REVIVED!
yes, i used the search options soompi has so kindly provided us and found this very lonely Australian music thread. and since a lot of people (yes 3 is considered a lot) wanted an Aussie music thread, HERE IT IS.

i shall start by complimenting covdy and saying Wolfmother are a kick-a$$ band and look & sound grouse live. i hope their follow-up album is just as good as their debut.

British Inida are becoming household names on Triple J (the BEST radio station for aussie music + no ads!). their song 'black and white radio' is really good and the bass player has a mad as quiff happening.

The Cops are another aussie band that are really good. they're more indie-rock/funk/electronica >> www.myspace.com/copsaustralia >> they play really catchy infectious pop tunes.

Bodyjar have been around for a l-o-n-g time (according to Wikipedia) and are pretty good. their song 'feeder' is good and was my first bodyjar song.

Operator Please are these teens from Queensland and they are just awesome. they've supported loads of well-known bands, which i am too tired to think of at the moment, but their Myspace should answer a lot of questions. their EP 'Cement Cement' was the best 5 bucks i've spent at JB.

Children Collide are also another up-and-coming aussie band and play some cool tunes like 'we are amphibious'. i like frogs.

Red Riders, a band from Sydney play some pretty catchy indie-pop songs and their album 'Replica Replica' is a great listen. they toured with The Living End and End of Fashion as well as Franz Ferdinand...so they must be good.

but i've been talking about new bands too much. let's give a round of applause to The Living End. the best aussie band around (though i may be a tad bit biased..). they are A-mazing live and Chirs Cheney is one bad-a$$ guitarist.

and check out The Drones as well. they've been played countless times on JJJ. and Jebediah have been around for a while, but their vocalist Kevin Mitchell (aka Bob Evans as many people know him by) has been touring around Oz with his album 'Suburban Songbook'. Jebediah have a really rawsome (raw and awesome) sound and just sound grouse.

yes, thats enough plugging of aussie bands from me so...please, share and discuss the phenomenon that is Aussie music! =]

(btw, you can find out more about these bands by searching them on Myspace)

The only good Aussie band around atm for me are Gyroscope. They've worked their arses off to get to where they are now. Good on 'em.

I liked Silverchair back in the day when they were all grungy and what not. I like a bit of Missy Higgins every now and then...dont flame me. XD
petit_charat
HOORAH FOR TRIPLE J! HOORAH FOR THE RESURRECTION OF THIS THREAD!

Gyroscope are pretty good.. their latest album that was featured on Triple J won me over. plus its been playing whenever those footy ads come on telly.

John Butler Trio are starting to annoy me because they are played EVERYwhere..it drives me nuts. how many more times can triple j play 'better than'?!?!

Flamingo Crash are definitely awesome! They play fun electro and quirky music
Firekites are another aussie band..sorta folk-pop..very mellow.
But yes, Triple J all the way! or Triple J Unearthed!!
dOotsiez
wow, didn't know an Aus music thread existed. Bump bump.

Love the John Butler Trio. The Waifs. And Sarah Blasko. No one has mentioned Nick Cave yet!

yay proud to be a nzder! <3
I think eskimo joe is nzder too.
dOotsiez
nah, Eskimo Joe's from Freemantle in Western Australia.
vividified

babiesburn
Silverchair is good, up through Diorama.
se7en
Eskimo Joe are definitely WA. One of my friends is a mad fan of them and she goes to every gig they hold.

Honourable mention

THE PRESETS

their not a band, sue me

The Presets song 'Are You The One' got made into a BMW ad.
ilikepho
the basics
gotye Learnalilgivinanlovin JTV gotye is 1/3 of the basics
the cat empire Sly
the living end
bob evans
british India
Antz
lol yeah i thought evermore were from NZ =_=

woot aussie bands! <3 i wanna listen to more aussie stuff.
i forgot which band but they played a mini-concert at my school last year. they were awes <3 i think they were from melbourne.
petit_charat
Teenagersintokyo - great electro band.. linda marligano from triple j's dools and linda is the bassist. fun stuff to dance to..

gotye is brilliant....wally..

the living end, hands down one of the most amazing aussie bands...they have so much energy when they play live. and chris cheney is one mean guitar player. how awesome is their new song 'how do we know?'. that guitar riff... thought it was led zep from the melbourne 'burbs... cannot wait for their new album 'white noise'.

british india - the video for 'tie up my hands' filmed in front of flinders street station..so great. their album is quite good too..GUILLOTINE! GUILLOTINE! GUILLOTINE!

The Presets are pretty much taking australia and the rest of the world by strom. their songs are appearing everywhere (as they should be). electro is beginning to get bigger and better as the year wears on...
TygrrLilly
The Aussie bands that I listen to are:

ACDC
Silverchair (though their recent stuff really didn't take with me- honestly. I'm a big fan of their old stuff)
Wolfmother
bodyjar (though its been forever since I've listened to them- I used to like them a lot)
Jet

I guess I should count John Butler Trio and The Presets even though I've only heard about one song a piece and didn't know they were Australian until I came into this thread.
beautifulxmess
Oh wow, didn't know an Oz rock thread existed! yay for oz rock! I seriously think the australian rock scene over the last few years up till now is in a very impressive state. I use to listen to heaps of british and american rock and discovered I didn't need to search far for good music because australia had their own crop of rock artists that were bloody good themselves.

a few more artists to add:

end of fashion - went to their gig last night and they were rocking it.
sparkadia - triple J loves them. and they're starting to get into mainstream radio stations too, good on them!
sam sparrow - duno how he's doing here but he's getting alot of deserved buzz over at UK.
yves klein blue - oz's own version of arctic monkeys. if noone told me they were from brisbane, i would have thought they came from england!
kate miller heidke - amazing songstress. very theatical and oozes with stage charisma.
the seabellies - their music has this orchestral feel about it, they are phenomenal live!
the getaway plan - they were on rove last week I think? Wasn't a good performance but overall, great melodic tunes!
george - a.w.e.s.o.m.e.ness. katie noonan's vocals can't be rivalled. don't need to say more.
gin wigmore (well...technically she's nzlander but she's based here, and she's such a talent, i wish she was australian, lol) - my latest musical discovery and obsession. She sounds the like love child Macy Gray and Adele, ahaha
black rythmn market co.
petit_charat
WOW, how was the end of fashion gig? i'm interested to know what their new album will sound like..

ooo, yves klein blue! their song 'polka' is just so catchy... for a minute when i heard it i thought it was a little 'dirty pretty things' like... but they're still awesome!

Birds of Tokyo anyone? grrrreat band. the lead singer is from Karnivool, who are also another great alternative band. Birds of Tokyo's debut album 'Day One' is just amazing from the first track to the end. a must-have for any aussie rock lover!

The Boat People - 'awkward orchid orchard' is a song that has been in my head for dayyyys now! www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCDaLsJQ9XE
aussie indie pop at its best!

beautifulxmess
The band themselves were pretty good actually but the overall energy of the room was a bit 'ehhh'...lol...not the bands fault, it was just the dead crowd, hahaa
Anyway, they played perhaps 2-3 tracks from their new stuff which has the similar catchy tunes of the first album. There's this one track called 'kamikaze' that u can probably check on their myspace. I'm pretty sure that's going to be the first single release for the new album. very catchy and radio friendly.

I know hey!! I am really digging the stuff Yves Klein Blue puts out and no doubt they're an awesome band but the fact they sound toooo close to all of these brit indie bands (and i swear they're wearing on a brit accent in their songs) kinda makes me a bit well...i duno mellow.gif . U know what I mean? It's just strange to seem them so 'british' when well- they're aussie. But I'll be paying close attention to them nevertheless coz i do enjoy their music. Have their songs on dangerous amounts of rotation atm, ahah.

YES! *jumps up and down* Though i must admit I'm a bit more of karnivool fan, just recently realised the lead singer was in Birds of Tokyo too so started checking a few songs from them and I like what i'm hearing so far! They're a bit softer and more melodic right? good stuff.

Oo...thanks for the recommendation! leme check them out..*scurries off*
kkkkk
Nice thread. I find that Australian bands have very wicked cool names. I'll definitely give some of the listed recommendations a try.

I like what i've heard of british india so far. Yay.
