I think Lady Sovereign has great talent, and she's so tiny and cute. LOL Her songs are really catchy and hard to get out of your head, though it took awhile for her music to grow onto me.

Hmm, if u got to hear any other british female MC's you'd hear the sound that Sovereign ripped off various artists. she is not original, she only started mcing a couple of years ago. Also in england 19 is not young. we leave school at 16 and are adults by then.

Also the reason why she is gimmicky simply is because she is white, short and cute. believe it or not. if you were to study the UK grime scene (thats where shes supposedly from) she isnt respected at all, shes not hated on, just not respected because she wouldnt participate in any clashes or do any freestyles or really participate in the underground scene-i mean she used to move with a few crews around my area but as soon as she got recognition she left them behind-(although there is nothing wrong with moving forward). Compared to the vast amount of talent we have in the UK, for instance lady fury, even shystie although she is annoying- is better than her but because they didnt fit this perfect little mould that sovereign did they werent allowed to move forward. so from that ppl just saw it as a slap in the face. and In the UK race does play a big factor when it comes to music. if u think im joking look up artists like kano, so solid. and then see how artists like Plan B, and skinnyman are NOT promoted even though they are some of the sickest lyricists and MC's out there. The dislike people have for her here is shown in her non-sucess over here. The english hate her.

Hey, this magazine had this article about how female rappers aren't getting as many sales or recognition as they used to just a few years back. And it got me thinking, why is that? But if Lady Sovereign makes it big you know, I hope it does that flip reverse thing. I'm not too big of a hip-hop/rap fan anymore, but I mean...even in the rap industry there needs to be more girl power. LOL

When I first heard her, and saw her MV - I wasn't really into it. But, it grew on me after a while. Her music is humorous, real, and in your face - which is awesome. She breaks out of the regular mold of what women or girls are in the music industry - all pretty and singing lyrics of love or wtv. Her style's unique; she's the type of artist that you either love or hate.

Alright so, about a week ago on Saturday the 28th of October, I saw Lady Sovereign in concert in D.C. at the 9:30 club. I bought the tickets for me and my girl to go see it back in september. I won't lie, I was worried it would be an MTV type show and all. But before I say how her performance was, let me go through the night.

Doors opened at 5:30PM, we ended up getting there by 4:30 after trying to find the damn club for 15 to 20 min. Well, we finally got in and found a good spot on the balcony where we couldf actually sit down. After having a beer, the opening act came on, which was some group called Young Love. They weren't bad, but not great either. I picked up their EP just for the hell of it tho. During their show, I got another beer for me, a sode for my girl and a couple Roast beef wraps to eat. trying to pick out something to eat was a pain, as this place was definately liberal... LOL. How do I know? Half the menu was freaking vegan crap, if not more.

Anyway, after Young Love finished, we waited for about 30 minutes until Sov performed. During that time, she was peering out the Judging Booth pouring water or beer on people, couldn't tell. it's now 7:45 and the DJ is out on the stage bumping some tight intro music to the concert. The crowd is ready and going nuts in front of the stage and the balcony where we were. Finally Sov comes out and it's loud as hell.

She starts off the show with her song "Ching Ching" from her Vertically Callenged EP. The energy is incredible. After the song, she talks to us and shouts out D.C. Then she brings up George W.... and I get worried. Knowing the brain washing MTV does and most of the media in general I knew the boos were coming, and so they did. Well she gave both sides a chance to cheer or Boo for Bush. After 90% of the place booed, the other 10%, including me and my girl cheered. I got some nasty looks, but oh well. Screw 'em! right?

Alright, on to the rest of the concert. She performed pretty much every song she's recorded and spent over 1 hour on stage. Things she did between songs was bring some guy whow as wearing a banana costume on stage and dropped kicked him. After that she threw a water bottle at him. She poured some beer on people in the front of the stage and even implied she would take her shirt off, but she never did. lol. After her set, she left the stage and it got thunderous. Everyone was chanting S. O. V.!!!! S.O.V.!!! She came out and performed one final song, "Public Warning" and the crowd got crazy! We left right as she was finishing the song to beat the crowd, and boy did we ever just make it in time. As soon as we hit the sidewalk, the people started pouring out.

Well I must say, the concert exceeded expectations. It was raw and gritty and instead of just using instrumentals, she had a DJ, drummer and guitar player on stage to do a true live show. She is an extremely talented artist that showed me she deserves success. Bought myself and my girl each a hoodie of hers and myself a t-shirt also. I can't wait for the next time she comes back into town, cuz I will shell out the money again.

Everyone who has the chance should see her in person.

As stated before, Lady Sovereign is pretty much hated around England (Or London, for that matter).
It seems to me that, she tries to be a Chav-rapper, which people in London hate, seeing as white people aren't seen as rappers in my area. She also gives me an impression that she is trying to be 'Rude' but it doesn't seem to work for her. And Her music seems very stupid, seeing as I doubt she really works '9 to 5'.

I like Public Warning better than Vertically Challeneged, but I still liked the remixes.
