Mega-Concert to Air on MTV Chi and Across MTV in Asia
San Gabriel Valley, California (September 6, 2006) MTV Chi and Charter today announced a groundbreaking concert special featuring 10 prominent artists to take place in the San Gabriel Valley September 23rd exclusively for Charter subscribers and to be aired on MTV Chi and across Asia on various MTV Channels. MTV Chi Rocks! with superstar headliners Jeff & Machi, Jin and Far East Movement to name a few marks the first ever concert of this magnitude celebrating young Chinese America. The star packed line-up will take the stage at San Gabriel Civic Auditorium Saturday, September 23rd at 7 PM (PT) and will be taped for a special to air in Q4 on MTV Chi and across MTV in Asia. MTV Chi caters to bicultural Chinese-Americans in the U.S. and can be found on Charter Digital Service channel 598. This unprecedented music extravaganza will give local Charter subscribers a true taste of MTV Chi.

JEFF & MACHI
Formerly known as LA Boyz, this popular Taiwanese hip hop group is well known for their mix of Taiwanese, English and Mandarin in their lyrics. Their debut album, Huang Li Cheng & Machi, released in March 2003, climbed international charts and broke platinum status within 6 months. Machi has helped start a wave of Asian American hip hop throughout Taiwan, China and Asia, and now in the U.S., spreading their culture into the mainstream.
JIN
This Chinese-American rap artist won the coveted first video spot with Learn Chinese on MTV Chis launch, a contest that generated over 500,000 online votes. Jins debut album, The Rest Is History (October 2004) reached the top 100 of the Billboard Top 200 albums chart, selling 26,000 copies in the first week. He is currently working on his Chinese language album debut, ABC to be released in Hong Kong.
FAR EAST MOVEMENT
Mixing hip hop, rock and alternative, this Asian American groups latest single Round Round was featured on The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift soundtrack which sold over 20,000 copies in its first week. Packing venues around the world, this male trio is quickly acquiring a devoted, international fan base.
PUTNAM HALL
From Irvine, California the band of three Lillard Anthony Wong on vocals and guitar, Kris Wismar on drums and Alfred Walters on Bass writes songs they know are relatable to their diverse audience. They recently joined the Warped Tour in Los Angeles, performing in front of thousands at Dodger Stadium.
KAILA YU
Based in LA, this R&B singer/songwriter is a triple threat: finding success as a musician, model and actress. Recently releasing her sophomore album Candy Coated Sugar Sex, Kaila has been compared to pop icons Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez, mixing catchy hooks, pithy lyrics and a seductive voice to complete the equation.
ADRIENNE LAU
Adrienne is a multitalented singer, songwriter and actress moving to the U.S. from Hong Kong at a young age. Her recent self-titled album features collaborations with R&B/hip hop artists such as Petey Pablo, Mya and Latino rap sensation R. Luna. Adrienne collaborated with fellow MTV Chi Rocks! performer Jin for her first single Hypnotic Love which featured celebrity boxer Mike Tyson in the video.
FREQUENCY5
A punk/pop group full of energy and originality based in Huntington Beach, California, Frequency5 prides themselves on the collaboration of five distinct sounds and influences. They write their own songs and believe their genuine love of music and performing will keep them in the limelight for the long run. Frequency5 performed to thousands in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in July.
BURNING TREE PROJECT
Hailing from Buena Park, Burning Tree Project is a tight circle of friends, brought together by a common interest in music and its very powerful effect on people. This power group focuses on rock with a punk edge.
SIRIS
This critically acclaimed American duo derived its name, Siris, from two Chinese words: sai and ri, meaning to surpass the sun. These Philadelphian brothers are best known as the only western band in the world performing and composing their own English and Chinese songs. They are the first Western group in history to record an original Chinese language album of their own and are preparing to release another Chinese language album some time this year.
VIENNA TENG
From San Francisco, Vienna Tengs mix of folk and pop has gained her critical acclaim in the U.S., opening performances for Joan Osborne and Shawn Colvin and appearing on the David Letterman show and CBS Saturday Early Show. Her third album, Through the Noise, was released in July.
