music''thread? wink.gif

I remember Good Charlotte sang a song in Japanese..? They performed at a concert in Japan with other Japanese bands like AKG and um, some other ones I forgot. (lol I remembered someone said 'a little piece me died' when they heard GC would be playing in the same concert)

o_O Dunno how well that went.

I don't think he means knowing English and recording English songs in their country. It's like... knowing English and recording in America. Meh - Utada did it. It flopped.
SophiaSan
hmm yeah that's true Utada kinda didnt make it big here..

and Bi? Like he held a concert here in American but only asian ppl went. T.T kinda sad

it's soo hard for asian artists to break out into the american scene sad.gif
nlgrl
any american artist who knew fluent japanese or korean would be successful if they went to that country o.o
bonbons
LOL i hate to say it but i think britney spears will ...
and backstreet boys...i mean,japan's still not over them yet >___>;;
SwtMsT
^Yeah, I was thinking Britney Spears b/c she seems popular over there.

Good Charlotte has an interest in Japanese. I know that Benji likes Japanese music and had a Japanese girlfriend and his crush was Ayumi Hamasaki.

They're already popular though. If you look at the box office, a lot of movies in ENGLISH are in the top 10.
Malice_Kaiser
Yep, I agree with what others said. A lot of American artists don't need to speak the language to get popular in Asian countries...

Dir en Grey is starting to get recognition here in the States. They've been touring with Korn and now they have an album and a few t-shirts being sold at Hot Topic. Hah hah. mellow.gif
GregoryHouseMD
I'm sure Vanilla Ice would ;]

Took the words right out of my mouth. American music is popular all around the world, since almost every country supports/promote it.
