Meet Meredith Grey. She's a woman trying to lead a real life while doing a job that makes having a real life impossible.

Meredith is a first year surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital, the toughest surgical residency program west of Harvard. She and fellow first-year interns Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, George O'Malley and Alex Karev were students yesterday. Today they're doctors and, in a world where on the job training can be a matter of life and death, they're all juggling the ups and downs of their own personal lives.

The five interns struggle to form friendships in this most stressful and competitive atmosphere. Meredith's medical ambition is overshadowed by a troubling secret: Her mother, a noted pioneering surgeon, is struggling with a tragic and devastating illness. Cristina is a study in contradiction; highly competitive and driven, she eschews any favors in order to make it on her own. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens is the small-town girl who grew up dirt poor and, in spite of paying for her medical career by modeling, still struggles with her self-esteem. George O'Malley is the warm but insecure boy next door who always manages to do or say the wrong thing at the wrong time. In spite of his attraction to women, he's treated as "just one of the girls." And Alex Karev, the intern the other interns love to have, masks his working class roots with arrogance and ambition.

The interns are guided by an established team of doctors who are determined to shape them into skilled surgeons or break them: Miranda Bailey, a senior resident responsible for training them, is so tough that she's nicknamed "The Nazi." Derek Shepherd is the flirtatious but very capable surgeon who shares a forbidden but undeniable sexual attraction with Meredith. Preston Burke's arrogance is second only to his skill with a scalpel. Overseeing them all is Dr. Richard Webber, Seattle Grace's paternal, but no-nonsense chief of surgery.

Grey's Anatomy focuses on young people struggling to be doctors and doctors struggling to stay human. It's the drama and intensity of medical training mixed with the funny, sexy, painful lives of interns who are about to discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head

As Meredith and Cristina discuss their relationship woes at the Emerald City Bar, their session of lamenting is interrupted when Joe, the bartender, collapses. And as Chief Webber recovers from brain surgery, he appoints one surgeon as interim chief - much to the dismay of another surgeon -- and he assigns George to report back with hospital gossip. While a devastated Meredith learns more about Derek and Addison's relationship, a confused Cristina tries to make decisions about her connection with Dr. Burke.

Enough is Enough

When a family arrives at Seattle Grace Hospital after a serious car accident, Alex learns that their injuries are only the beginning of their problems. Meanwhile, as Dr. Webber recovers from brain surgery, it seems that his wife (guest starring Loretta Devine as Mrs. Webber) has some concerns about the state of their marriage.

I can't fit for next weeks episode...supposedly its the one where Dr. Burke finds out that Dr. Yang is pregnant.

I love Grey's Anatomy...I've been an addict since it started showing in Australia. My favourite series on Aussie TV. I'm so pissed at the moment though...Adelaide decided to show the football instead of Grey's Anatomy for a week. Argh, what retards. >_<

I don't like Meredith though...I think she's okay, but I love the other characters more. ^^

I <3 the show. But was it just me or was last week's episode somewhat unsatisfying? Maybe it was because the season premier was so good that the second episode couldn't possibly live up to the same standard.

ugh, i can't wait for Cristina to reveal that she's pregnant. I didn't really care for George last season, but after the last episode I find him quite amusing.
There's something about Ellen Pompeo's face that looks too tight or stretched.. as if she got a facelift or something.. ehh, maybe it's just me.

AHH!! I feel really bad for Shepard! He's mad at his wife and then somehow got charmed back into her arms and kisses her, and then sees Meredith crying and she kisses him too! And then Christina loses the baby and Burke finds out and he never really had the chance to speak with her! I like Alex. He has this really annoyingly smartass look on him all the time, but he's really caring sometimes. It was so funny when Meredith said that Izzy likes him and then he started to blush!

GAH! Meredith's mother kissed George! That was so funny! I love George's character.

i think that's just TOO much hooking up and liking within that group. Plus, it will take away from Alex's "the bad boy you LOVE and LOVE to hate" thing. plus, i don't want to see him all sweet and gushy. i like the jerk alex.

ps. anyone else love the music on this show? i mean, the play Tegan and Sarah!! it's funny, cause my dad was watching it with me... and he made a face and said "why do they play all that music? i don't like it." i was thinking the music MAKES the show excellent. it's a perfect match.

but I disagree about the Izzie and Alex thing. It's true that the show would have a lot of hookups but i just LOVE them together! I actually really like his new character. It shows a more human side to him. No one can be mean and rude like that to everybody all the time. I mean, he's still a jerk, but now he's beginning to open up.

As Cristina tries to recover, she proves to be a very difficult patient, and a visit from her mother doesn't improve her demeanor any. And Meredith's mother, Dr. Ellis Grey, has the hospital staff running in circles. Jeremiah, a cystic fibrosis patient, could benefit from Dr. Addison Shepherd's medical knowledge, but her involvement in his surgery could delay her highly anticipated departure from Seattle Grace Hospital, leaving Meredith and Derek's relationship hanging in the balance.

i am absolutely in LOVE with this show! i love all the actors and actresses, and the plot is so good, i just love everything about this show.

my roommates and i watch this show religiously every week. its really funny cuz we're all premed in college and we pick out everything they do thats not right.

I felt so bad for Christina and Burke. I'm excited to hear their conversation in the next episode. Haha. The preview was so good cause of Christina's mom.

I'm so glued to this show every sunday, its like OMG Grey's anatomy is on tonite. Can't wait for next week's episode XD

last nite's episode was soooooooooo funny. i LOVE christina!!! she plays her character well.

it was hilarious when she wasn't staying in bed like she was suppose to. even funnier when she couldn't stop crying.

i love love love alex and izzie. but i have a feeling they might not work out, last night's episode, when he was going on the date, he seemed so out of it... maybe i didn't watch it clearly, but i HOPE HOPE they work out

^YES! Another Izzie and Alex lover! Woot! I hope they work out as well. They're so adorable when they bicker.

And the last episode was GREAT! Christina and her mom had me laughing throughout the entire episode. And Burke was so hot when he laid down next to her and held her.

Dr. Bailey was so awesome in this episode. Great acting. My heart went out to her and the cystic fibrosis patient. So incredibly sad... I almost cried!

i loved the end, it shows that she has some emotion , but it was incredibly sad . i remember when she told the interns to not get attached, i guess that's what happens when you get attached.

The last episode was pretty good! I LOVE George's character, he's soo funnny. I dont know his real name, but he is a very good actor.
I didnt really like the hook up between meredith's mother and the chief, i think there are just way too many hook ups, i feel that they need to create more in depth problems, rather then focus on relationship problems.
